Three points, a clean sheet and we were the stronger side. Camara should have buried that last chance but we could/should have put the game away before then.
So we need more depth upfront, we won't see Miles Leaburn for a few more games and who knows if we'll ever see Chuks Aneke again...in the meantime I'm note sure that Tyreece Campbell is going to score the goals that a specialist striker would get. But he's probably been our most improved player year on year.
Man of the match for me - a toss up between CBT who had the right-back on toast and Dobbo had his usual great game. It was fitting that they combined for the goal.
There's room for improvement but I'd expect that to come as some of the new players get up to match speed.13 -

It did take an eternity though, and involved the whole team, which I've never seen at a set piece before. Indeed it was slower than the England cricket team's over rate this summer!

Yep, gotta be the quietest the Seed has ever been when full. Given it was 0 0 for thr first 45 you'd have expected loads more noise. And the front half of the stand were sitting down all game. Beautiful mate. I have 2 daughters and they took turns being my Charlton buddy over the years I went (they are mid thirties now). These were the days before iPads and Social Media, so K indulged me, but was only interested in the hot dogs, and E was more football orientated but confessed many years later that she only went to look at the "fit" footballer's arses and legs! Maybe when Camara and Edun are match fit and we have some more new players it may be different, but today was a midtable performance.0 -
Well I feel a lot more positive than most on here tonight. Cracking start to the season and plenty of encouragement.That wasn’t our best team and we will get better. Increasingly confident this will be a good season.Brilliant buzz around the ground today. Suspect those there enjoyed it 10 times more than those watching on stream.54

We looked painfully out of ideas hence Ness just knocking it long for May to work something out.
Have to say he did more as a solo forward than Stockley did in terms of pressuring and bringing the ball under control.1 -

Camera's miss was bad but I'm not sure all Charlton fans know the meaning of an open goal, if that's what they deemed it to be.3 -

Their back line was pushing up to compress the game and the long ball behind them is the option if you can't play through the bodies in the middle. Problem was quality, not quantity, of balls up to Alfie May.BigRedEvil said:

The return of Leaburn will give a better target for the long ball and Camara whose game is driving through bodies in midfield will reduce reliance on the long ball to beat the high block.

A good game for us. The first 10 minutes I thought we looked loose at the back but once we sorted that out we bossed the game really. May was unlucky not to score. He’s a live wire and will get goals. It’s nice to see so many quality Academy players in the team. Things are definitely looking up.Pratley had Fraser more or less in his pocket until he went off. Camara coming on was a breathe of fresh air. He’ll be class at L1 level I feel.We do need support for May up front though. Hopefully a couple more quality signings this week will do the trick.And, a crowd of 18,000 plus. Really, not too shabby. And, It’s always nice to start the weekend with a Charlton win. COYR!!4

Haven’t seen further replies to see if someone already has. The pluses are that we were fairly solid (which is a relief after last week's friendly), CBT was very effective in the first half before fading in the second, Dobson was excellent as he usually is, Anderson and Asiimwe didn't look out of place, and Edun made a very good first impression.
We'll face tougher tests, but today was a reasonably good start.
Camara is better at breaking up play and bringing the ball further up the pitch. But Fraser is MUCH better with his passing accuracy and final ball. They compliment each other in my opinion, they’re not competing for the same midfield spot.9 -
After 45 mins in the air circling Gatwick between 1230 and 115pm I thought my lad and I had little chance of making the game. We managed to get to our seats just 3 minutes before Dobbo’s winning goal and I am so pleased we made the effort.Whether there were 18.5k bums on seats or 16k, seeing the Valley fuller and in optimistic voice filled me with a lot of pride. Appreciate it is only the first game of the season, but that old expression ‘we’ve got our Charlton back’ couldn’t feel more apt.
Thought the fluidity of the formation switches was well worked and thought there were some really nice touches, passes and gritty tackles.Would have liked to have seen a few more clear cut chances, but could have missed half a dozen in the first 35 or so minutes for all I know.
Edun and Camara’s cameos give me a lot of hope for the season overall, while I thought only Fraser could have been a bit busier.
Love Dobbo, was everywhere and is as honest as the day is long. A skipper supreme who will lead a real charge this season.
As others have said, this was a banana skin, despite me believing we would win ahead of the game, so overcoming the challenge, bagging 3 points, a clean sheet with glimpses of so many good things to come leaves my appetite proper whetted for what will be a clearer marker in the sand come next Saturday vs Peterborough.13 -
