I think that the likes of current and former England batsmen, Rory Burns and Ollie Pope, had rather hoped that there was no play at The Oval. Michael Atherton described the Lancs opening attack as the slowest that he has seen for the County and the fact that Surrey are 57-3 says all we need to know about how helpful conditions are to military medium bowlers. Moving forward we will have to find a way of introducing that 4th front line bowler. We got away with it in these conditions and the three bowlers mentioned picking up all bar one of the wickets (Evison's wicket was a leg stump half volley clipped to Compton at midwicket). Whether that is Linde or another seamer we cannot hope to succeed with this attack in less seam friendly conditions especially with the 41 year old Hogan was going at 5 an over.Addick Addict said:So Gilchrist is injured for the game starting tomorrow.
