1st unsuccessful one - 10 runs
2nd unsuccessful one - 15 runs
Etc etc.
I think we all agree that we would have lost the famous Headingley Test in 2019 if Australia still had a review left when Stokes was hit in front when we needed just 2 more to win. The whole point of DRS (like VAR) is to correct bad decisions.....not to give batsmen a 2nd chance.1 -
Will England last the day?0

We're not very good are we?? As soon as we face a wicket that's doing a bit, we fall apart.
I fear a tough few years ahead for English cricket beckons as there doesn't seem to be much coming through the county system either0 -
53-6

I'll take a punt and say England to win.5 -

Great performance by Leach and Mahmood.5
-
204 all out
Leach 41* (141)
Mahmood 49 (118)
It was like the old times when the tail usually wagged:
Top 7 - 55 in total
Bottom 4 - 129 in total
Partnership of 90 between Leach and Mahmood
And 89.4 overs bowled in the say too1 -

The only other time that numbers 10 and 11 have top scored in a Test match innings was in 18854

Honestly a shocking performance with the bat. It was all very predictable as soon as Root was caught behind. If he gets a low score, the team tends to crumble around him.0

Bit harsh on Mahmood and Leach who I thought batted superbly today, it could have easily been 100 all out. 204 is undoubtedly sub par, but 100 would have been game over.
Be interesting to see how WI approach batting tomorrow, knowing that it seems to be all about seeing out the new ball - if they lose a few early on then all of a sudden 204 doesn't necessarily look so bad.0 -
Watch the first half of the day when England collapse. Miss the second half when the tail rescue us!0

Can't see us getting them all out for under 300. Our bowlers aren't good enough. Stokes is probably the best but Overton & Woakes are average at best.0

Mahmood's 49 was the equal 3rd highest score for a number 11 for England in the history of Test cricket - he is joint 3rd with Andrew Caddick (49* v Australia in 2001) and behind John Snow (59* v West Indies in 1966) and of course Jimmy Anderson's 81 v India in 2014. That was also Mahmood's top score in any form of the pro game.
It is a testament to the fact that we no longer have that many players that do not know one end of the bat from the other (Parkinson might be one of them with a top score of 21* from 64 professional innings) that 5 of the top 8 scores for a number 11 have taken place in the last 21 years. One of the others was William Attewell with 43* against Australia - in 1892 - which would have stood as a record for 74 years until Snow's 59* in 1966.2
