May is our only good striker available and even he needs someone next to himCallumcafc said:We need a goalkeeper, a left back, a centre back, two centre midfielders, a winger and a striker.
Good luck.
kanu not ready
tedic useless and needs sending back
we need at least 2 good strikers in0 -
We were told in the summer that we weren’t going in for another left back because we felt Thomas was good enough cover for Edun. We’re at the point now where we could sign almost any left back in the world and I would question if Edun was good enough cover for him. The most disappointed I’ve been in a signing in a while. I’m hopeful he’s secretly the best midfielder ever because whatever he’s doing at left back isn’t it.2

Need better players in almost every position. The summer was the time to do it but we just replaced rubbish with more rubbish0
-
Before we waste a window getting in players the next manager won't want maybe Apples should be replaced first.16

Think you could say the same about Tennai Watson. Both new full backs have failed to impress.Garrymanilow said:We were told in the summer that we weren’t going in for another left back because we felt Thomas was good enough cover for Edun. Massive pressure on Scott now to deliver EARLY signings before the season completely disintegrates.8

Are you serious? Really?LargeAddick said:Before we waste a window getting in players the next manager won't want maybe Apples should be replaced first.
im not an Appleton fan but he inherited holdens wank squad, with Holden inheriting garners wank squad. I could go on and on.
the guy has lost 3 league games since he took over in September and you are calling for his head!!!!
at least give the guy a chance to play a game with one player he signed ffs.
what a pathetic post. As are all the others for calling for a manager to be sacked
who hasn't had a transfer window in charge18 -
We also need a right back. T Watson isn’t good enough either.Callumcafc said:We need a goalkeeper, a left back, a centre back, two centre midfielders, a winger and a striker.
Good luck.7 -
I have a suspicion that we’ll all be quite satisfied by our January window but for this season its already way too late. Summer will also need significant investment and that’s when I think we should judge the owners and Appleton.8
-
Man for man today our players are better than Orient’s but Appleton can’t get a tune out of them. Some of what you say is right but Appleton is too late to change things up and when he does it’s just like for like changes and the system doesn’t change, he never tries anything different. And you can say he’s had injuries to contend with but Holden started the season without Leaburn, Aneke and even Tedic wasn’t signed during his tenure. Under Appleton we will be going nowhere.Todds_right_hook said:

Which players in their right mind are thinking coming to us will be a good move?
As Groucho Marx said (ish) if a player wants to come here that should disqualify them for being wrong 'uns.
I would rather have a miserable time with our young players than finished, has been, mercenaries.1 -
I keep seeing posts that we have a okay squad on paper, the manager should be getting more out of them etc. Besides 2 or 3 players this is a lower league 1 team. That's why when the manager changes the poor results continue. This is also why most players that depart the club end up in L2.
Years of loans and free players, cost saving and terrible recruitment has left this club a shell of its former self. To get out of this league you need a decent manager and spent the money to hoover up the talent. The current strategy is the same strategy the small L1 clubs all use, loans and freebies. Yes, the odd time it proves successful but for the most part it's mid table at best one can hope for.
But, we'll hear the same old story rolled out in January, we tried to spend money but couldn't quite get them over the line. Instead we'll get some more free injury prone players and a few loans of kids no one has ever heard of.
This is really starting to wear me down as I'm sure most feel the same.

With tedic, Campbell and then not ready players like Kanu, our Campbell and Anderson plus a small injury hit squad we are going nowhere. Let the manager replace those players with players that he wants and then judge him.LargeAddick said:

im not saying he is the second coming of pep but we shouldn't be calling for his head either.11 -
Out of interest where did you stand on Holden because he had a worse hand than Appleton.Todds_right_hook said:

It all harks back to the summer window, ok we were a bit behind the eight ball due to the delay of our takeover but we had enough time to do better than we did and clearly there was an over reliance on youth. I've given up on this year again now. We should be making a plan for next summer starting so we start next season we a good enough squad and a bit momentum.1

playing alfie may up top on his own or on the wing is a sackable offence - in fact, i'd like to think he could be arrested for it - its surely criminal?Todds_right_hook said:

