Obscene?

How obscene is our world becoming when a bottle of whisky can be sold at auction for 2.7million?
How much is this behaviour, shoving it in the face of the ‘have nots’?
It really is disgraceful, IMHO.

I don't have 2.7m and I don't like whiskey, so therefore I don't give a shit if someone wants to waste their money18
-
Personally, I couldn't care less.
I think most people around the world wouldn't even know about the auction and even if they did have more pressing issues to concern themselves about.5 -
How many of us opened this thread expecting to find something more "interesting" than a bottle of whiskey...🙄
By the way, fool and his/her money are easily parted...9 -
If somebody offered me a glass of it I'd decline as I can't stand Whiskey.4

I suppose if you don't drink it, it is like buying gold.0

Cost of living crisis innit.0

Someone has something for sale. Someone wants that thing and is willing to pay the asking price. A sale takes place. A packet of crisps, a bottle of whiskey, a house….no difference.
Command economies fail.2 -

It's not really rubbing it in the face of the have nots - that's an accusation that could be more accurately targeted at all the shitty celeb tv stuff such as crazy rich agents snooping into multi-million pound houses and the tossers who sell them.0

But it does, reflect for me, that when society and our world is in such a mess, where people can’t afford to heat their homes or have to buy food at a food bank, and the unfair distribution of wealth, that, that money would go a long way into changing some peoples lives, rather than wasted on something so trivial!5 -

Is it obscene that the Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani built a residential skyscraper alleged to have cost over $1 billion for a family of 6 in a country where millions live below the poverty line?
Is it obscene that someone bought a watch at auction last year for $31m?
Is it obscene that Ralph Lauren owns a Bugatti worth a reported $40m?
The answer to all the above is probably yes, but who really cares? It doesn't affect any of our day to day lives. If people can afford these things then good luck to them.3 -

I made sure the wife was not lurking before I opened this thread, bit of an anti climax!3 -

Its about awareness of the unfairness of our society where we have such polarised extremes.0 -

Turn that around and it means that about 97% of us only own about 3 %.
We need a major reset when it comes to wealth distribution but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it to happen.9 -

Money, Whiskey, BitCoin, Gold, Art, "Property", Vintage Cars
All the same thing really.
Buying a bottle of Whiskey and not drinking it is like exchanging pounds for dollars and not spending it.0
