One thing i would say is that Coventry doesnt look a player thats gone through a prem academy, think we're all waiting to see what he brings to the party arent we?

Result is irrelevant.  What is concerning is that we just didn’t play very well/didn’t look good.
Completley agree with this, I'm not panicking but the lack of creativity in that game was really worrying. There were really long periods of time where we didn't create anything. Everytime it came into midfield it looked like they were just trying to boot it forward rather than taking it down and passing it. This is what really concerns me as I thought the players we brought in were good on the ball. Having said all of this though I am still really positive going into the season and hopefully this is just a one off.

We lost 1-0 to Welling in the premier league  when we finished 7th in the premier league .  But I’m not excited by this squad

    It’s only a friendly - don’t get excited.
Real season is 2 weeks away - er er don’t get excited.

90+ mins without winning a corner and only 2 shots on target.
This was drab and not a single new player stood out for me.

CM in the crowd - told him we just need May and Dobson, then perhaps we will stay up.

Preseason is about performances. Sogames do count and you can read into them what might be the problems for tge season. If they were meaningless then the manager should only play on the training  ground.

The starting 11 v Wigan will be much more cohesive than the mix and match today. Wasn’t a good day and we ought not be losing these games so badly but the one that matters will be Wigan and I have no doubt Jones and the players are working towards that only.

the main thing I find odd is Ramsay has exclusively played RCB this preseason. Mitchell, Jones and Gillespie feels like the obvious back three but if that’s the case I’m surprised they haven’t been tried with Ramsay in front of them at all. I’m fine with Tennai as our back up RWB but if Jones is just using Ramsay in the centre then I’d be worried about Tennai or Asiimwe being first choice there
Hopefuly its partly because Jones doesn't want to reveal his hand too early
    lol.

What? - You think its smart to play the first eleven for as many Pre-Season games as possible?

Actually why am I asking you this question!!

A game littered with poor performances.

It may be pre-season but I’d expect to see some semblance of a pattern in our play, given that the kick-off is in only two weeks time.  What we got was hoof ball, which bypassed a generally anaemic midfield. I understood it last year to get the team out of trouble but I fear that it won’t get us very far in terms of mounting a challenge.

Jones disappointed with the performance, echoing what many of us are saying.

Just listened to NJ's post match interview, he was brutally honest, we weren't good enough all over the pitch, he's glad that performance happened today and not in 2 weeks time. Wants to move a few on and bring a couple more in.
There was no mention of Bishop or Potts. I would have both of them for experience alone!

Another goal for Alfie at Walsall! still think Nathan has royally fucked up here! still maybe one of his replacements will score soon!!!
Yes I thought the same but just to put your mind at rest the goals are going to come from all over the pitch instead which is much better than relying on Alfie.

NJ says it is a wake-up call for him. Some people on this forum appear to rather stay asleep to the problems.

The posters who are so quick to jump on people who merely point out it was a shit showing, have a listen to Jones. He says exactly what most have said - forget the result, but it was a concerning performance. You are allowed to give an honest assessment of what you see.

Bear in mind that Bishop and Potts were 2 of the standout players in our best pre season performance against Palace.

He also said don’t get too high and don’t get too low.

No one claimed today was a good performance.

I think we can all see it was a poor performance and of course we need to improve. But to make comments on where we'll finish in the league and write off players/the squad at this point is a bit excessive. I'm hopeful today has been the kick up the arse we need.

just to be clear, I haven't done that and haven't seen many who have.

Blimey,  can we end the season now.
Just outside the play offs in 8th...
Which is probably about our level unless we bring in another centre back, a defensive midfielder with a bit of bite about him & a creative midfielder. We also need a decent goalie who could maybe double up as our creative player by booting it long to the front men.

I wasn't saying you did, was simply to responding to what you said about jumping on others which was clearly aimed at me and a couple of others. Let's see what business we do this week and have another look at Portsmouth.
