Rather silly question..

But can anybody tell me what on earth is the difference between a raisin, a sultana & a currant? Or are they just different names for the same thing - a dried grape?

I think they are made from different varieties of grape.

a raisin you find inside chocolate
a sultana you find inside a cake
a currant you find inside a bun
  • Options
a raisin- a grape of any of various sweet varieties dried in the sun or by artificial means, often used in cookery
    a sultana - a small, seedless raisin
a currant - a small seedless raisin, produced chiefly in California and in the Levant, and used in cookery and confectionery

so yep, all are dried grapes.

So not only are they all dried grapes, but they are all types of raisin? Now I am really confused.
