There could be lots of reasons.1 -

but each and everyone of these shithouse footballers who are and have been a massive part of the most embarrassing shit stained period in Charlton Athletics footballing history get my full support in the ground when it matters and it still doesnt help them, we are shit and they are shit .
I know some may only like positive shit, in spite of next season being our tenth of 15 in the third tier .... I had seen 1 season in my first 30+ seasons following us in the third tier before these pathetic times ..... but on here i think it's more than fair that we can call players out for being carthorse crap if that's how we feel but of course in the ground getting behind them is the sensible thing .
Although Booooooing may help , who knows1 -

Kane is right footed, Edun a lefty. Gives proper cover in both those positions. Plus Kane can cover/fill in as a CB too.6 -

And if it doesn't work, then he's got his Charlton contract to come back to.
I can see this move making sense to him.

Also, I can confidently say he will score more than the 2 goals Stockley has in League 1 so far this season.5 -

Just don't see enough of an incentive for him in this potential move versus staying put. But who knows - not me!0 -

Amazing we have a director of statistically analysis and yet we sign players who haven’t played any games. What stats are being evaluated?16

Edun, Kane, Bonne + Marriott/Wickham i'd be very happy. Not sure we need much more other than maybe another holding midfielder3

But lets get realistic - unless we are paying to wages, this is the pond we are fishing in!
Anyway he did better than anyone expected for a player bought to develop as he was thrust in the deep end.

2 extra strikers and an extra center back give you the option of playing 352 as well and counters the Aneke problem.
Even excluding Aneke it was criminal to go into the season with 1 senior striker. Leaburn has, almost single handedly, kept us out of the brown stuff.9 -
Bonne actually started the post-Championship season pretty well. I recall a cracking goal away to Swindon in the strange (played on a Saturday) EFL Cup game.3

Let’s not forget that he got most of his goals for us were prior to our squad being crippled with injuries.
He was fresh out of non league.
Not really sure why it didn’t work out at QPR, personality, formation? At Ipswich he was part of an underperforming squad but still turned in 12 goals.
Fraser was with him and clearly didn’t fit. Maybe he will come to us and improve in the same way Fraser is now.
Let’s not shoot him down before he’s kicked a ball.21 -

I tend to think that this concern about loan rather than perm is overblown. The last few players we paid money for ie DJ, KIrk, Schwartz and Stockley have been relatively disappointing. Stockley not as bad as the others. We have had some great loan players like Bielik, Cullen, Millar , Gallagher, Da Silva, Maatsen and Rak Saki. I think if I was Thomas I would try and utilise the free and loan market almost exclusively too. It makes sound business sense and reduces losses. The key is having a balance and how the manager motivates them. Sessegnon works just as hard as the contracted payers.
I think the criticism of Bonne is OTT. He was OK, he definitely knows where the goal is and his success or not will be as much down to what system he plays in and how Holden manages him. The worry would be that they ship out Stockley at the same time and don't replace him because Bonne is the Washington/ Davison replacement , not the Stockley replacement.3 -

For Stockley it probably makes sense, Gillingham have money and it is maybe his last chance at a decent contract.1 -

I don't think it's realistic to have 4 wingers and 4 strikers. You could start 3 and have to leave out 5. If we consider 352, it's a formation where we're likely to leave out all wingers.
I guess one solution is to go with only 3 wingers and 4 strikers, with Leaburn as an option as a RW given he's played there a few times or even Payne.0 -
Must have been on the Larkfield coach to take that long.17

Mullin is playing at NL level for Wrexham and is certainly a lot higher ability wise.2 -

But lets get realistic - unless we are paying to wages, this is the pond we are fishing in!Well yeah, he's a striker. He probably could have had 25 goals if he scored absolutely every chance and half chance that came his way, but if he did that he'd be Erling Haaland and we wouldn't have had him playing for us. The standard people hold Bonne to is insane, there can't be many players who generate this level of irrational hatred. If Bonne had put away some more of his chances then yes, we might have stayed up, but the only reason we were in the conversation was because of the 11 goals he did score after being brought in as a backup from non-league. No-one else scored in that team. Taylor did when he wasn't crippled or scared of being crippled and Gallagher put some away but they weren't there at the end. Here's a fact about Bonne I hadn't realised; not counting this half season where he hasn't really played and isn't complete yet, in his last 5 seasons Bonne has been his club's league top scorer in 4 of them. In two of those he was joint top scorer. He wasn't good for QPR inbetween, but Ipswich signed 25 players last season and used 5 different strikers (including Joe Pigott who was CL transfer darling for a while) and they didn't get more goals out of anyone. Wes Burns equalled him in the league and also scored one in the FA Cup, which Bonne couldn't manage, the big clown. Bonne scores goals. We need goals. We don't have to like him but on paper he's a player we'd be excited about if we hadn't seen him before and decided we hate him (despite him being our top scorer the one year he was here)13 -

I always liked Bonne when he was here, I look forward to seeing an alternative to Stockley & Leaburn.8
