My only criticism of Garner, is why the fuck did he want McGrandles when we had Forster-Caskey, we even had Alex Gilbey as an option - Given the nature of nearly all our signings, you're not telling me that he didnt have a say into who we signed!!

The handling of the whole Forster-Caskey saga has been an absolute mess, I agree, but if we were working to such a tight budget - Conor is the type of player you sign, if you've got room left in the budget, not as our second incoming.4 -
Thought the Ipswich game might have been a turning point for the season but unfortunately not the case. Understand we have injuries but we're just not good enough this season to be anything other than mid table2

The main reason we couldn't have the turnover of player we would have liked is because no one wants our deadwood on the wages they are on. That is the hangover from the previous two failures under NA and JJ.0 -

Looks like I picked the wrong day to shell out a tenner for the live feed, my first ever on a Saturday. We were just so poor all round, but Garner did say beforehand that we'd had a good weeks preparation, so more fool me and I shoulda known better, I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I shoulda known better!0

On the train home. Well, that performance was absolutely shocking. Only Sess came away with any credit in my book. What's the point of Stockley. If he just stood up and fought for a ball rather than just fall over that would be a start. I would rather have anybody else, I don't care who. The rest of them just didn't look interested or capable of turning the game around. I don't think we had a single decent passage of play for the whole game. I expect the players marks will make interesting reading. I hope everyone gets home safely.6

Garner needs a plan B, (which involves aggression & a much more direct approach) every game it's Innis to Lavelle to Innis to Clare to Lavelle to Innis to Sessegnon to Lavelle to Dobson to Innis to hoof up to whoever is marking Stockley.....this methodical, keep ball stuff might work for Liverpool or Real Madrid but at Vale Park on a blustery Saturday in November, it's boring, dull, rubbish. Yes - we usually go a bit more direct in the 85th minute now but that's because we are desperately chasing a game in which we failed to make any kind of mark on.
That Icelandic guy the other week inadvertently perfectly summed up our style of play the other week, the big build-up & then fell flat on his arse with horrible execution of a basic skill.

Whilst what Garner says is correct it doesn't help anyone coming out with some of the stuff he has come out with this season. A lot of it just feels like he is trying to protect his reputation if things go wrong, and dare I say it, like he's just making excuses.Cafc43v3r said:

Many of the players aren't good enough, however you don't need to be a good manager to identify that. We can all see it.
A good manager however works with what they have until an opportunity comes up to get someone/something better. It seems pretty clear we are not going to be pulling up trees in the January window and what Garner has he is going to have to work with, yet he doesn't strike me as someone enjoying his job and that is only going to rub off negatively on the players he does have at his disposal. Is there anyone out there who thinks he is motivating this squad of players currently?
Garner deserves time like all managers, however some of the performances this season have been absolutely woeful regardless of the quality/lack of quality in this squad. This season alone we have had at least 3-4 matches which rank as some of the worst I have ever seen as a Charlton fan, today included.
I don't think many people think this is a squad that's going to get promoted this season without some serious investment, but there is no excuse for performances like today.

I was all upbeat when we appointed Garner as we were told we would be playing an attacking game.
Well fuck me, if that is attacking then I hate to see a defensive backs to the wall game.
The first time we tested their keeper was on 89 mins. 89 fucking mins.
I like Garner but this pass pass pass pass pass pass hoof game is getting us nowhere. The only time we look dangerous is in the last 10-15 mins, usually when Aneke, Payne and other subs have been thrown on & we go more direct.
I've never thought much of Stockley & I'm afraid he is living up to my expectations. To be the main striker, play 19 games & only have 2 goals is just dreadful. And is not that he isnt scoring, it's that he never looks like scoring or even getting anywhere near the ball.
I wont go into my solutions to it all as I just get shouted down. So I'll just say that if you always do what you've always done you'll always get what you've always got.
The light at the end of the tunnel....sorry, there isnt one. We wont be spending in January & we might bring in a loan or two. Even having Leaburn back in a few weeks will only paper over the cracks.

Bring the strikers in from the u21s/u18s, let them find their feet and give them a run in the side. I watched Paul Walsh as a kid, from memory can't remember who the manager was? Andy Nelson? within weeks he was up and running. Playing stockley with the kids does not work! To me Stockley has to come out of the side!
Defensively get rid Innis & Lavelle, I would rather have DEJI and NESS which has the potential and you wont have problem with mobility or pace and they would not back of and watch one opposition player take on 3 of ours and put the ball in the net.
Someone said earlier Derby were in dure straights with Nothing and only 5 players signed, we should have done the same and got rid of the rubbish who were clearly not up for It0 -
No doubt Garner could do slightly better with what he’s got but I’m glad he’s coming out and saying these things. He’s literally the only person who has a voice here.2

They may have lost more games than us, but they've also drawn less
So teams like this must be doing something right, else they wouldn't be above us in the League... Maybe if we were a bit more organised ourselves at times, and didnt have players being attracted to the ball, like flies to shit, then we'd leave less space to be exploited.
There is using the ball, and then there is passing it around your defence before an aimless long ball forward
No doubt 80% of the league play the way they do, because they can only dream of the budget that we've still got to play with - So have to think up different ways to ensure they get a result, and ensure they dont get slaughtered every week... Seems it works19
