Charlton Only - January 2022 Transfer Rumours (Deadline Day p.97)

After last nights showing by his replacement I would be searching for a back-up for Dobson as a priority. Genuinely believe that if we lost Dobson for a period of time we would be bang in trouble.7

I feel like we've got the basis of a decent squad for next year, but not first team, if you know what I mean? Having the likes of Purrington, Clare, Gilbey, DJ, Lavelle, Burstow as versatile bench options would be good for a promotion chasing team. But we would need at least 6 *very good* first team additions to really challenge I reckon. Priority would be two elite-level (for league one) wingbacks. Then a Cullen-style midfield dynamo that can take hold of games and make the team tick. An 'attacking' central midfielder that can run at defences and actually has an end product, which may or may not be Browne, but sadly I don't think is Lee, who I would let go. I'd try and replace Famewo with a left-sided CB that is more comfortable with the ball. Finally, seeing as we have Chuks, Stockley and Burstow signed up for the next year at least, I'd let Washington go, with a heavy heart, and push the boat out for a stand-out striker with pace to get in behind. Wishful thinking, maybe, but I think that's the way to make this formation work.5

Does anyone know when Watson's year is up?0

Just checked the article that confirmed his renewal, and cant see the mention of another option either.
Be very surprised if he doesn't decide to retire this year.0 -

The manager wouldn't have had much bearing on the recruitment as they didn't do any of it.0 -

The player who was standing out every week for Crewe hasn’t just disappeared. He’s barely had a chance under Jackson, and when he has it’s come out of position. And under Adkins, everyone was awful, even Dobson, Clare etc. who we’ve all been raving about for the past few months.
Not a coincidence he’s going to a team in the league above. We’ll regret this decision in the future if he’s goes for good.30 -

A) He has been garbage when he has got minutes.
B ) He is off the pace in training and giving both managers no indication that he will compete in a first team game.
C) Both A and B are correct.8 -

They had a similar deal with Crewe for him, but seems they've sent him back in January (think because of injury concerns) - The Crewe commentators, when we played them, were suggesting that Blackpool were going to try and do another deal, but for less than originally agreed.
If they then do the same with Kirk, we can potentially tell them no.0 -
Kirk is just a case of going through the ranks at Crewe with his mates and having a good time.
He hasn't got the stomach for the step up or being away from his comfort zone.
I suspect this loan move will fail and he'll be our player next season before being sold on the cheap, probably back to Crewe.1 -

Disappointed with the Kirk news , don't think he's had a fair chance . Maybe a move back closer to home is for the best for him personally, get some minutes and see where things are in the summer.10

I want to know who was so insistent that we signed him in the first place.6

Yeah I think it's a mixture of the very sad personal news he had just before signing and being a player that's very much meant for one system and one style of play. Obviously was someone Gallen had tracked for a while and was keen to get in.
Think it's for the best for both parties that this happens, we free up the squad space to add a player that fits what Jacko wants , and Kirk goes and plays regularly at Blackpool , renewing his partnership with Owen Dale.0 -

Without an overlapping player he is totally predictable in that he will want to cut in onto his right foot, which makes him a doddle to mark.
I have not seen this five at the back of which you speak, but Kirk can’t play as a wing back because he does not know how to tackle or how to defend.6 -

Looked like a fish out of water on the couple of occasions I've seen him. Sometimes the big smoke just don't cut it for dyed in the wool northerners.0 -
