Addick Tendinopathy.  The tendency for players to develop injury or else become apathetic early in their career with Charlton.  This seems to have taken the primary course.

Hoping it was just a mix of a slight knock and being too tired to continue. Looked bright against Oxford and was decent again yesterday, so he'd be a big loss I think

I think he looks good.  Has a good touch.  For a lot of players you’ve either got that or you haven’t, and I’ve always thought it’s something that can’t be taught.  Early days but he looks like he’s got much more to him than Fraser, and I would love to see his place in the team under threat as I think he massively flatters to deceive
9 goals and 5 assists last season, and this season we’ve been on a very poor run since he has been injured.

Not saying he’s a world beater, but I don’t really think he flatters to deceive and overall I think we look like a better side when he plays.

Chem looks very decent though so far which is good for us.
  • Just been sent back to wolves, personally thought he was a good impact sub, maybe Appleton is fully committed to playing without wingers if we sell up CBT?

Hasn't worked out for him, not surprised or disappointed to see him return. Although i did think he was unfairly frozen out earlier on in the season when he was starting to look useful.

I think he was just too inconsistent and Appleton clearly didn't rate him as a winger. Would expect Saturday's performance was the final nail in the coffin. I think you're right though @GetYerCoreyOut, unless we suddenly bring in wingers I think the formation change is permanent

Must have a superstar replacement lined up.

Pretty forgetful loanee but we've had far worse
  • I'm not sure what his best position is. He seemed more effective in a number 10 type of role earlier in the season
  • Hasn’t worked out for us. Looks okay going forward, but is very poor defensively. Reminds me of good youth players who have technical ability, but lacks everything else needed to be a top player. Counted about 5 times against Oxford when he missed or ducked headers.

Surprised to see him recalled , thought he might have been an effective No10 option. Does free up a loan spot I expect for a striker.
  • Surprises me given he's been playing of late... Wonder if we're leaning towards 3-5-2 now

Especially if CBT leaves as suspected - Tyreece Campbell didnt look too bad as a second Striker (as an option) early on in the season.

    Sent back or recalled?

Attempting to play wing backs seems like a mental strategy at the moment when we have only 1 senior player for each side, and Watson is shit.

Thought he did quite well, especially considering he came in completely from the cold after Appleton blanked him until he was desperate. 2 goals and 2 assists in 737 minutes, which is about a goal contribution every two games. Shame the end of his time will be remembered for his terrible final performance in a stupid formation

I'm left wondering this as well. Not quick or skillful enough in my opinion to be a winger and doesn't seem to have all the attributes to be a CM in league 1, which leaves the number 10 role but don't think he's gonna really set the league alight there either.

agreed - we've got loads of midfielders but absolutely no one good enough for the wing back position either side.

Although if it means we play 2 up top then it's a step in the right direction
  • Not overly bothered about his recall as don't think he's shown enough, but more of a consideration now from a numbers perspective as we're v. short in those wide positions.

Also, always find it odd when a player can go from being in the manager's starting 11 to not good enough/surplus to requirements in the space of less than 48 hours! Either an indication of the manager not having a robust idea on preferred approach/formation/personnel, or if it is more indicative of plans this month to bring targeted players in that will replace/upgrade - most likely it is probably a bit of both...

The simple answer my friend is that Appleton doesn't know his arse from his elbow. No has no idea whatsoever!

Looked ok when we first signed him, was soon Charltonised though. Definitely think he has the attributes to play at this level.

I think with loan players you can be more "ruthless".

Play him on Saturday because he's what you've got, but when you know that you've got someone else coming in this week, then get rid a couple of days later.

    Poorly managed imo by Appleton.

No idea what our set up will be like going forward but a 3-5-2 with Watson and Edun is suicide.

Good player but a bit of a luxury player that probably isn’t good enough to justify carrying. Only useful when he has the ball at his feet, doesn’t make runs without the ball and offers very little defensively

A good summing up Naby, more often than not, good players can be judged in what they do when they haven't got the ball.

Saturday, first half injury time summed him up for me.

A Peterborough player has the ball 5 yards away from him. Instead of closing down, He stops running and screams at Dobbo, who has to run 20 yards across to cover and leaves our midfield out of shape.

He flattered to deceive. He got the ball and sometimes held on to it, but he offered nothing in terms of creativity, work rate or any kind of defensive cover. Saturday just confirmed what Appleton had already seen.

Looked looked very much like a ‘not the current manager’ signing. Was ok, we’ve had worse. don’t  think we ever played to his strengths, but won’t exactly be missed greatly.

2 goals and 3 assists is pretty good in 708 minutes!
