I imagine we're going to see an largely unchanged starting line up from the clash against Switzerland the other day.
Guehi in for Konsa I suspect, and Toney potentially in for Kane, but still expect to see the latter starting... So just the one change.

Come on England.
Keep Gakpo quiet and we’ve got a good chance3 -
Question is... Will Netherlands attack us, as they've shown for the majority of the Tournament, or will they copy Switzerland and it be a more cagey game as a whole, bit like when the Dutch played France.Callumcafc said:Come on England.

Think if they do the former; Saka will seriously benefit.0 -
Be the same team but possibly guehi in for Konsa and Shaw if fit in for tripp.
We will play a expansive game with the back 4 and Pickford having plenty of possession. This will be interrupted every ten minutes by a random and unforseen run by the likes of one of Bellingham, saka or manioo before foden cleans it up and passes it back to a defender. Repeat till we are a goal down then add 3 attacking players to create space and a Dutch defenders lack of concentration means one of our lot hits a worldie. Ensuring another 30 minutes of the same before either a lucky deflection or we go to penalties.6 -
Well that saves me watching the game tonightKarim_myBagheri said:Be the same team but possibly guehi in for Konsa and Shaw if fit in for tripp.

If only it was 2018. The world just seemed a better place. Sigh.

Would be harsh on Konsa is so. Thought he was brilliant against the SwissKarim_myBagheri said:Be the same team but possibly guehi in for Konsa and Shaw if fit in for tripp.

Have we played Netherlands in a major tournament since Euro96?
Considering we both generally reach the knockouts etc it feels like a bit of an anomaly, we've had Portugal, Italy, Germany, France etc multiple times since then.
Anyway, 2-0 Netherlands is my bet, hope I'm wrong but I think the poor performances will continue and our luck will run out with a better opponent.

Yeah but this is southgate so it will be "this is Guhei's shirt" and loyalty etc.Pelling1993 said:

Played them 9 times since '96 - 8 Friendlies & 1 Nations League game. 1 Win, 4 Draws, 4 LossesNorth Lower Neil said:Have we played Netherlands in a major tournament since Euro96?

England to win once more after another 'painful to watch' game and then go on to muller Spain (on pens after a 0-0) in the final .. Spain demand the return of Gibraltar after this humiliation4

I'd question that about us at least! Apparently we have played more knockout games under Gareth than we have under every manager combined from 68 onwards!North Lower Neil said:Have we played Netherlands in a major tournament since Euro96?

But since 96, which was the question, we've reached the knockout in 11 out of 14 tournaments, Netherlands 9 times, but we've not met each other.cantersaddick said:

Also - more teams = easier to reschedule knockout games, so I always find these stats about Southgate as a little misleading.
Until 96, reaching the Euros themselves was being in the Last 8 already etc.

I'm expecting to see the following
Pickford
Walker Stones Guehi Shaw
Mainoo Rice
Saka Bellingham Foden
Kane
I just hope changes are made earlier1 -
I can't understand the reasoning for playing Kane as the lone striker?
Van djyk and Ake will just suffocate him won't they? He never really had any legs, less so now. Why not stick Watkins on for a half to at least get their hamstrings stretching.
Surely Kane would get more chances if they stick him in as a 10 and let Watkins do the donkey work?2 -
He won't start Shaw.1
-
This, I'd rather start with Watkins let him get in behind and create space for Foden and Bellingham and have Kane on the bench for the 2nd half and the option of Toney for his extra physicality and both on the pitch for pens (if needed).carly burn said:I can't understand the reasoning for playing Kane as the lone striker?

I've read/heard somewhere since the weekend that Watkins has got 6 goals in the his last 6 games starting against Van Dijk...carly burn said:I can't understand the reasoning for playing Kane as the lone striker?

Food for thought!5 -
I am expecting to be infuriated and apoplectic with rage by 7 minutes in. There's something about a Southgate team that brings back some of the most forgettable Charlton performances, no shape, no plan, no ideas and a general lack of giving a fuck...
Nah! 2-0 England2 -
We might just shade it tonight, but can't see us beating Spain in the final. The semi final is just a say of execution really. Hope Im wrong!0

Not entirely sure that's true..JohnBoyUK said:

Watkins didn't score in their last meeting 3-30 -
"Ollie Watkins has 5 goals and 2 assists in 8 appearances versus Liverpool in the Premier League."0

Quite enjoying reading how we've spunked our way to a semi final and the rest of europe is sick of watching us. Brings me joy and long may it continue.

2-0 England1 -
Absolutely shitting myself now.
We are deservedly in the semi-finals, and all the noise about us being lucky, is just that. Holland are a different beast though. That front 3 concerns me, Gakpo could end up being player of the tournament, Depay is genuinely good for Holland, and I expect Malen to give our weak left side some issues.
Their keeper Verbruggen is having a stand out tournament, Simons is showing his excellent technical skills this tournament, Van Dijk is still probably one of the best centre backs in the world, and in good form currently. They aren't the Dutch of old, but they still have one of the most balanced squads in international football imo.
From recent years, this is where the tournament ends. Whenever we face a team who are in form, and have some quality, we fail. I am really hoping we get over that bump tonight, and put on a good display.
Safe night to any lifers out there, come on England.2
