Simple as that.
Same goes for CBT too.
If we were top 6, winning games, with a real chance of promotion and the club made them a good offer, they'd sign.
I wouldn't re-sign for us based on the current footballing prospects at CAFC
They must be crazy though- what with Appleton being the best coach in the world and all that...
Super hero Varney isn't coming to the rescue.. suck it up, and support! We have little option..
If it's not hard how comes we're making it look quite difficult being a top half Division 3 side??...
He said failure stops now
Methven said you only have to be better than previous owners to dramatically cut losses and establish ourselves in the top half of the Championship.
They were completely wrong or they aren't very good at their jobs.
Of course it would take time regardless of the manager etc
Right now though, we are lightyears away.
As I said, it won't happen over night!
We are not looking to scrap the bottom of the barrel now.
On top of the last two he's had some say in, plus this one?
FIVE WINDOWS?
We are really setting the bar low aren't we
window 1. He was working for sandgaard under a completely different brief. The owner wanted out and wanted to reduce costs. From sandgaards point of view, last January was a good window.
window 2. What percentage of the window had gone when the new owners took control? How many realistic targets had moved on by that stage?
window 3. This is the first full window Scott has had.Summary. As this is his first full window and I'll judge him come February.
The whole of January last year
From the 21st July when his group that he’s employed by took over the club. His last 4 signings shown to be panic stations and 2 of those already thrown back
And 11 days into this one now and very likely to still be charge by the end of itScott along with Holden, Warrick and Rodwell were appointed on the 20th December 2022

Penney
Kane
The midfielder whose name I can barely remember
Hector (not bad, they can have that one)
and what they picked up last minute.com in the sales in August needs their bumps felt
They talk a good game
but maybe they can't actually see a good player when it's smacking them in the face
I noticed from the presentation that not only do we have our own data analysts, but we are also using a data analyst firm
And yet we still keep signing shit!

Remember the days when you were a kid, popped to Harrods and Selfridges, eyed up and would love to have the £300 fragrances, £200 Tshirts and £2000 shoes. But, your wallet was more aligned to Primark and C&A.0

Wow, you really just told other fans who aren't happy to "suck it up"
Unbelievable.
Suck it up and try to support the club, and see what happens or don't go and spend your hard earned cash.
Think last night they delivered a message, they know they haven't got it right, they have made mistake, they know it isn't an easy fix, they are trying to correct the wrongs, they have owners who are willing to invest money in the playing side, and non-playing side.
I am frustrated as much as anyone how poor this season has been, how we have left ourselves short, how things don't seem to be going to plan this window.. But need to give them a chance, personally,
I don't we will see the really benefits for another 18months - 2 years in my opinion, it is a project!
But but but..... you said on Monday it was going to be a busy week!!!!
Quickest reversal since your last one!
It is football, things are always changing, players change minds more times than hot dinners.. Not everything does go to plan when recruiting players, and that's not only Charlton, that is clubs up and down the country!!
I am going to leave it here now..5 -
Anyway.. Coventry deal might be back on.. Shef Wed have refused to match our offer in terms of wages! So we are back in with a sniff, but there our 2 other championship clubs interested, but haven't agreed a fee as of yet. Might have been the player Scott was talking to last night.28

This is getting ridiculous! The thread title is January 2024 Transfer rumours, yet we have had pages and pages of discussing AS and how many windows he's had, added to last night's fans forum. Why can't this thread be about rumours and everything else go on another existing thread or start a new one. I log in of a morning see 60 or so unread posts....not one fucking rumour, just people bloody arguing again! Please can we just stick to any rumours, if any, and if not take the other stuff elsewhere...simple surely!

Grovenuts said:DOBBO: can I start by saying that I love Dobbo, I think he is the best player in the team with Alfie and I also know there is no loyalty in football but remember when he signed for us, there were Sunderland fans a plenty calling him useless, good riddance and will drive him to Charlton myself, since then he has progressed greatly here to the extent that he was given the captain's armband, now after a good last season and a half he wants away! I know all the arguments about basket case club and all that but a bit of loyalty wouldn't go a miss, I am sure he has been made a very good offer and it gets on my threepenny bits when you take a player out of a shite situation they were in, improve them and suddenly they want off, I'll don the old battered tin hat now whoever has got it
It wasn't that long ago Stockley was saying he wanted to stay at the club for life and people were hoping we rejected any bids from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, and by the next window the fans were celebrating an offer coming in from Fleetwood. You can guarantee there are people who were berating the club for not getting Fraser that same summer who would be applauding him getting shipped out this month as well. There's as much loyalty from players as there is from us I reckon.16 -

I’m kinda with Dubai in that we have to suck it up. What are the other options? There are more dodgy owners than good ones these days. There is no knight in shining armour who is going to swoop in.
I hate the fact that we’re now another a project for another set of owners, but that is the case and would have been the case for anyone that took over the club.12 -
@fenaddick
I wasn't seriously suggesting to close the thread. Evidently by my posts I think they're full of absolute shit and desperate for fans not to kick up a fuss.
I am glad you enjoy the thread, I do as well. I was just pointing out the shit that was thrown up yesterday suggests we are in for the very driest of January's.
@ValleyGary
What does wobble mean, is that some sort of suggestion I'm flapping in how I've posted or?

Ah the rumours thread, any actual rumours? No. I'll try again later, I guess....

Coventry would be one hell of a signing and a show of ambition for next season. Like others have said it’s getting that first one over the line which shows other players that we are looking to build.10

From Luton today
Luton boss Rob Edwards believes that midfielder Louie Watson’s battle to get into the Charlton Athletic side on a regular basis this term can be a good thing for the youngster’s development
Sounds like he not going back

And if we have to wait another 2 windows I hate to see what state we are in by Summer 2025.
I am voting with my feet. I had a ST all the way through the Duchatelet years (even when some were boycotting) and through ESI & Sandgaard. All I have seen & heard are empty promises. The team has gone backwards since relegation and the only bright spark has been Alfie May and CBT. The former is now being played out of position and the latter likely to be sold because he wont sign a new contract.
I now pick & choose my games and with recent results/performances I am unlikely to go much more this season. To get my back down to the Valley (and then buying a ST) I have to see better players being brought in & then played in their rightful positions. Not players with injury issues who haven't played all season.

I'd love the Coventry deal to get across the line , would be a real statement move to get someone like him on a permanent. Of course it's naturally going to open up the can of worms about him being potentially Dobbos replacement. I'd be more surprised if it didn't facilitate a move out for Scott Fraser.1

Scott has had since August to identify players to bring in. Over the months it has become obvious that some players are not up to it /injured and so need replacing. When do YOU think these players should be signing - Jan 2nd or Feb 1st ? And do YOU think a player who has not had a single minute of playing time this season is the right player to bring in.
