So we tout the usual suspects, Appleton and Cowley and everyone moans. Then young up and coming managers are mentioned and everyone moans. Internal promotion for Pearce? Everyone moans.

Newsflash, we're a bang average league 1 side and have been for years now, we're not an attractive proposition, you aren't going to entice world class managers here
Actually the two up and coming managers named, Brady and Challinor, are both older than the two usual suspects.
Like so much in life it's perception.

Didn't Jon Brady play with Rodwell at Rushden & Diamonds?

Would imagine there's quite a few would rather be working at Charlton than be unemployed.

A lot of different names being interviewed / approached, a very public search for a new manager.

All those who have put money on Cowley are gonna be disappointed then.

    Challinor is now the favourite

Cowley would be hugely uninspiring. Down naff-all since leaving Lincoln.
2019/20: full season with Huddersfield, finished 18th in the Championship

2020/21: 12 games at the back end of the season with Portsmouth - winning six (two draws, four losses). Team were in 10th and ended the season in 8th.

2021/22: full season with Portsmouth, finished 10th. 20 games won out of 46 (13 draws, 13 losses)

2022/23: 22 games with Portsmouth, sacked after 1-3 defeat to Charlton. Team was in 12th and finished season in 8th. Record: W7 D10 L5

So since Huddersfield done better than whoever was managing us.

  • Asked my mate about challinor and this is what I got… Can’t say it sounds too exciting and the general consensus I have seen from Stockport fans is he is struggling this year.
This doesn't exactly sound overly encouraging.

Especially as we have no one decent to cross the ball and our main striker is 5ft 9.

I’m confident that it’s not true at this point that the club have gone back to Chris Powell. If people are being briefed otherwise then they should doubt the integrity of their sources.
So your source is right everyone else's source is wrong?

I do not believe that powell is in the running, or bowyer. We will end up with Appleton or Johnson in my opinion but you do come across as very rude and abrupt sometimes
How on Earth is that rude? I’d read your post as MUCH more rude and aggressive. He’s just made a simple statement !!

I'm right you're wrong. It could have been worded better. Very dismissive of everyone else. Telling them to question their sources integrity! How high and mighty is that!

The guy comes across very rude and high and mighty in the majority of his posts and has been called out on it before. But as other posters on here have also suggested, there is a lick Rick rim culture on here!

what is wrong with "I trust my sources who are telling me different, I'm sure you trust yours, let's see how this pans out!

and I'm also making a statement. Is that not allowed because I haven't got a band of arse lickers following me on here?
I can't think why anyone would consider you rude.

I'm a bettor but next manager markets are something I never touch. It would be a surprise if Charlton chose Challinor (how's that for alliteration?) but Stockport would be a good next job for the Cowleys.

At the moment winning a game would feel like a miracle. What I don’t want from any more managers is all the PR nonsense, pub with the fans, trip the museum (although it’s fantastic), and all the other gaining a deep appreciation of the club and its fans nonsense. It’s been done time and time again by failed managers and it’s too easy. Just get the best out of the players.
What are your 3 goals for today?
  • At least if we get Challinor he may have better insight into who should be taking our long throws.Maybe not our main striker who is 5ft7in.

Whatever happened to supporting your team through thin and thinner 🙄
Thought the late seventies was thin , the early eighties was even thinner.
The premiership years didn’t go to many matches.
But bad ownership after bad ownership and manager after manager is just making us the laughing stock of the EFL.

Whats more you just know without backing the next manager moneywise  it isn’t going to get any better.

With all these 'failed managers' being mentioned, I'd rather go with Pearce and see how it works out.
Thing is Cowley (if it’s him) isn’t a failed manager. He’s known success and seen relative failure but he’s pretty much exactly the type of manager who we could reasonably expect to attract. Bigger names are not dropping into Division three especially to a club that is perceived and seen to be in a maelstrom. The only other options are similar to Cowley like Appleton or an up and coming Division four manager. Might work out or it could go the way of Garner. Either route is a punt.

Agree totally so why not take a punt on Pearce and if that doesn't work take a punt on one of these or whoever is available at the time? Two punts for the price of one surely.
Pearce has been in full time coaching less than two years and always effectively under supervision. That’s not even a punt compared to someone like Challinor or Richardson. It’s the cheapest of cheap option with a ready made fall guy. Having said that it’s worked before.

Pearce has played 513app in the League many of those games at CB and many as captain where he organised defenders around him.
Not saying he should get the gig but he really isn't inexperienced when it comes to making decisions on or off the field.

Not sure if Jason will be available for long as he is wanted by the England rugby team who are also in a right old mess as the tackling coach, as they noticed no one got past him without hitting the deck with two arms firmly around the body.

    Sad really.

Is this what we have come too ?  No disrespect to any of the teams or their fans but interviewing managers at Stockport & Northampton is not my idea of success.

SE7 Partners have been in charge for 6 weeks & things are starting to unravel already.

    Utter shambles.

Bolton fans probably said the same about getting Ian Evatt from Barrow. Challinor has 2 recent promotions and nearly got a 3rd at the first time of asking last season

If it is done and it’s Challinor I still think they should announce today and get him in the dugout on Saturday. It’s a free hit against a really poor side, if we don’t win then he hasn’t been there long enough, if we do win he’s off to a great start

Explain how this is unravelling.?  It makes sense to interview up and coming managers as well as established ones.
I guess you are just being your miserable self and i shouldn't bite.

Just hope Challinor or whoever can bring their backroom staff with them too.

Holden | Garner | Adkins... None of them have been able to select their own staff.

I disagree. These are exactly the type of up and coming managers we should be looking at.

Fresh ideas, know the !ower leagues scouting for bargains and a defined system of play.

Far better than reverting back to Bowyer, Powell etc. Happy for Atherton too tbh

    😂

Let’s get Steve Bruce or maybe Pardew back then. Managed at top premier league level!

Challinor has had considerable success recently and fits the mould of an Evatt or Michael Duff. Be a far more interesting appointment than Cowley or Appleton.

Richardson would still get my vote though.

People would be fine with a lot of these names if we had a squad we knew was capable of promotion. That's the problem, not the rumoured managers.

Notice that Challinor's Assistant is Clint Hill - Hopefully he can sort out Defence out.
