  • Get Aneke in as Coach/Part time player.
  • Should never have been hired.

Serious questions should be asked at how he was appointed and who vouched for him. There's a reason he's been regarded as a joke for years.
    This.... Quote of the season.
  • The fact he was given tonight was ridiculously stupid.

We’ve just thrown away 3 points for no reason at all.
Probably on the assumption that there wasn't enough time to implement meaningful changes tactically... Probably wrong still.

Next appointment is boom or bust, it can’t continue like this.

    Adkins: 7 months.
    Jackson: 6 months.
    Garner: 6 months.
    Holden: 8 months.
    Appleton: 4 months.

Spot on. We need to get the next one right. So tired of dead seasons.
  • If anyone EVER puts that fucking picture of Appleton up again .. I’m setting @blackpool72 onto you
  • He’s surely gotta be down there on the pecking order with Karel Fraeye as worst manager/head coach we’ve ever had
Possibly, he's certainly the one who came across as not giving a toss that he was our manager. Anyway onto the next disaster...
  • Makes the shenanigans of Monday even more bizarre. Should never have got tonight. Another precious three points down the drain. Bye you useless fuckwit.

Thank goodness they’ve pulled the trigger at last, nothing to see here now close the thread and let’s move on.

Errr don't look at the new coach thread then mate
  • Quite possibly the worst manager we’ve ever had, certainly the worst in my time.  Karel Frayere wasn’t a manager and quite literally a lamb to the slaughter, and Les Reed took over and failed at the highest level.  Appleton has been coaching/managing since 2008 and should’ve delivered so much more.

Disastrous appointment that many said at the time.

I’m at a loss to understand where next.  There’s no way he could’ve continued, but the se7 regime has been a disaster so far, you can’t argue that it hasn’t.  For all the intent and recent money spent, we’ve got yet another bunch of clowns running us, and Methven Scott et al, are the latest wallies to have a go at running the club.

I haven’t a clue who the next manager could be.  We’ve tried the unknown lower league no-marks in Garner and Holden, and the League One jobber in Appleton.

If it weren’t for the fact that we’re perilously close to the drop zone, I’d say take our time.

Disaster of a season that is firmly fitting as it’s been a disastrous few years.

  • Deserved at least until the end of the season...

...like feck he did. Wrong man at the wrong club at the wrong time and, sadly, proved most of us right.

Saw the Oxford result and he's gutted
  • Possibly to late.
  • We need a manager with a bit of fight and passion in my opinion. A bit of a shit house.

Just asked ChatGPT who our next manager should be:

    "User
Who should be the next Charlton Athletic manager?

    ChatGPT
As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don't have information on the current manager of Charlton Athletic or any recent changes. Additionally, I do not have real-time data or updates on specific individuals who could be the next manager.

To find the latest information on the Charlton Athletic manager position, I recommend checking recent sports news, the official Charlton Athletic website, or reliable sports news outlets. They often provide the most up-to-date information on managerial changes and potential candidates."

    Including 1 caretaker, we've had 6 managers since Jan22.

    ChatGPT needs to shag Wiki.

In the ten years since Chris Powell left, we’ve had 13 managers (15 if you count Damien Matthew and Kevin Nugent, but they were both interim managers)
Karl Robinson and Lee Bowyer account for 4 and a half of those years.
So in the remaining 5 and a half years - 11 managers.

    Pretty incredible really.
  • Appleton's just stormed past me outside the ground, looks like he's heading for Makro's car park

If he's as good at fighting as he is at managing a ten year old girl would knock him out.
    This one?

  • Think a complete new senior management team is required, sack the lot of them. Nearly 65 years of supporting Charlton what a shambles.
  • No idea of his personal financial situation. But, revelling in anybody losing their job seems wrong. But, it was obvious early days it wasn’t going in the direction we wanted.  Iv no idea who who bring in, but let’s just hope our club stalwarts Pearce/Euell can with pure enthusiasm turn this round over the next couple of games. In old hero’s we trust……
  • Thank heavens.
    What a mistake he was.
Curbs and Brownie dream team anyone ?
  • He joins Andy Nelson and Jose Riga as the only managers to be sacked twice.

If it makes you feel any better he’ll be getting a substantial portion, if not all, of his remaining contract paid up.

Surely it comes down to economics. Wasn't Bows on something like £400k. I doubt Appleton was on a quarter of that.

Curbs said, if they can pay £200k for a player, then pay what it costs to get a good manager, even one in a job.

The next move from our board will be as telling as the transfer market.
