Thing is Cowley (if it’s him) isn’t a failed manager. He’s known success and seen relative failure but he’s pretty much exactly the type of manager who we could reasonably expect to attract. Bigger names are not dropping into Division three especially to a club that is perceived and seen to be in a maelstrom. The only other options are similar to Cowley like Appleton or an up and coming Division four manager. Might work out or it could go the way of Garner. Either route is a punt.

Agree totally so why not take a punt on Pearce and if that doesn't work take a punt on one of these or whoever is available at the time? Two punts for the price of one surely. 

Because then you burn Pearce as a future option. He’s about a year into coaching the youth teams, let him sit there for a couple of years to gain some experience. Managers don’t tend to last more than 3 years so he won’t have to wait for too long 

I don't see that. You don't appoint him as manager, you make him a caretaker and consider alternatives. If it isn't going well you don't sack him but put him back where he was and focus on the work you are already doing on finding an alternative. In a year or two or three it wouldn't be unreasonable to give him another chance.

Well, to be fair that's quite a reductive view on it. Challinor took over Fylde in 2011 when they were in the NPL First Division North and won it. He then guided them to 5th the next season losing in the play-offs, then 3rd where he won them. In the Conference North he then finished 2nd (PO semis) then 3rd (PO final loss). The next season they won it and he then finished 7th and 5th up yet another league where he again had a bad PO experience. In 8 years he had three promotions, one FA Trophy win and 6 PO appearances. The only seasons he didn't get his team into the POs was when he won the league until his final season where things started to go wrong. They sacked him in October 2019 with the team in the relegation zone on goal difference and they then went on to be relegated anyway, albeit in a curtailed season. They lost a lot of players that season to L1 and L2 teams so I'm not surprised they struggled. Every manager eventually hits a point where they need to move on but to call his time at Fylde a 'failure' redeemed by his future success is insane, they were two leagues down when he started with them. The only thing that slightly worries me about him is he seems to be absolutely rubbish at winning play-off games but that's the least of our worries at the moment.

But he did gain promotion with Hartlepool from the National League through the play-offs.

What a pond we are now finishing in. With all due respect Stockport manager (lost 3 out of their first 5 games) and now the Northampton manager.

Glad we have billionaires owning the club that are clearly going for the cheap options and shows a complete lack of ambition.

Who do you expect us to go for considering we are a league 1 club?...  who do you think we can attract?
