This current team is not good enough to be top 6. Another mid season beckons unless something drastically changes like someone who can regularly put the ball in the net and score more than once in a game. Plus someone decent who can create them.
We haven't played a team in the top 12 yet either. I have seen every game (except Cambridge) and have seen nothing so far that will change that view.
Really hope that i am wrong.https://youtu.be/PIJfOGHn4rQ?si=6trKgGm4L3Dq-74a

We haven't played a team in the top 12 yet either, actually you could argue we have, if Bolton had beaten us, they'd be in 11th etc. - That statement is also akin to "If we win, its because the opposition were shit, rather than because we were good", the League table is going to ebb and flow over the course of the season, its not exactly our fault we've not played someone currently in the top 12 either.
If you want to get real, then you can only beat what's in front of you, and we've done that apart from three games.
None of that is optimism either, its just facts.2 -
The football is ugly but no one cares if you are winning but if results go south and the football is still as ugly then it could get interesting to see how the crowd reacts7

We should all just be really negative. That'll help the situation.
I'm all for people having their say, but this is a new side with a lot of work still to be done that is currently inside the top 6.
Is it pretty, no. Has it been effective to date. mostly. Will it get better as the season goes on. I think it will yes.
People calling for a change of management have short memories. Some of this is embarrassing

I'm hoping I've just missed the irony in them.0 -

Toxic was when Appleton walked out the tunnel before kick off in his last game in charge7 -
We finished 18th last season and whilst we ideally would like automatics, we would be happy with a play off place, but even a 10 to 7 position would be a progress after years of mismanagement and chaos. Unless we have brummie like buckets of money to throw about we can only hope to build a squad to get promotion through multiple transfer windows. It may take just the one gone by or the January window or it may take the next two or three.
To not be top 6 this season would be disappointing but it's not disaster, if we are not next season then it's disaster and we can justifiably moan!4 -

Before the season started (at that time we had 7 signings through the door) I thought we would likely end up in the top half of the table but be outside of the play offs at the end of the season. We have had a reasonable start results wise, but based on the performances to date I wouldn't feel confident in changing my view.3

Guys, last season we did the double over Cheltenham. Did Curbs ever achieve that? I should say not!
Chin up everyone, its a great time to be a Charlton fan!5 -
The one thing we are doing well is not drawing many games so far. Being draw merchants is asking for a lower mid table finish.1

After 7 games last season we were 17th with 7 points. A massive improvement I’d say!3

Wigan were 23rd when we faced them, Jones out!6

Was that the one when he was sacked on the Saturday before?0 -

Dozens of posters getting annoyed at people saying the want NJ sacked.
Yet no has has said they want him sacked.

I'm going to say it....
SACK NATHAN JONES
(I don't actually want him to go but at least this way someone has actually said it so we can all melt down properly.)5 -

The problem the last couple of seasons was that we were conceding too many goals. Most people know that you have to build a team from the back. We seem to have the defence much tighter but it will take time to build the attacking element. To be slagging off everything due to one bad 45 minutes it’s frankly ridiculous!!0

He signed a long term contract with a clear aim at rebuilding the club. Since then he has had ONE transfer window, yet he's improved the defence massively and he has us currently up in the play off spots. What more exactly do people expect him to be doing at this point in the rebuild?
Obviously we all want promotion and at least the play offs, but if we are to finish 7-10th for example then as long as more dead wood is gone with good players coming in, then that is progress and we can build on that into next season.

I think things have been made worse here because of Cardiff sacking their manager, an easy story with Jones.
