Fleetwood Town vs Charlton Athletic
Saturday 16th March 2024 - 3pm Kick-Off
Referee: Tom Reeves
Introduction
18th March 2023... its madness to think that we've pretty much had to wait a whole calendar year, three Managers, an endless amount of players, and a grand total of 47-League games - Thats the last time for anyone who is currently lost and confused (easily done reading my drivel), that we won back to back games in League One, until last Saturday of course when we finally put Carlisle United to the sword with a 3-2 victory - Only four times since 2021-22 have we won a whopping three games on the trot... Dizzy times as a Charlton fan.
The Opposition
Name: Fleetwood Town (22nd) - Manager: Charlie Adam
Ground: Highbury Stadium
Previous League Result: Fleetwood 0-0 Bristol Rovers
Trying to stop us from what would be an impressive feat in recent seasons, are another side struggling for their lives... and as has been discussed on CharltonLife, they really are struggling for their very existence as a Football club - Even survival may just delay the inevitable, given the trouble their owners have been in.
However our trip to the Lancashire coast wont be an easy one - Fleetwood themselves are in the middle of an "impressive" run, having lost just the twice since the beginning of February, with only one of those coming at Highbury Stadium, no not that one... (Always need to get that one in) - On the other hand they've only won three games, so are turning into fellow draw specialists at present, but back to back 0-0's in their last two games have meant that Charlie Adam is turning his side into a difficult proposition to break down.
Leading the Fleetwood ranks will be Jayden Stockley who has ten goals to his name this campaign, with seven of those coming since the appointment of Charlie Adam as Manager; Stockley won't be the only ex-Addick in this Cod Army (Gettit) with Gavin Kilkenny, Brandon Wiredu and Junior Quitirna all potentially up against their previous employer.
Charlton Team News
The Addicks ranks have been surprisingly bolstered in recent weeks, with Connor Wickham joining on a short term deal - It was the type of signing that appears out of the blue, and having been training at Sparrows Lane for a number of weeks, was able to make a useful cameo last time out... Joining him on a short term deal looks to be Kazenga Lua-Lua, with the Addicks awaiting International Clearance, so could well be another to appear on the bench come tomorrow afternoon.
Elsewhere and there is no stopping the partnership of Alfie May and Daniel Kanu; the two Strikers are building a nice little partnership and have seven goals between them since the arrival of Nathan Jones - Thats one area of the pitch I doubt we'll see broken up any time soon.

Can't see two centre halves on the bench, I'd replace one with Asiimwe. Other than that can't really disagree.1

Of course would switch Lua-Lua with Bakinson if Clearance doesn't come through in time, but be surprised if Kazenga AND Campbell aren't there, if Jones wants to switch things up and play with Wingers at some point in matches.1 -
One defeat in 6 at Fleetwood2
-
Edmonds-Green gives us the added advantage of 12 players on the team sheet, whenever I view the CL previews!

I'd give Anderson the week off - not even on the bench and play Bakinson
think we'll win this one 1-3 and continue the decent form, Kanu and May both on the scoresheet again4 -
Good preview FA.... Can't see any changes, keep a winning team and all that but I'll take a point to keep the run going... Would've gone for a win but Stockley bothers me so avoid a defeat.
Have to love Nathan though, last week he said Wickham was a good human and now he's sticking Lua Lua on the moon!
We've certainly got 'different'.

I think we will win this one either 3-1 or 3-2. Stockley will obviously get on the scoresheet for them but I still think we will have too much2
-
Fleetwood are on a good run of form currently (so are we though). Expect a very close game with a draw most likely and Stockley on the scoresheet.0
-
Going to this - 8.30am train from Euston tmrw morning - going to be a long day, albeit we are staying overnight in Lytham St Anne’s
Stockley will be a danger, but I going for a Charlton win

Stockley will be in Jones's pocket and we will win 0-2 with an Alfie double, can't see anything other than a good day out for us...NJ's Red Army marches forward...👍3
-
I suspect there'll be a midfielder on the bench in the form of Bakinson.
Two wingers and two strikers seems excessive, especially as Kanu and May will play at least sixrty mintes before either are subbed.
I'd like to think we'll win this, but then I thought we'd hammer Carlisle but we didn't.
Lua-Lua is the brother-in-law of Yann Kermorgant.

Cafc didn't have a midweek match so other than training, Anderson, who is as fit as a butchers dog will either play or be on the bench depending on availability of fit midfielders.
Jones keeps getting decisions right despite what is said by fans; long may that last.
Fleetwood have only lost 2 in 11 matches so it will be a battle Royal on a rustic* pitch where the must win onus is on the home team.
* Quote by Nathan.

My only fear with Stockley is his heading ability, have we got a CB who can match him in that case. He used to be good in the air in defence as well, assume he will not be marking Alfie or Daniel at corners 😁0
-
Draw imo, 1-1.1
-
Going for another win here. Another 2-1. May double.0

In the pre match interview Nathan Jones said the pitch would be ‘rustic’.
Great use of words I thought.
I was also pleased to hear him say a few words about the opposition. Suggests to me his planning is more thorough than it was under Appleton, and under Holden too.
Last time I thought like this was contemplating the excellent way Anthony Hayes approached that Brighton 0-0 last season. I always like to think our managers have tried to suss out the opposition a bit, loads of other managers do it to us.

Another difficult game at a difficult ex non league tight pitch / ground but with NJ and the squad we now have, we should have enough to get the job done, come away with the points and continue to build momentum for next season - COYR !!1

Fleetwood 2 - Charlton 1
Reminder to one and all that we’ve not suddenly become Real Madrid.4 -
I would have rested Anderson for one of the previous two games, but as we've had a week off, he should be fresher now.
Slightly ridiculous that one of Jones, Hector, REG, Thomas or Gillesphey probably won't even make the bench.0 -
I like that kind ridiculousness!6
-
We've never kept a clean sheet at Fleetwood and given our defensive record I don't see that changing.
However with only Carlisle having conceded more than them and our attacking options I think we find a way to win. 2-1 to Charlton.0 -
Cert draw …. 2-20
-
All this optimism, blue skies rising majestically, plans coming together, every 5 o'clock on a Saturday skipping around the living room with yer skiddies on your head because the Addicks won... It's totally unsustainable, isn't it?
1-3 to the Addicks.0 -
An entertaining 3-2 away win. The Headmaster will be on the score sheet no doubt about that and will look more mobile than we can recollect, nevertheless our pocket rocket poundland bradley cooper is in the mood and will notch another couple in his pursuit of EA Sports Team of the Season Ultimate Team fame. Oh and the League One golden boot!
Feel the pressure is off a bit, though Nathan’s frantic antics on the sideline will show he’s having none of that.
Will be there with our amazing away Red Army 🔴⚪️3
