Denly turns down a two off the last ball of the 17th over so he doesn't have to face

We need 20 an over and get 5 singles off the 18th

Denly batting for the benefit of Joe Denly, not Kent CCC.

    We didn't get bowled out!

    That's cause for celebration ...

... because most if the rest if the match was painful to watch.

It's raining now. Can we get the match retrospectively called off?

    What can I say ?

The result was never in doubt, not even before the toss IMHO.

There was a short period during Surrey's innings when I felt our bowlers were improving on their previous performances this season & was pleased for Grant Stewart in particular.

However, it was always going to need heroics from our batters to get close to 161 and of course, disappointment after disappointment put paid to any lingering hopes....

Oh well, I'm glad we're not driving home tonight with heavy hearts. Cowardly, I admit but there's only so much you can take.

Well done to those who did attend & safe journey home.

Following a slow start at Durham with 14 in 3 innings, Ollie Robinson has hit 91 off 57 balls, batting at 3, in his last 2 games. Time to recall him?

But who would you drop for him?

We are the only County not to win a game this season in either competition and if we include the match against the SL Dev XI that's from 12 games in total.

    I’d suggest all of them.

Well there's one opener with 53 in 5 innings and another that is averaging 23 off 22 balls a game and hasn't hit a 50 in any form of the game in a year. Cox could open for one of them and Robinson bat at 3, a position he has been occupying at Durham.

Amazingly we're not last in the Southern Blast table, as Hampshire have somehow managed to have an even worse NRR  :D

As coaches and captains always say in interviews after a bad defeat "you've got to take the positives"

Denly .  He’s not bowling and isn’t the future . I’d be giving O Riordan a go somewhere too . We are out already - nothing left to play for.

Went last night. Thought we bowled pretty well, not as many sloppy overs as in the last few games but the batting just seemed completely directionless. We seemed happy going along at a run a ball  - if your opening batsman is there pretty much to the conclusion then you should not be losing by such a large margin.

Our batters seemed to show a complete lack of awareness of how the field was set up.

6th game I've been to this season and not seen a win - hopefully tomorrow isn't rained off and we can finally get a win on the board!

At the time I wasn't sure how good the Surrey score was, as clearly it wasn't a high scoring pitch, but the Kent innings was anaemic.

As a complete novice, I never understand why batsmen hammer the ball to the boundary fielders for a single, when if you hit it more gently, you create the chance of running 2s.

Back again today, hopefully a positive result in the England game will finally lead to a win from Kent.

    Denly opens the batting again

Trouble is that he's now cemented his place for the rest of the season by virtue of being almost our top run scorer in the comp albeit at a snail's pace!

The definition of madness - doing the same thing over and over again in the hope that the outcome will be something different. In our case it is picking the same XI.

fact is that the richer, more 'urban' counties with big county grounds can afford to sign better players than can Kent

But we won this comp with virtually the same side. We've lost all five this season.

DBD out 2nd ball - his scores this season in the Blast have been 12, 31, 0, 7, 3 & 0. Average 8.83 from six innings.
