SELR_addicks said:He's more in the Coventry mold than Anderson's position though.
Little goal/assists in his game. Lots of deep-ball distribution to wings/playmakers.So if we got Kata he would probably play alongside Coventry, and then Berry/Docherty ahead of them0 -

Seems a bit silly to be scouting players for January, but also that guy could be talking nonsense.1 -
The lack of midfield creativity isnr down to Coventry , thats not his rle or his game , hes there to do the dirty work in front of the back 3.
Doc and Berry are the creative links in the side - Anderson in there isnt the answer at the moment the same as TC isnt the answer as a striker,
Berry and Godden come in the side for Saturday in place of Campbell and Anderson and i think we look much better straight away.2 -

Back to the point at hand, I hear what you're saying, but would you really say that the way we play makes the most of Coventry's skillset?
Because to me, he's a deep lying playmaker who would be best suited to a team that keeps and moves the ball. And we're a direct, high-pressing side that doesn't really want possession in midfield. It's the same reason NJ doesn't appear to rare Taylor, who, when on the ball, is similar in style to Coventry.
I'm sure this will all be settled (or not) in the next few windows. But if we go out and spend big on a DM then that will say a lot.0 -
Almost every post on this thread about Coventry's role contradicts the previous one.

Kata is wanted by Charlton Athletic but the English side are only looking at the Hungarian midfielder as a possible January transfer. They will continue to scout him at MTK Budapest during the autumn.”7

I was not a big fan of Coventry last season but, humble pie, I think he looks the part of the defensive mid so far this season. I think our problems lie elsewhere.
Coventry is playing how NJ was trying to get Dobson to play-as somebody who can win the ball but also make a pass.8 - Sponsored links:

From the first 2 games it looks as if there may still be a lot of business this month. Fraser, Ness, Taylor, Edun and Asimwe all sold or on loan I am thinking. And apart from a goalie, 2 more midfielders coming in.1

I’m not sure I fully understand Nathan’s stance regarding loan deals. He has stated that loan deals only benefit the parent club in improving the players ability. Whilst this may hold an element of truth surely a season long loan deal could benefit both parties? Of course we have loaned plenty of duds over the years but we undoubtedly gained some quality ones too. A certain player of the year in Jed Rak-Sakai comes to mind!

Yeah that’s an almost complete rewriting of history re: JRS.
There was a few murmurs in January that there was no point keeping him because we weren’t competing for promotion anyway. But no one thought he was a bad player.
As for Jones’ stance on loans, as above he’s said he’ll take a loan only in the event that they’re better than what we could’ve got otherwise. Karl Hein the keeper from Arsenal would’ve been a good example of this.3 -

I distinctly remember the group I was standing next to at Pompey away saying he should “f**k off back to Palace” because “he’s not what we need, too lightweight”.He’d only scored in the first half “but what else has he’d done? He’s sh*t mate” was the response to that. There were a few weeks where there was a bizarre dislike of him starting to creep in.Let’s not have another lump on @RonnieMoore moment. It’s boring!4

How many times have you seen Dixon play?
Before we signed him I was excited at this raw but talented individual.
what I’m hearing from the training ground is making me even more excited.Pace like Campbell, stamina of a flying wingback, skills and tricks like nobody else we have. He’s very raw but there is a lot of excitement about him. Really has an x -factor about him.
five him a bit of time to adjust. Don’t put too much pressure on him and hopefully we won’t coach it all out of him. And then he’ll wreak havoc!44
