Let's judge them on who actually signs.
Not on who we are allegedly linked with.0 -
Coventry and JCH and my eyebrows are raised. Both would be massive statements.8

Please, please, please can we have for the next window two Charlton transfer threads:
1. Transfer Rumours - Summer 2024 (for rumours only).
2. Transfer Discussions - Summer 2024 (for general transfer chat and suggestions etc)
You know it makes sense.7 -

Simple as that.
Same goes for CBT too.
If we were top 6, winning games, with a real chance of promotion and the club made them a good offer, they'd sign.
I wouldn't re-sign for us based on the current footballing prospects at CAFC
They must be crazy though- what with Appleton being the best coach in the world and all that...
Super hero Varney isn't coming to the rescue.. suck it up, and support! We have little option..
If it's not hard how comes we're making it look quite difficult being a top half Division 3 side??...
He said failure stops now
Methven said you only have to be better than previous owners to dramatically cut losses and establish ourselves in the top half of the Championship.
They were completely wrong or they aren't very good at their jobs.
Of course it would take time regardless of the manager etc
Right now though, we are lightyears away.
As I said, it won't happen over night!
We are not looking to scrap the bottom of the barrel now.
And if we have to wait another 2 windows I hate to see what state we are in by Summer 2025.
I am voting with my feet. I had a ST all the way through the Duchatelet years (even when some were boycotting) and through ESI & Sandgaard. All I have seen & heard are empty promises. The team has gone backwards since relegation and the only bright spark has been Alfie May and CBT. The former is now being played out of position and the latter likely to be sold because he wont sign a new contract.
I now pick & choose my games and with recent results/performances I am unlikely to go much more this season. To get my back down to the Valley (and then buying a ST) I have to see better players being brought in & then played in their rightful positions. Not players with injury issues who haven't played all season.0 -

On top of the last two he's had some say in, plus this one?
FIVE WINDOWS?
We are really setting the bar low aren't we
window 1. He was working for sandgaard under a completely different brief. The owner wanted out and wanted to reduce costs. From sandgaards point of view, last January was a good window.
window 2. What percentage of the window had gone when the new owners took control? How many realistic targets had moved on by that stage?
window 3. This is the first full window Scott has had.Summary. As this is his first full window and I'll judge him come February.
Scott has had since August to identify players to bring in. Over the months it has become obvious that some players are not up to it /injured and so need replacing. When do YOU think these players should be signing - Jan 2nd or Feb 1st ? And do YOU think a player who has not had a single minute of playing time this season is the right player to bring in.
There are lots of unknowns at this stage
If on the 1st Feb, we have signed 4 18 year olds on loan = failure
4 loans, two perms = undecided
2 loans and 4 perms = probably happy.
I have no clue whether a player with zero minutes is good or bad because sports science is out side of my knowledge. As a punt, bad, but I have no science behind that and will trust the footballing people at Charlton to make the correct decision. Although, i get why trust levels are low.2 -
Sam Walker gone so either Isted back soon or we might see links to keepers4

FIVE WINDOWS?

They took over the club on the 21st July
You would be no good if they were your specialist subject on Mastermind. You would be playing serious catch up on the general knowledge round
https://www.charltonafc.com/news/global-football-partners-purchase-charlton-athletic
(I didn't realise that they completed the takeover well before the transfer window shut - makes a mockery of this season !)
They may have had 6 weeks in the summer but how many weeks were lost? how many targets had already moved by the time they took control?
I stand by my earlier comment that this is the window where I start judging them.
Noise levels have been good, actions/results are seriously lagging at this stage.
What would you do if a big mortgage broker sounded you out and said that in 6 weeks time they will make you a wonderful offer but cannot anything in writing, progress things for 6 weeks with zero guarantee that things materialise, compared with another good offer which is on the table now and will happen. What offer would you take?2 -
I must admit unless we are sending back Watson/Chem Campbell I'm surprised we're linked with loans. Would have thought as and when Pan is fit (anyone seen a mention of when that could be?) We'll have all 5 loans in the squad.0

Wow, you really just told other fans who aren't happy to "suck it up"
Unbelievable.
Suck it up and try to support the club, and see what happens or don't go and spend your hard earned cash.
Think last night they delivered a message, they know they haven't got it right, they have made mistake, they know it isn't an easy fix, they are trying to correct the wrongs, they have owners who are willing to invest money in the playing side, and non-playing side.
I am frustrated as much as anyone how poor this season has been, how we have left ourselves short, how things don't seem to be going to plan this window.. But need to give them a chance, personally,
I don't we will see the really benefits for another 18months - 2 years in my opinion, it is a project!

follett said:The true test of our recruitment is who we go for next, if JCH is a no go. If we go back in for someone like Humphry's great but if we end up with a last minute youngster on loan or an out of form player returning from injury who can be picked up a bit cheaper, the signs aren't good.0

But but but..... you said on Monday it was going to be a busy week!!!!
Quickest reversal since your last one!
It is football, things are always changing, players change minds more times than hot dinners.. Not everything does go to plan when recruiting players, and that's not only Charlton, that is clubs up and down the country!!
I am going to leave it here now..2 -

We surely have to accept that the club is serious about signing Coventry and Clark-Harris otherwise what’s the point of discussion. Do we really think the club are so corrupt that they make offers and waste their own time talking with clubs, agents and players just to appease us but with no intention of following through ? That’s frankly absurd. If that’s what you believe then I have no words to offer. Just how easy do you think it is to sign good quality players when up against Championship clubs and players with good choices like JCH. It would appear that the package we’ve both offered to West Ham and Coventry are at least as good as Sheff Wednesday but at the end of the day we can’t make a player sign. Once we get one quality signing over the line it will become easier but I don’t understand the anger of some because we haven’t signed either yet.31

I feel sorry for Bradford, Harry Lewis is a pretty decent keeper and one of their better players. To lose a keeper like that for Sam Walker as a replacement is pretty shoddy. Bradford criminally underachieving at present and can't imagine their fans being too happy about that.
Good signing for Carlisle genuinely, solid bet for promotion next year if they do go down, seem to have to found a bunch of owners that fancy a go at it. However long that lasts who knows2 -

I hope it's us that's signing him and basically said look either way you're playing in League 1 next year, you either do it in London on a higher wage, or in Sheffield on a lower wage, your choice9
