  • Keith Peacock in 62-63?
    Yes!
  • 1920-21 Kosher Goodman , I'm sure Paul Baker saw him play.
  • Could be wrong but Mike Bailey and Ron Saunders in the 60s
  • 1920-21 Kosher Goodman , I'm sure Paul Baker saw him play.
He did play that season, but wasn't top scorer. The best he did was second highest scorer in both 1922/23 and 1923/24.

  • Surprised no one has got 46/47 yet. The rest are understandable.
  • Yes Ron Saunders is the last answer for the 60s top scorer.
Also the only top Charlton player to manager and get a club into European Cup and go onto to win it the same season.  Aston Villa he was manager for a couple of rounds. Then Tony Walters took over.   Off the top of my head.

    Chris Duffy?
  • Chris Duffy?
    Correct!

  • Syd O'Linn for one of the earlier 1950/s ones?
Good guess. He was second top scorer in 48/49, and 49/50 but never top scorer.

George Tadman and Harold Hobbis would be in there around the 1930’s

  • The other two that come to mind for the 1950s are Tommy Evans (not sure about first name) and Gordon Hurst, who I think appeared in someone's testimonial at The Valley at the age of 40-odd.

I'll give you that John Evans and Gordon Hurst - Joint top scorers in 50/51

Wow, I didn't know that. I wouldn't have got John for John Evans - I was thinking Tommy, Jimmy, Billy....

I was born in 1953 but my father and older brother had a scrapbook of Charlton stuff, which got handed down to me as my brother wasn't particularly interested. I can remember more about the 50s, 60s and 70s than anything since!

    Great quiz, @DyerConsequences.
  • Jimmy Gauld (later key player in the 60’s match fixing scandal) ?

    Great quiz, @DyerConsequences.
I started going in the 80s, but have a decent knowledge of the 60s and 70s as everyone I went with for about the first 15 years was a generation older, so used to listen to their tales quite a lot :)

Managed to pick up a bit of 40s and 50s stuff that they mentioned their dad's etc had told them about, but it's not until I really started getting into our history myself that I would say I really had anything above a basic knowledge of that period or before.
  • Jimmy Gauld (later key player in the 60’s match fixing scandal) ?
Unfortunately never managed to be top scorer.
  • I'll give it till the morning and then if no one has got the right answers I'll reveal the remaining ones then.

Got a few ideas for more quizzes, if people are interested, but I might change it to one a week. These were 2 I had to hand, but will give me time to prepare them, and I don't want to bore everyone  :D

Ok - he certainly had a good ratio for us

For those that don’t know about him - look up English Football betting scandal 1960’s - Jimmy Gauld was certainly a scoundrel - great book written many years ago by Simon Inglis called ‘Soccer in the Dock’ is worth a read - big section in the book about that scandal
  • Came to this quiz too late but I had Chris Duffy ready to go with our most famous goal ever and the first person to go ape after scoring a goal in a final.
  • Interesting if you go back 60 years the only mid fielders to be top scorers were Nicky Bailey, Johnnie Jackson and Lee Bowyer.
  • If a cowboy rides into Charlton on Tuesday and only stays 2 nights, how can he also ride out of Charlton on Tuesday
