Lap of Dishonour

Well it’s the final home game and time for the annual discussion on the players taking plaudits from the crowd for their efforts this season.
How sad that we should even be discussing this.
I am torn, will probably stay as there are a few that really deserve our thanks but could feel quite awkward.

If they have any sense they'll do it straight after the final whistle otherwise the place will be empty8

Sounds like some kind of Klingon ceremony.5

Perhaps those who have attended every game should run round the pitch while the players go into the stands and clap them.46

Boooooo!5

If we’re expected to wait whilst the players fart arse around gathering their entourages then no.
If the players simply run to face each stand as a group immediately after shaking the hands of the officials and opponents, and clap each stand for half a minute and then bogging off to whatever it would seem more appropriate.8 -
Don't Ness, Leaburn, AMB, Campbell etc deserve some credit ? What about Rak Sakyi our top scoring Loan player ?
The rest are Journeyman pro footballers who can earn a decent living despite playing in the 3rd tier.
Dobson despite some below par performance of late deserves our respect.
Hector as well, who again has been decent despite a couple of poor performances recently.
We need some better and fitter players to emulate Ipswich, Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton next season over 46 games; easier said than done with many players now preferring to be a squad player in the Championship rather than a regular starter in the 3rd tier.
We have had Burnley, Bournemouth and Hull celebrating at the Valley at our last home game over the years and a low key game against Port Vale in front of a small crowd really does sum up our season BUT at least no League 2.
Lap of mediocrity but no walk of shame as most are League 1 players who have found their level.

There will be young kids and family members present with the players if they do the usual type thing. Not really fair to boo them too, unless I'm missing something.5

How about the players come back out the tunnel one at a time, if the booing is louder than the clapping then Big Brian Cole stops that player and they do the walk of shame back down the tunnel. It will be democracy in action and it may be lonely for Ness and Rak Sakyi on their walk but that is show business.12 -
only reason I’m going is so I can boo the players off the pitch one last time.16

They can do what they want, although I always think it a little cringe celebrating mediocrity.
In my opinion none of the playing or coaching staff deserve a round of applause, I think the bang average players have looked decent because of the shockers we have in the squad.
Maybe a round of applause before the start of the game when there is at least some crowd there. Either way I will be giving it a miss.

Those that do deserve a round of applause are the dedicated staff who work behind the scenes, the likes of Tracey, Ravi who sadly is moving on and all the others too numerous to mention.
How about the club organises that we get a chance to recognise their efforts, the players could even form a guard of honour for them.4 -
Isn't it usually spun up with some piffle about it being the players' opportunity to thank us for our support all season?
Won't make a jot of difference, the stands will be 2/3 empty before kick off and 9/10 empty within 5 minutes of the final whistle.
If any of the staff want the ego boost of seeing bods applauding them, they're gonna have to sprint around like Keely Hodgkinson to see more than a few people's backs.
There's been a lot of dross in the squad this term but there's been far more than our fair share of shitty performances too - applauding that is perverse.0 -
I wonder if Thomas / our new owner will be parachuting in with the red arrows, serenading us with a rendition of Valley Floyd road on electric guitar. 🪂 🎸6

They should really announce who is being retained just ahead of the last home game so we know who we can boo without any amount of awkwardness next season. Ideally Holden's entire selling strategy would be great, I'm not going to boo Clare if he'll be here next season, I'll feel like an arsehole. Is Leaburn leaving? Do I turn on him? Can I yell abuse at some of the loans knowing there's a chance we might make them permanent next season? It's a real minefield.

It's a shame there can't be two laps of honour, one for the players (who I would applaud because it's not their fault that the majority aren't good enough), and one for the Sandgaards. Now that'd be interesting.2
-
I'll probably be on the A2 by the time they decide to show, long way to go home and sure they can survive without my contribution...Can't think that they want to be there anyway...🤷♂️0

They'll probably fuck it up and let the opposition slip through for a lap of honour!12

Imagine the appetite for it from the fans’ side will largely be dictated by how the game itself goes on the day.Fans are fickle after all.2

The history makers
no Charlton team has managed to be shit enough to last more than 3 seasons in the third tier since our first relegation in to it ….
well done all of you , now fuck off6 -
I lost interest in the end of season lap of honour when the kids/wags/other hangers on started accompanying the players, the walk around the pitch moved further away from the touchlines & waves/claps became half-hearted from some players.More of the same no doubt on Saturday, but as I won’t be there I don’t care if their grannies & pets accompany them.6
-
Won't be hanging around long enough to clap or boo. Think those that stay should stand in silence with their backs to the pitch. Been a shit show of a season. Alternatively just send round AMB, Ness, Leaburn, Rak Saki, Campbell and I'll stay and clap them. The rest can do one.5
