Hopefully it’s Oliver Norwood not Fleck. He is brilliant at set pieces.

If we're throwing out names, Gundogan is available on a free  ;)

I think the problem we might have run into having both Coventry and Taylor is that they both do the same job, and they both do in very similar ways.

If Coventry is ahead of Taylor in the pecking order, it might make sense to move Taylor on and bring in someone who does the same job but is of a different mold than Coventry.

Horses for courses situation between Coventry and Fleck seems very realistic to me.
Surely having a similar backup is a good thing? If Coventry is injured then Taylor should slot in easily as he’s a similar player so we won’t have to change anything about what we are doing

If Taylor leaves then I’d expect a similar holding midfielder replacement to come in. Fleck isn’t a holding midfielder, he’d be coming in to compete with Docherty, Berry and Anderson I think

If we wanted a different mould then I’d want a big physical type, as that’s what we are lacking at the moment
    Fleck is a DM/MC in FM 👀

Not sure Fleck would be that player tbh but I think I agree with what you’re saying. I know Jones’ isn’t huge on loans but wouldn’t mind signing both Potts’ brothers. We could loan Taylor out and hopefully play himself into some form and fitness

Wasn't there a Hungarian midfielder linked recently?  Seemed expensive but if we think some Gomez/Lookman money is coming our way...

Is the Canadian kid still with us?
Not a bad shout actually, maybe that’s why it’s unlikely in this window but could change if we get the cash windfall

I don't pay much attention to opposition goalies, but Marosi has been the worst goalie that has played against us in the last few seasons.

    Him and the Pompey keeper
  • Do we actually know it was Marosi?
Can confidently say we've had him on trial.

I’m convinced Isted & Mac G were playing against us

There was a board meeting last Friday and two of US owners were over for the game

After the game Jones spoke about perhaps being allowed to buy before he sells.

We're also getting closer to the window closing so expect to see Jamacian winger/striket Dixon announced very soon and other incomings and outgoings in the next nine days.

Other rumours for the lazy TLDR brigade

Marosi, a keeper, said to have been on trial.

John Fleck, a defensive midfielder now although was more attacking in his youth, rumoured.

Asiimwe going out on loan to possibly Walsall but Scotland also mentioned.

Taylor said to be available and we know they want to move on Fraser and Ness as no shirt numbers allocated.

Fleck is a very good player but his recent injury record is a concern. His uncle was once very apologetic to my Dad at a reserve game at Welling. Robert had sworn a few times and my Dad jokingly shouted out ‘oi, mind your language’. Fleck then came over and apologised. Seemed a nice guy.
You sure your not getting him mixed up with Roger Johnson.

We'll get Robert Fleck ex Norwich/Chelsea, just checked he's now 59.

NJ played Mpanzu in that role at Luton who is physical, energetic and much more box-to-box than Coventry and Taylor. I'd be surprised if we signed Fleck. I think the Mpanzu-type is much more what he'd like in that role. We have no use for a ball-playing DM.

Bring on the return of Florent Roumaba 🤞🤞🤞
  • Divin Mubama (previously mentioned by a few on here and the other site) is signing for Man City from West Ham.

1.5 million compensation agreed as he's out of contract but only 19.

So it really was pie in the sky to think he could sign for us. Lol

Was only mentioned in respect of a loan I think which made some sense (albeit I think he could have got a Championship loan not League 1).

I'd be surprised if he doesn't now go out on loan from City, although it'll likely be within their group of clubs.

@scoham has a scoop on the U21 thread that Vic Bettineilli, the father of Marcus Bettineilli, the Chelsea keeper, is involved with coaching our U21 side.

So putting 2 and 2 together you get 7s/4d in old money

Mentioned on under 21 thread that Vic Bettonelli has joined to coach our youngsters. Would be nice to get his son on loan from Chelsea.

Nahhhh surely not, I was told Bettinelli was unrealistic when I suggested it a couple of weeks ago…

Only concern with him would be zero appearances in the last two season - and only one cup appearance three seasons ago.

Season before that he was an almost ever present for Middlesbrough in the Championship

He's basically their Scott Carson isn't he?

Yup fills a home-grown spot for squad purposes but doesn't play. I mean when they've got 5? other keepers on the books still I'm not surprised

Tbh numbers wise in midfield I think we need both to have reasonable cover. We certainly have much less depth in midfield compared to defense and attack.

Jones asks a lot of his midfielders so we're gonna need to rotate and have the numbers to do so even if we pick up a couple injuries. Otherwise you'll just be overplaying the same players until they get injured and just self inflicting an injury crisis.

I don't see Edun as a viable midfield option though as 7th choice midfielder and 3rd choice LB there could be a role in the squad for him.

Wolves want Ramsdale on a season loan from Arsenal with option to buy, do Wolves have any decent goalkeepers?

Tom King their third choice could be an option. Started out at Millwall before being a regular for Newport and Northampton. Welsh international too.

Also scored for Newport with a goal kick.
Have they changed the rules ? Could never score from a goal kick previously.
How old are you Captain? Rule changed in 1997!
I didn’t know that. (Ancient, seeing as you’re asking).

I don’t think Fraser or Edun have real long term futures at the club - the problem is getting someone else to take them.

I don’t think carrying someone as a 7th choice midfielder and 3rd choice left back is particularly viable for a League One budget. For instance, no Edun in your scenario would mean our 3rd choice LB becomes Tennai Watson and our 7th choice CM becomes Zach Mitchell. Not their best positions but both would definitely do a job.

Jones wants a midfielder in but the only asset that other clubs might want but isn’t critical to us moving forward is Terry Taylor. That’s why he’s probably the one moving on to free up funds. In the mean time, Fraser and/or Edun will have to stick around as emergency back ups.

In January or next summer window we’ll hopefully be in a position where both Fraser and Edun can be moved on permanently and replaced with more midfielders that Jones wants.