Scott knew before the takeover that it was going through and had plenty of time to get player's ready to come in when it was done6
-
Anyone wanting or thinking that Dobson will sign a new deal needs to think again. Interesting comment made by a senior figure in the Orient director lounge after the game around the players who have been here for a couple of years, that includes Dobson, and a change of culture is needed.I’ll believe it when I see it but I genuinely don't think the club want to keep Dobson so he will be off. Offers have been made but not a huge desire from the club to pay what he wants.Hoping to offload a few others but won’t be solved in January but agreed a reset is needed and that doesn’t include sacking the manager.6
-
Is it within the rules to talk to players and get them ready to sign before you are even part of the club?ross1 said:Scott knew before the takeover that it was going through and had plenty of time to get player's ready to come in when it was doneI’m not defending him as do agree he could have done more than what’s happened, but don’t think we can moan that he didn’t have players ready to sign as soon as takeover was completed. Surely needed to officially be part of the club before making the deals etc.0 -
Talking to players before you buy goes on all the time. You just cannot make it known publicly. They talk to the agents first, see if the player would be interested, then go in with a bid later0

I think the poster meant is it allowable before you actually own the Club or actually employed by the Club.ross1 said:Talking to players before you buy goes on all the time. Appleton still has credit with me. Squad is struggling with injuries and is full of kids on the bench. Blame us 100% on the Recruitment team than management for me. However, I don’t understand why L Watson can’t get a start in midfield

Yeah you’d probably get told by a club / agent to piss off if you tried.
“Hello it’s Andy Scott, if the takeover goes through four weeks from now I want to talk about your playe…”
Anyone worth anything would hang up the phone at that point.5 -
I don’t agree with this. A takeover is done when it’s done and not before. Agents, players and other clubs won’t be fussed in dealing with what might or might not be. Sadly for us the new ownership didn’t have a summer window and this January and next summer will inform us what their thinking is. I’d say we’re eight to ten players away from a promotion push and I’m guessing we’ll be needing to replace CBT this window and possibly Leaburn the January after. Two big players for us even before the other team rebuild takes place.ross1 said:Scott knew before the takeover that it was going through and had plenty of time to get player's ready to come in when it was done3 -

Can't remember who but I am sure there was a club who changed hands and immediately announced 3-4 players within 24 hours so I am not convinced this is true.ShootersHillGuru said:I have a suspicion that we’ll all be quite satisfied by our January window but for this season its already way too late. Not a complete stab in the dark or blind optimism. I have heard that there is a will to move things on and still have a go at top six. I think that’s gone personally and has been gone for some time but I think money will be spent and there will be some encouraging signings. Needs a repeat in the summer though assuming my info is correct. Let’s put it this way. I’m more encouraged by next season than this.Athletico Charlton said:ShootersHillGuru said:

IMO the moment Leaburn got injured the work to save the season became to great for a single January window. Need a new CB, CM and a striker. A lot to ask in a summer window, let alone a January window. Probably need 6 signings in January to cover the ones who will be returned to parents and the likely departure of CBT.Have zero faith they will recruit the correct type of players needed. For example, both full backs; Edun and Watson neither of them have the height to help when defending set pieces. Charlton were always going to struggle in this area once Innis was released.2
-
All I will say is that it will all be too little too late. But I don't expect you'll agree with me and, like always, I'll be told to he patient, give it time blah blah blah.
But in May when we finish 16th you'll all be agreeing with me.
And then the summer transfer window will open & the merry-go-round will start all over again. I'll be told that Ipswich have got it all wrong by spending all that money or that Pompey are just signing players for the sake of it and they should wait until late August when all the bargains appear.
One season.....just for once....I would like to be proved wrong.12 -
I don't believe the current set up know how to recruit for a promotion push.ShootersHillGuru said:

Based on evidence of the last two windows.1
