Supporters who travel by train to the Addicks' away games outside Greater London can take advantage of discounted return rail fares thanks to special deals usually negotiated independently by Charlton fan Syd Cheeswright.

Fans requiring discounted fare rail tickets should call 020-8688 3916 from 7-9.30pm on Sundays to Thursdays, except during any Charlton evening game, carefully noting the information and booking deadlines below. Payment for each trip must be made at that time. No late requests or payments can be accepted

For the game at Norwich City on Saturday, September 19th (3pm), trains leave Liverpool Street at 11.00, 11.30 and 12.00, arriving in Norwich at 12.52, 13.27 and 13.52 respectively. The off-peak day return is £41.50 or £27.40 with a senior railcard. Return trains leave Norwich at 17.30 and 18.00, arriving Liverpool Street at 19.26 and 19.54 respectively.

Carrow Road is only about 700 yards from Norwich station. Follow the front of the station, turn left and then left again into the (A147) Koblenz Avenue. Follow the avenue as it bends to the right and then keep straight on to the ground on your left.

The group discounted fare for fans travelling on the noon departure from Liverpool Street, and returning on the 18.00 from Norwich, will be from £20-29.50 depending on the actual number of adult passengers who must travel together on both the outward and return trains stated.

Accompanied U16s, one per adult, will be able to travel for a reduced fare, again depending upon the number of adult passengers. The latest date for booking discounted rail fare tickets is 9.30pm on Wednesday, September 9th.

For the evening game at Colchester United on Tuesday, September 29th (7.45pm), trains leave Liverpool Street about every 15 minutes from 15.30 until 18.00. The journey time varies from 49-63 minutes. The adult Anytime day return fare is £25.50 or £16.65 with a senior railcard. For departures up to and including the 16.15 from Liverpool Street, the cheap day return is £20.40 or £13.45 with a senior railcard. Return trains leave Colchester at 22.17, 22.29 and 23.03, arriving Liverpool Street at 23.16, 23.34 and 00.03 respectively.

The new ground at United Way is situated just south of the A12 and it is 1.7 miles to the north of Colchester (North) main railway station.

Shuttle buses depart Bruff Close from about 6pm to the ground, the last bus leaving from the Weston Homes Community Stadium at 10.15pm after the game. More details of this free shuttle service will be printed nearer the time.

Go out of the northern exit from the station and walk eastwards down the slope. Turn left and, after the roundabout, cross carefully over (B1508) Bergholt Road to Mile End Road. Bruff Close is then the first road on the right.

The group discounted fare for fans travelling on the 16.15 departure from Liverpool Street and returning on the 22.29 from Colchester North will be between £11 and £14.50, depending upon the actual number of adult passengers, who must travel together on both the outward and return trains stated. Accompanied U16s, one per adult, will be able to travel for £1 return. The latest date for booking discounted rail fare tickets is 9.30pm on Thursday, September 17th.

For the game at Leeds United on Saturday, October 3rd, there are two main methods of rail travel. Fans can go direct from King's Cross at 10.10 or 11.10, arriving Leeds at 12.35 and 13.35 respectively. The super off-peak day return from King's Cross to Leeds is £84 or £55.45 with a senior railcard. Return trains leave Leeds at 17.40 and 18.40, arriving King's Cross at 20.12 and 21.15 respectively.

The cheaper option is to go from St Pancras and change at Sheffield. Trains leave St Pancras at 09.55 and 10.55, arriving in Leeds, after changing, at 13.02 and 14.02 respectively. The super off-peak day return is £69.30 or £45.75 with a senior railcard. Return trains leave Leeds at 17.49 direct and 18.05 changing at Sheffield, arriving St Pancras at 21.08 and 21.41 respectively.

Elland Road is 1.7 miles south-west of Leeds station. Details of the shuttle buses from Neville Street near the station and service buses from Vicar Lane in the city centre will be published nearer the time.

The group discounted fare for fans travelling on the 09.55 departure from St Pancras and returning on the 18.05 from Leeds will be between £36 and £39 return for adults, depending upon the actual number of adult passengers, who must travel together on both the outward and return trains state. Accompanied U16s, one per adult, will be able to travel for about £18 return. The latest date for booking discounted rail fare tickets is 9.30pm on Thursday, September 24th.

Group rail travel will not function for the away game against Gillingham on Saturday, October 24th. The ground is 0.5 miles east of Gillingham station. Walk east from the station, not south, along Balmoral Road leading to Priestfield Road and the ground.

Advance warning - engineering works between Preston and Crewe will disrupt Virgin Trains from Carlisle after the game on Saturday, October 31st. A bus replacement service will operate between Preston and Crewe stations. There are through trains outward, departing Euston at 9.30 and 10.30, arriving in Carlisle at 12.45 and 13.46 respectively.

One alternative return route is via Manchester Piccadilly, leaving Carlisle at about 17.33 (depending upon the temporary engineering works timetable) and, after changing, arriving 22.02 or 23.04 at Euston.

Negotiations are in progress with Virgin Trains for a special discounted fare for the above journeys. As this fare will depend on the numbers travelling, provisional bookings, to Syd, must be made not later than 9.30pm on Monday, August 31st.

The alternative route from King's Cross to Carlisle is very expensive. The off-peak adult fare is £98.30 return. There is one direct train departing Carlisle at 18.33, due to arrive at 23.05 at King's Cross.

Fans requiring discounted fare rail tickets should call 020-8688 3916 from 7-9.30pm on Sundays to Thursdays, except during any Charlton evening game, carefully noting the information and booking deadlines above. Payment for each trip must be made at that time. No late requests or payments can be accepted.
  • Www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com mate. You have to chose an exact train ( rather than an open return) but can get the price right down if you don't mind travelling up early. Look up trains from kings cross.
  • Taverns mate is organising a mini bus for this one. waa hoo.
  • So, amongst all the guff, CheesyJet is as follows:

    Norwich - £20 - £29.50 depending on numbers
    Colchester - £11 - £14
    Leeds - £36-£39
  • Anyone travelling on Cheesyjet to Leeds, can you check the OS as one of the train times has changed.

    Cheers
