Elliot - 6 Will have to take a deck chair out with him at this rate - Solid when called upon
Richardson - 7 Good performance - not really troubled
Dailly -7 Strong, reliable, steady game
Llera -7.5 He will become a cult hero if he aint careful - Good left peg
Youga -6.5 He tries too hard - Some nice touches though
Sam -7 Cross it! Cross it! FFS Cross it!
Semedo -9 MOM - Playing two divisions below his level IMO
Racon -6.5 Not in game as much as should be
Shelvey -8 Another great game-shows determination and balls
Bailey -7 Better showing than at Orient
Burton - 8 Great running and lasting longer as each game comes
Wagstaff -8 Great cameo - Confidence booster - Well done spotty!

[cite]Posted By: PaddyP17[/cite]Semedo - 7.5. Good game, though I still think that all he does is win the ball (he does it well) and make a simple pass.

So all he does is win the ball and pass it to one of our players? Thats awful, should be dropped..

Yeah, that Makelele bloke was rubbish too.

Never ceases to amaze me how some fans fail to recognise such contributions. A mate who I sometimes go to games with (he doesn't log on here, I hope) can only seem to appreciate a midfield player unless he can dribble past at least 5 of the opposition. Mind you, he also once criticised a linesman for not getting over the halfway line!! (Sorry D if you are reading this)

Semedo is doing his job very well and must be one of the players in League One in his role. We need someone to do it and if he was taken out of the team and replaced with say Matt Spring, more fans would notice the difference.

Brunello: So all he does is win the ball and pass it to one of our players? Thats awful, should be dropped..

(Just as an aside, the quotey thing doesn't work from one page to another...)

Ah, but when he receives it from another Charlton player, he sometimes freezes up and cannot move it around again. He also gets booked too often, and can't dribble. If he had another dimension he'd be absolute quality.

What can't he do? Shoot, play a pass over 15-20 yards, dribble... Quite a lot.

Yes, he wins the ball and that is his niche and he does this excellently! But he does need that extra dimension. Perhaps being able to keep the ball once he's won it, rather than offloading it each time?

Whoever said "That Makelele bloke was crap as well", do you need a white stick, guide dog and tinted glasses? I made him an equal Man of the Match! *Facepalms*

But Semedo can improve... he may even be more at home in the centre of the defence, where he played for Portugal's U21s.

My opinion from commentary and highlights CB's nothing needs to be said

Elliot - 6.5 - Not a lot to do but what he did do he done well!
Richardson - 7 - solid from what i heard and good shot
    Dailly - 7.5
    Llera - 7.5
Youga - 7 Sounded tidy and some neat passes
Sam - 7 - apparently tired early but imo sounded to play really quite well
Semedo - 8.5 from what i heard stopped every attack that came to him.
Racon - 7.5 sounded solid as usual and tidy passes
Shelvey - 7 sounded good heard his name alot bit unfortunate not to score with that cracking shot
Bailey - 7 normal porformance from the cap'n from what i heard
Burton - 8 solid pity he tried a lob instead of simple side foot shot
Wagstaff - 7 Nice goal not long enough on pitch to rate higher

Dazzler, how can you award marks out of ten when you weren't even there? Highlights and commentary only give you a partial picture.

Don't worry, they won't be counted. At least he is making it clear he wasn't there.

Why does he though? We're not in the Premiership any more. Back then at one point Parker was our ball winner, he could dribble and score the odd goal, but he's is/was a few levels above Semedo.

Kishishev is a better comparison, he couldn't really dribble, he had the odd decent long range shot, but that was about it.

We don't need him to win the ball and then dribble up the pitch, he's got 3 much more attacking midfielders near him, and then Shelvey and Burton ahead, not to mention full backs that will give decent support when going forward.

If he could dribble and pick out great passes he wouldn't still be here playing League One. It's not like we've even got any decent competition, Spring can't do Semedo's job, Bailey and Racon can't do it as they're too useful going forward to limit them like that. I really think you're expecting too much from him, who are we going to get to play CM that is significantly better? You could get someone more comfortable on the ball that also scores goals, but you would lose a lot of the defensive work he does.

Hi Paddy - as Sco, says above ....... if Semedo could be the total footballer you expect, he wouldn't be playing for Charlton in the Third Division, that's for sure.

But the job he does, he does very well. He's the anchor man, sitting in front of the defence, protecting that space, holding the shape of the team, winning that ball and playing the simple pass to bring more creative team mates into the game.

If he started marauding up the pitch on mazy dribbles, leaving his position exposed, you might be applauding ...... but his manager, and team mates relying on him to do his own job properly would be quite rightly remonstrating with him.

Team shape and team discipline is vital in a successful winning side.
  • Like others I have followed Alex Song since he left us and he seems to have added a bit of offensive nous to his play and can pick out a pass, but he's not a regular under Wenger. Hopefully Jose can progress as well.
