bullied into it by all you "jobsworths"
Sadly we have people out there who purchase match day and season tickets not for their age group and the club have put a stop to it.

Blame those people for you being inconvenienced

Bolloxbolder.Obviously having an irony bypass.Of course I appreciate the advice given on here .You are however right in one respect in that my life has by definition been  made sadder  by choosing charlton as my team.
Thanks to all those on here who guided me gently towards making the right decision.
    No bullying involved.

I spotted the irony in your comment @timken and there was obviously no bullying involved, which saved me setting up a meeting with @Admin and another trek to a Mayfair hotel. ;)
But it maybe helpful if you add :) to your comment when making a jokey type post. ;)

Agreed. But on a serious note whilst I started off a bit indignant that they should ask for proof of my age the feedback I got from the lifers was instrumental in getting me to "not die on a pointless hill.
The final straw came when I told my wife that I was in dispute with charlton as they had asked for proof of age and that no one was supporting my position and she just said "that's because they are right and you are wrong"(she then mumbled "as always under her breath with a smile on her face

Exactly the conclusion I came to @Rothko

In a normal 46 game season there are six midweek matches scheduled. That’s 6/20.

In a normal 46 game season there are four international weekends. Those matches will either be eligible for TV with a 3pm kick off, or moved to midweek. That’s 10/20.

In a normal 46 game season there are two games on bank holidays over the holiday period (usually Boxing Day and New Years Day). That’s 12/20.

In a normal 46 game season there are two games scheduled over the Easter bank holiday weekend. That’s 14/20.

Leaves six games (home and away) that will be moved to 12:30 kick offs. So realistically you’re looking at around 2-6 lunch time kick offs at the Valley across the whole season, depending on luck of the draw and how well the team is performing.

Those 6 games moved, plus international games moved to a Tuesday, plus bank holidays, plus rail strikes makes attending football a absolute bollock ache for people outside London. Not excuses, just facts that people have to consider when paying £450 for the tickets.

I got my senior citizen discount 3 seasons ago now, and yes had to prove my age at that time.
Renewed in April and had no issues got the confirmation email that the money taken.
So I guess those being asked for proof are first time applicants for the concession tickets or were nor required to when they first applied for an age concession.

Oh blimey, I've got less than 6 months left on my passport............. does that mean I'll have to apply for a new passport to get into games on my season ticket after December?  :#

    Yeh, spot on @shine166
Public transport shenanigans over the last year or two have been horrendous and seriously made me question if it was worth the hassle anymore

You are buying a season ticket at a concessionary rate - the fact that they have never asked for proof of age when buying single tickets in the past doesn't mean that they shouldn't now. Perhaps it is too much of an administrative burden (it shouldn't be) when buying a single over 65 ticket, but you are buying 23 tickets in one go so I would have been disappointed if they hadn't asked. I've been going on and off for 60 years and two years ago I managed to reach the ripe old age of 65, so I could save a bit on my season ticket. They rightly asked me for proof of age and once provided they need never ask again - I've renewed twice since then and it automatically presents me with a over 65 season ticket.

Why is it such a problem?

    Because he’s 24!

How many season tickets sold so far @clive ?

We usually hear about it when numbers are good/up so I’m assuming there’s been a drop? (vs prior seasons)

CAST survey response to date and some anecdotal evidence would suggest ST sales have held up pretty well.

It would be interesting to see what’s happening at other clubs and whether there’s been any impact from the new tv deal.

Strange that we don't even remind fans of todays deadline or promote sales more.

    Been a very quiet May.

Don’t we usually know most of our friendly fixtures by now?

Assume either the comms team are on hols or we are delaying announcing those until we actually sign some players to play in them!

If that was the case the club the club probably would have mentioned it. The radio silence suggests otherwise.

How many fans completed the CAST survey  and how do those numbers compare to previous seasons ST surveys ?

Yep and then the TV will possibly move the times /days of them but not sure how much in advance TV scheduling has to be

So probably in the range of 840-880 as a guess what ‘nearly’ is

From what I can tell, the number of responses to recent year surveys have been:

    2023 - 1240
    2022 - 1100
    2021 - 1462
    2020 - 1369

This years survey response number is a big percentage drop (even if it does get to 1000). Let’s hope that’s not reflective of less enthusiasm for actually buying a ST

As linked above, the club have just posted on the official website and socials about the survey - that should help to boost numbers to over 1,000. It's only been open for a week so far and we usually run it for 2-3 weeks to get to the numbers above.

Though anyone who is familiar with data and statistics will be aware that the actual results for individual questions are unlikely to change dramatically after the first 100-200 responses.

Join 7,000 Addicks who have already got their season ticket to be a part of Nathan Jones’ red and white army for the 2024/25 campaign.

just had this email exchange with charlton about my season ticket. They took my money a few weeks ago.

    ello T A,

Thank you for purchasing a 2024/25 season ticket!

As you have purchased a concession ticket as part of your transaction (Under 11, Under 18, Under 21, Over 65), we're just emailing to let you know that before we can send your season ticket to you, you will need to provide proof of age to our Ticket Office.

Please send a photo/copy of your ID proving your age to tickets@cafc.co.uk. Please note, the ID provided must be a passport or birth certificate. We will then send an email back confirming that we have received your details.

If you believe you have already provided a sufficient, qualifying document, then please get in touch to let us know. Simply email the address above detailing what proof you used and when you sent/presented it to the Ticket Office for us to investigate further.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Charlton Athletic

    Dear SIrs
I have supported charlton since September 1967.
My first game was v Aston Villa .I attended games regularly and in our promotion year 1975 I went to all matches home and away.I was at our return to the valley match in December 1992 and
held a season ticket during the years 1998 to 2007 .Since then I have attended about 10 games a season. For the first time since 2012 I  feel optimistic and therefore decided to buy a season ticket.
If you refuse to send it without proof of age then
so be it .Just refund my money and I will attend
    occasionally as before.
I really can't be arsed with sending you my passport and/or birth certificate.
    Yours Faithfully
    T.A

Removed as just realized a bit late to the party .
  • Actually in addition to this last season i turnt up a few mins late to the game and the stewards asked to check my ticket (and the people with me) before letting us "swipe" in. They stopped me and asked me to provide them my student card aswell to prove i was a student. Fortunately i had it with me but was unsure, if they hadnt of let me in i might of complained but certainly not about having to send them a pic of it each time i buy a new ticket.

Yeah I get that, they should expressly say it as I didnt see it anywhere. As said though had it on me so no major issues.
