Should also put in this thread... Rodwell said during the fan's meeting that the January window would be more about loans than permanent signings.
But to be fair he did say we are chasing permanent deals and have offers in but we may see loans come in as stop gaps before we chase those players again in the summer but too that the loans would have to be an improvement on what we already have.

    Don't be sensible
You and your brother aren't allowed to be sensible in January!

I think they said the same thing about the loans in the summer.

Good job we have Andy Scott then, who has a great track record in finding the best loan players…

What is the point in loans when we have nothing to play for?
  • Nothing apart from avoiding relegation.

To stave off relegation so we can sign another shedload of useless shite in the summer and do it all over again

Then Lyle refuses to play as he's got something lined up for the end of the season.  Big big school offer.
So this isn't entirely factual and I think if we all knew the truth, we might not feel so much ill towards Lyle as we should Southall. If it wasn't for him, both Gallagher and Lyle would still have been there.
I see what you did there 🙂
Selling facts, we made an offer to him in December for between 10/15k a week he accepted, it was sent to the EFL for approval, they returned it to Southall and said your kidding, you can't afford this you have no money. What did he do? He withdrew the offer than told us Lyle wouldn't sign. He then proceeded to ask the players to play in during Covid without being insured. Would you?

On Gallagher, we were paying 3k of his 15k a week wages, Swansea came along and said to Chelsea, we will pay you 8k. Chelsea then called and said look his happy but at the end of the day it's about money, just give us 1/2k more and you can keep him, jist a gesture. Southall told them to do one, 2 days later he was recalled. A meeting was even arranged with Gallaghers agent and Southall did the same with him. So many more I could mention but I'll give you those 2.

I dont hate Lyle, as a person a very likeable man. As a player brilliant for us, if I was in his shoes then, I can see why he did what he did. Play for me uninsured after I've said you won't sign a new deal? Go fuck yourself.

I wonder if Jake Young from Bradford would be worth a look at

Scored 16-goals on loan at Swindon this season already before being recalled a few weeks ago

    He's 6.1ft and just 22-years old...

Others might know more about him than me just by looking at stats though
I don't know a huge amount about him but he feels a real risk of being a flash in the pan to me. Half a season being a great scorer in L2 behind him and even with those goals and Bradford sitting in 14th their fans were discussing on their board the merits of whether he would get into their team once recalled from Swindon. Personally seems risky but I have never seen him play so who knows.

I have said on here before but Max Dean I find interesting at MKDons.  Same risk of only half a season success in L2 but in his highlights and described character traits he seems like an Alfie May the second to me.

  • DOBBO: can I start by saying that I love Dobbo, I think he is the best player in the team with Alfie and I also know there is no loyalty in football but remember when he signed for us, there were Sunderland fans a plenty calling him useless, good riddance and will drive him to Charlton myself, since then he has progressed greatly here to the extent that he was given the captain's armband, now after a good last season and a half he wants away! I know all the arguments about basket case club and all that but a bit of loyalty wouldn't go a miss, I am sure he has been made a very good offer and it gets on my threepenny bits when you take a player out of a shite situation they were in, improve them and suddenly they want off, I'll don the old battered tin hat now whoever has got it

You agree a 3 year contract and a player stays and gives his all for 3 years, that's fair enough, and I don't think the player owes the club anything.

It's different when players want iut 2 years into a 3 year deal or whatever.

If a player is good for a while then out of form for the last year of a contract, a club has no issue releasing them.

Obviously I'd be very happy if Dobson signed a new contract.
  • Most teams sign strikers because they're desperate for goals, whereas in our case, it's the hold up play and physical presence we lack, so I'd have no problem with Michael Smith.

We have a David Whyte or Clive Mendonca already, but lack the Carl Leaburn for them to play off.

I suspect Smith would prefer to stay further north though.

If Dobson leaves then it’s all Bromley Addicks fault.

    Simple as that.

    Same goes for CBT too.

    As they should
If we were top 6, winning games, with a real chance of promotion and the club made them a good offer, they'd sign.

I wouldn't re-sign for us based on the current footballing prospects at CAFC

They must be crazy though- what with Appleton being the best coach in the world and all that...

Club is a mess.. It is no quick fix! this years of damage.. And if you are not going to allow time, it will never be fixed!

Super hero Varney isn't coming to the rescue.. suck it up, and support! We have little option..
But Charlie said it wasn't hard with better management to reduce the losses to £1.5m - £2m per year and establish ourselves as a top half Championship side.

If it's not hard how comes we're making it look quite difficult being a top half Division 3 side??...

I suspect this might come down to how much he thinks Shef Wed will be in the championship next season and if he wants to stay closer to home.. Finances are in our advantage from what I have heard.

I understand we have moved for another left footed CB, I have no details on the identity of the player.. The gent from Plymouth isn't dead yet, but feels like the club won't be wait around!
According to reports our offer better then Sheff Wed .. and we are still front runners
Time will tell.. I would say this is going to be a busy week.
They must be cramming it all in to today and tomorrow... exciting times!

That’s a classic example of why I try to avoid hearing/reading anything they say. It’s bad for your mental health!
But I’d like to remind everybody that we’re in the hands of an old Etonian. What could possibly go wrong!?

Absolutely amazing signing for Hull that. Would’ve thought a premier league club would’ve taken him

I know this was said tongue in cheek (at least I hope so) but as was said on the other thread that was a blatant lie.

One or two people out of 70 said sell, most didn't respond verbally to Rodwell's rather loaded question of "What would you do if they wont sign a contract?"

Also, at the time, early December, we still had a realistic if outside chance of top six if we kept them and bought well in January.  How things have changed in a month.

Exactly. Such an exaggeration by Rodwell.

It wasn’t heard at the time, clearly, but I said keep them as we won’t sign better in January.

Won’t happen ever with those figures. Clubs that operate on those losses in the championship end up back in league 1
  • Regardless of its been asked before or not I think it is a valid question. If we are doomed for another nothing season and both players refuse to sign, should we cash in now?
