    Has to be a Negroni, but for something a bit different, try this: Calvados, Cassis, Raspberry Syrup, Prosecco, with a sphere of Blackcurrant Sorbet instead of ice; served in a fantastic Brighton restaurant!

    My missus had a blue coloured cocktail and loved it.  I had a red / ginger one that wasn't so good.  I had a taste of hers and it was really nice but I have no idea what was in it.  So my rule is - always buy the blue drink.

    Negroni, grasshopper, brandy Alexander, French 75, white lady, Kingston mule (aka dark and stormy if not made with Jamaican rum), Margarita, an amazing, one with blood orange sorbet that I can’t remember the name of.  I love making cocktails almost as much as I love drinking them.

    Gosh, I love a cocktail. I have a few favourites and a couple I keep coming back to:

    - French 75 (alternatively Soixante-Quinze) - gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, champagne. It has a great kick; a great taste; and is suitable at pretty much all occasions and for all weather.

    - Sazerac - this is the OG Old Fashioned. Cognac; absinthe; a cube of sugar; and two dashes of Peychaud's bitters. One for winter usually for me, but it's got a wonderful depth of flavour.

    - Old Fashioned - bourbon or rye whisky; a cube of sugar; dash of Angostura bitters. (Preferably garnished with a twist, for me.) Always reliable; usually available.

    - Manhattan - five parts rye whisky; two parts vermouth; dash Angostura bitters. No messing about - straight alcohol basically. Served either dry; sweet; or perfect depending on one's taste, usually it's garnished with a cherry, but I prefer dry and with a twist, to reduce the sweetness.

    - Long Island Iced Tea - these four words are universally translated as "I just want to get absolutely hammered". I'll have them if on that express mission - which is very, very rarely.

    I seem to have discovered a martini Spritz (50% off happy hour) bit of a kick, but they do go down a treat, I do like a bargain!

    Pina Colada easily. Love pineapple and coconut. Found a cider by Lilleys that is Pina Colada flavour. More like an alcopop. Goes down too easily.

    A proper spritz should have vermouth and gin, topped up with a dryish tonic, so not Schweppes.

    Turn your Harvey wallbanger into a comfortable screw against the wall by replacing the vodka with the southern comfort. Add sloe gin for a slow comfortable screw against the wall.

    Not from the cocktail generation at all other than the odd occasional Harvey Wallbanger 40 plus years ago when we were already well oiled.

    However, I was in York and Whitby meeting old friends last week and after Friday at York Races followed by Whitby Fish and Chips we found ourselves in a cocktail bar at the behest of the ladies in our company.

    Harvey Wallbangers weren't on offer so as I wasn't going to take the easy option of a pint of lager (no proper beer on offer) I had to be brave. My choice was 'The Gentleman.' This comprised Whiskey, Vanilla, Chocolate Mousse and Coffee and I have to say slipped down quite well.

    That said I don't see myself as a Cocktail Bar regular anytime soon.
