It's 31 years ago today when the Valley Party stood in the local elections in Greenwich, how many of the candidates are still around today?

I stood in Avery Hill ward. Several others on here who will be familiar to everyone, stood in the borough.
What an outstanding team effort it was. Even in my ward, which wasn't a huge target since it was liberal held, I had fantastic help from fellow supporters.
Plus the management and the PR behind the campaign was simply first class.
Thank you to everyone who did their bit. You played your part in shaping the history of our great club.

I was a candidate in St Nicholas ward, Plumstead, a memorable day & evening, followed by a trip to Old Trafford.20

I was an organiser, co-ordinator, election leaflet distributor, teller, driver and election scrutineer. Nearly every spare hour leading up to it was devoted to the Valley Party, and the 3rd itself was one of the longest, most tiring, enjoyable and exilharating days of my life. I was on the go from 7AM until about 3AM the following morning and loved every minute. What a great team we were. Here's a toast to those no longer with us... 🍻🥂🥃32

I was a candidate in Glyndon ward, Plumstead. Thankful to an army of friends and family for their help in making it possible (some of whom are sadly no longer with us) and to the Valley party machine that supported all of the candidates. Special thanks to @Hartleypete who came close to having to go home and explain to his wife how he had managed to lose one of kids in a block of flats during one leaflet drop!3rd May itself was a long and memorable day finished off at the count at the Woolwich town hall, then blagging our way into the Labour party celebrations at Flamingo's next door, before being chucked out in the early of the morning singing "Back to the Valley" as we went.........happy days.

I was there in the Chamber that night - fantastic achievement. Part of the VP but couldn't stand as I lived/worked outside the Borough. To think we did all that without todays Social Media! The Ad campaign was truly a touch of genius. And well done the Voice too. And of course to everyone else involved and all those who voted too.

I was a candidate in Charlton, due to having to work I was not able to go to the count at Woolwich Town Hall in the evening, but it was a great time to be a Charlton supporter.

I was helping David Fox deliver leaflets in one of the Avery Hill wards. A boiling hot day, if I remember rightly. The Labour Party candidate was driving round the streets with a megaphone strapped to the roof rack of his car telling people not to vote for the Valley Party. Think we made a bit of an impact that day. It was a shame there wasn’t smart phones in those days. Plenty of opportunities to have a picture taken holding a baby 🤣🤣 ... What brilliant memories. Was just too young to stand, so played my part in every other way I could supporting candidates, particularly in Eltham. Was there in Woolwich Town Hall on the night of the election and just the one fcuk up which made a press photo. The following day/day after my Mum asked why everybody was holding up ‘YES’ Charlton signs, while I was holding up a ‘NO’? WTF I thought, but yes, she was right, having run out of or having lost my ‘YES’ sign, I accidentally held up my Charlton scarf upside down and the only two letters showing were the ON, but upside down ie NO... What are the odds? LOL12

Having helped out over the weeks before the vote I was able to obtain ticket to get into Town Hall.Spent some time with Kevin and David Fox that evening in a pub in Eltham.
Knew most of the fans that stood for The Valley Party.
Makes you feel old now 33 years ago.3 -

I am also in it. This culminated in photo of all of us there holding up YES signs, other than me, who held his Charlton scarf in reverse revealing NO 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤣 between two fellow supporters1

Close your eyes and imagine that we had really got a sniff how well Kevin was doing in Sherard, and had really packed the ward with canvassers on the day - and then the result is read out that Kevin had toppled Quentin Marsh, the Council Leader. Imagine the noise and chaos inside the hall at that moment. And then imagine the media scrum overnight, and the headlines next day. 😃
It's free because it didn't matter, we won anyway, but it never fails to entertain me, re-running it in my head with that result...12 -

Kevin Fox and Quentin Marsh went head to head in Sherard.
Oleman was indeed toppled by the swing in his ward caused by the Valley Party's presence. It was the perfect result, because we toppled the most influential enemy, without the resulting issue of what on earth a Valley Party councillor was going to do for the next four years 😂
Quentin Marsh was actually my classmate at rugby-playing St Dunstan's, I hadn't seen or thought of him since we all went our separate ways years earlier, and I've no idea how he ended up as a Labour politician. Certainly had zero interest in footie.0 -
