I understand why it was pulled, but really do miss it.
Political decisions play such a big part of everyone's life whether they realise it or not, and it is good to be able to debate it. There are threads on the main forum which at first sight are not political, but it's the political decisions behind them that often can't be ignored.
I hope it can be re-opened and that if anyone starts to make personal comments or starts name calling, then they should be warned and if they continue, they should be banned.5 -
Sadly I don't think it is possible; Some people ruin it for the rest and seem incapable of discussing anything reasonably; too biased and for some reason, read into other people comments something(s) they did not even say - how can you discuss something if you have said A but they say you have said A1, A2, A3 when you haven't? Not sure if they just want you to have said it as it suits them of if they just (incorrectly) think that is what you must mean, but don't (otherwise would have said that)!1

There are plenty of politics forums scattered across the internet. If you need your fix, then pop into one of them and crack on.

It's the same small group of posters who dominate the political threads and cause all the nonsense that it causes.
Just ban them for a period of say two months every time they try and hijack the threads.3 -
Nobody is forced to look at political threads, but it would be nice for those of us who do enjoy them, to have the opportunity to have a discussion without the puerile comments that some can't help making.4

I couldn't really see what there was to enjoy personally on the few times I took a look in there but each to their own. I'd have it back in a heartbeat though if it keeps all the crap off the main forum.0

You nail it. Which of us would be ready to give up time to moderate it, and even if so, would we be any good at it? Moderation is a real effort and commitment and we are lucky to have such good ones. Don't know if it's helpful, but I asked the AI to come up with new guidelines that could lead to a more functional HoC.

Sort of - one of the things I love about football is it's relative unimportance - it is a good place to express tribalism, anger, bile and banter. When that spills over into politics it becomes toxic.SporadicAddick said:

If you wanna chat absolute bollocks about politics and stuff, go to Reddit where it's a veritable smorgasbord of hate fueled wankers spouting off and arguing, and they have moderators on there too if it all gets too much.

I think it is ok to criticise a group/party and disagree strongly with a point being made but name calling or personal accusations of a poster being this or that is wrong. If it is clear that any example of that where the comment is too personalised, the person is banned, not warned but banned, the forum could be made to work.4

Create an unmoderated sub forum where anything goes with the proviso that if you post on it you can't post on the main forum for at least 24 hours. The CL ultras and casuals can then all crack on happily and the mods can concentrate on more important things like writing timely match previews.1

I suggested to the moderators some time ago that a system of yellow/red cards, sin bin, and ultimately banning from the HoC could be tried on HoC, to deal with those posters lacking self control whose trolling and rudeness ruin discussions for the majority of users. I realise that initially this may be difficult to implement, but hopefully this would be a short-term pain for long-term gain.
What is the alternative? Politics, be they local, national, or international, affect every aspect of our lives, INCLUDING FOOTBALL! Last session of Parliament included a white paper about the recommendations of the fan led review. Logically, the King's Speech in a few weeks time SHOULD include an intention to bring before Parliament a bill on the same issue.
Are we going to discuss this on the main forum? Inevitably the discussion will expand to include references to party politics, as has the thread on the Cost of Living - which affects how much disposable income fans have available for travel & tickets for matches - not to mention the travel difficulties experienced due to issues such as industrial action, which also have political aspects. The Greenwood issue brought discussion of misogyny to this forum, and now the situation facing the Spanish football authorities with regards to the (mis)-behaviour of their president may have implications for international football. Both could be argued to be "political" subjects.
Next year, will this forum ban discussion of the Olympics? Because the ins and outs of participation of Russian and Belarussian competitors is definitely a political subject which will arise. And what happens when a date is announced for the General Election, the outcome of which will affect ALL aspects of UK life? Not to mention the global implications of the outcomes of presidential candidate elections in the US.
It could equally be argued there is no room on a football forum for discussion of athletics, boxing, horse racing, etc. I'm not suggesting this, by the way, but would it not be as valid an argument as that put forward by some who say there is no room on Charlton Life for non-sport discussions?8 -
