I will be the first to eat my words, if he averages a goal every 2 games like Alfie did.

Have the Mods jumped the gun, as its not on the OS yet? ;)

You've been on the Cannabis thread haven't you AFKA lol!
  • Cautiously optimistic that he’ll turn out to be a very clever replacement for May. But we shall see.

As long as he concentrates on his football as much as his golf….

Cawley is a proper journalist, he doesn’t say ‘Done Deal’ unless it’s a ‘done deal’ :-)

    joke :-)

He doesn't have to if he improves the team (not saying he will but I'll certainly give him a chance)

Good signing, I think the fact he was on the list mentioned a while back by Cawley, tells us the club was looking at alternatives for May. Think he can bag 15-20 in a good team and has bags of experience in this league and the league above.

Here’s here and Mays not so let’s reconcile ourselves to that and give him our support. Welcome Matt.

Not convinced but hope I'm wrong.

Might be a decent player but I hoped the 'we want players who will grow with us, can play in the Championship with us' was the aim, and at 33 I'm not convinced Godden fits that.

Would rather be looking to sign players with a view to a few years, not 2.

Fingers crossed he has 2 great years and I'm wrong.

I think he's a good signing potentially, bit worried about his age and lack of appearances recently, but we have limited resources. I am curious to know what the fee was,

Other than that, welcome to Charlton, Godden
  • Not sure what to make of this one… gutted may has left so I guess it was always going to be a bit hard for his replacement to really cause enthusiasm..

but let’s see, hopefully I get a nice helping of humble pie when he bags 20 this season…

His record last he played in L1 was 14 goals in 26 games, so actually just a bit BETTER than 1 in 2. If time has not been too cruel you may just be dining on that...

Good luck Matt Godden, I believe Kanu will benefit from having him around!
IIfyiu can hit the ground running and fingerscrossed Leaburn to come back we will have the start of a really good front line.
There are some goods signs of having leaders from the back line to the forward line running through the team.
Now lets pick up a half decent goalkeeper!
Staying positive for the build up to the season, a long way to go in building this team, but we are beginning to see the wòods through the 🌳

Good signing & I'll be happy with 1 in 3 tbh.

He certainly was a good player. Let’s hope he’s not in decline.
  • Let’s put out a welcome mat on the floor and when he scores we can have a Matt finish on the walls.

But not every signing can be like that. We need a few old heads with experience and know how.

I am happy with this signing. Always been impressed with Godden when I’ve seen him play. Don’t see him at all as an Alfie replacement, he’s a different type of player. He may not score as many goals as Alfie, no one probably will, but he will help the team in other ways and if that means the team as a whole is better then that’s great. Plus I’m happy to bow to Nathan Jones’s greater knowledge and if he prefers Godden to suit his system more than he does May then so be it. And I’m not concerned Godden didn’t get much game time last season as he had 12m Ellis Simms and Hadji Wright to contend with.

    Welcome Matty and good luck.

AFKA going rogue, announcing it just before Birmingham announce May, preventing total CL meltdown. Good modding

Once again a player who didn't perform at the level above stepping down to see out another year of his career.

Meanwhile our best player is off to opposition.

    So very Charlton.
