Our defence has been leaking poor goals all season and so we finally get new defenders through the door and... Appleton leaves them on the bench. As if we were going to go away to Burton and suddenly, by magic, have the same players put in a stirling defensive performance.
I think it puts to bed this idea that our poor defending that has been the midfield's fault. I have read posts saying: "I think everyone will be shocked how good our defenders look with better players in front of them." In important defensive situations, they choose poorly.
Why hasn't Appleton got the new CBs on the pitch? He's clueless. Ness is non-league. Jones is woefully out of form. Tennai is clearly not good enough.
We needed 4 points MINIMUM from these two games, but really needed 6, now both impossible. Apples has been allowed to build a team here, the excuses have run out.7 -
I am beginning to hate Appleton with a passion. I hate the formations he plays, I hate his passive persona, I hate the way he dresses, I hate the way he stands with his hands in his pockets, I hate his dour northern accent. There are probably other things I hate but I’m so angry at the moment I can’t think of them. He has to go and he has to go now despite what Bouffant Jim Rodwell says … Good night31

Oh and whoever decided to appoint Appleton should f-off too.1

If only. Need a winner. And one would stick a rocket over the weaklings in our team or ship them out.

Didn't want him when he was linked. Had enough of him now. Appleton out.13
-
The most damning thing is how much worse MA made us after the half time break.
What does he even do as a manager during the game?
Team talks clearly uninspiring. Subs made way too late.6 -

He has to go. Emotionless, dull, can’t motivate and wants a pay off.2

Bleak.1 -
Ness was better than Jones today...11

What’s the point waiting until Tuesday? Get him gone now. He’s had more than enough time.9

You'd hope they'd have come out all guns blazing after a decent first half. Instead whatever Appleton said seemed to suck all the life out of them.0

Appleton has to go.4

I'm not commenting on that! The defence should not include Ness or currently Jones.
Now I'm just waiting for @RonnieMoore and his incisive thoughts....which will be along the lines of "crap ref, crap pitch, only one game with new formation blah blah blah" oh and we were unlucky! The one thing he can't do is blame the most atrocious player ever CBT! 🤬1 -

What I can't work out is why in the first half we constantly played down the left when the pitch there was woeful. The players should have seen that but Appleton definitely should have.
Lastly, I don't think some of the players are playing for him anymore. We just seem to lack desire and direction making it far too slow1 -
Is this our longest winless run in the third tier?0

I do hope @LouisMend starts his interview off by a long rubbing together of hands and then a semi-aggressive “Evening Michael, what’s the excuse today then?”14

First time I've been concerned about relegation.
Useless manager. Needs to go today.
Defence needs to go and getting a top backline and keeper should be the recruitment focus between now and start of the season. We can get a couple of creative players too and then we should have a good enough side to compete with the utter dross in this league.
Combination of a shit manager and shit keystone cop defenders/ limited keeper is why we're at the bottom of League one looking over our shoulder.
Only Fleetwood have worse form than us past 5 games and only them and lincoln over last 10. That's nonsense. Get him gone now and get some non sunday league defenders in. Shitters.

No wins in nine. In league one. Let it sink in. No clean sheet in what, 14? 1 win in what is it now, 11 or 12?As said the other day despite all the mitigating circumstances that some want to trot out about injuries etc this is a poor league, all but one or two of the last 12 games have been against ‘lesser’ opposition, we should have picked up far more points than we have. Our defending has been atrocious but nothing changes, what do they do all week?
Even if we win Tuesday long term we are going nowhere under Appleton, well not anywhere upwards, I just don’t see the point in giving him more time. If we want to mount a serious promotion bid next season, and activity this window suggests we do, get a decent manager in NOW so we can have a good finish to this season and optimism going into the next.
Michael Duff please.11 -
So that's all our hopes of a good win gone for a Burton4

The players can't be arsed when it seems clear to me the manager can't be arsed either.4 -
28th November... Last win.

Why can't we play for more than 45 minutes? Why do heads drop so readily?
Trying very hard to positive here, everything went against us in the first half, perhaps, but considering how much possession we had the problem was that not enough of it was in their half. But even so, we should never have gone in 1-0 down, so at that point the manager has to fire the players up in the break.
Instead, we came out looking lethargic, and go ahead to another nothing goal. And at that point you know it's all over, because this is a team who have forgotten how to fight and how to win.
Bakinson was decent, Coventry was a little disappointing, Ladapo did ok with little service. Jones cost us another goal.
Oh god, here come Appleton on Charlton Live...

Can I presume anyone who honestly thought we were mid table safe has now understood the realism of our situation?!
This is a relegation battle. End of.
We will go down with no change.
And none of this ‘if we don’t win Tuesday bollocks’. That’s too late.
Havjng players at your disposal like that and losing at Burton is a sign that there may be a problem at management level.
Change. Now.
Ive said for ages we need a dose of Charlton feel good…. Even to just keep us up. Guarantee we would get enough of a bounce with a Powell appointment to stay up and that’s all that matters. Or even a Bowyer (and I was against that).
We need a short term emotion boost to stay up and we need it now.13 -
Why play a wing back formation without proper wing backs. Our 2 offered very little outlet and Coventry forced to play side ways although disappointed with his performance. I guess training must be passing the ball around in our own half which, we have mastered. Tuesday is going to be the crunch for some.0

Said last week he will take us into a relegation battle. This week I think we can safely say we are in one.Anyone who thinks we are not in one needs to give their head a wobble.I tried to be positive first half and thought we was unlucky.Second half we was a shower of shit so I’d love to know what he said at half time.Too much of a disconnect now as well between the fans and manager, that’s why I now think he desperately has to go.4
