FAB = Forward All Brothers.  It's not, but should have been.

Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet were the top two shows. Made in supernarionation. Brilliant.

The documentary about the Andersons and the making of these iconic series is well worth a gander, I watched it a couple of years back. Going to have to go Google it now,

My brother had the Tracy Island toy. which had moving parts for the thunderbird crafts to launch from. no idea whats happened to it. Still have some of the actual Thunderbird toys.

    Stingray was also a fav.

never got into captain scartlet. there was no jeopardy as he could always heal himself.

I think UFO had the potential to be truly great but it lost its way. I think it was a bit too vague ultimately and I'm not sure the writers knew where they were going. A bit like the American series Lost, which initially I thought was excellent until it became obvious the writers didn't know where the story was going.

It was interesting how the special effects was merged into live action and I think it worked.  Gerry Anderson was forced to use puppets for cost reasons and always wanted to use real actors. We obviously had Space 1999 which evolved out of UFO when it was cancelled and Space Precinct which was interesting but the concept didn't match the production skill IMO.

I would love somebody to take UFO and use the structure to produce a really tight narrative that develops over a series or two.

This was another example of Dinky getting the colours wrong. I did have one of course, even so.

    Fuck yeah!
  • No one has mentioned Supercar or Fireball XL5, but maybe I’m just too old!

Not my type. But Marina from Stingray, now that’s an entirely different proposition………

    No fish jokes, please.
  • I only opened this thread as I had happened upon a rather good version of the Fireball XL5 theme tune.  Then I realised that Fireball XL5 is nothing to do with Thunderbirds ... nor is Stingray or Supercar - they all merge into one in the dusty tunnels of my brain.

However, I did read this nugget of information. Did you know that Jeff Tracy's sons Scott (pilot of Thunderbird 1 and principal rescue coordinator), Virgil (pilot of Thunderbird 2 ), Alan (astronaut in Thunderbird 3 ), Gordon (aquanaut in Thunderbird 4 ), and John (principal duty astronaut on the space station Thunderbird 5 ) were named after real-world Mercury astronauts Scott Carpenter,  Virgil Grissom, Alan Shepard, Gordon Cooper, and John Glenn, respectively.

Not a lot of people know that!

I’ve got my old Dinky Thunderbirds toys on display, along with Captain Captain Scarlett and Joe 90 ones. I’be also got a Supercar picture signed by Gerry Anderson somewhere. My sister worked in children’s TV and got it for me years ago.

    Probably worth a bit.
The vehicle isn't Supercar in that pictire and the girl in the vehicle is Doctor Venus. The Guy is Steve Zodiac and the monkey is Zoony, I am sure it is from Fireball XL5, not Supercar. That could make it more valuable even though Supercar was the first.

I agree, but the autograph is still of interest.
