That’s a weird lineup. Normal formation with Tyreece “allergic to defense” Campbell as a central midfielder? 433 with Edwards playing left mid?. No holdup center forward when our game has primarily been long ball focused recently?2

Didn't take long for the barmy line up to come out. Supposedly we have 2 players for every position but play TC in another position he is not suited for. He is at least more a striker than a midfielder...and Ahadme has a fractured nose eh ? Convenient.
Square pegs in rounds holes strikes again. Must get me one of these UEFA coaching badges as they seem 2 a penny.7 -

TC will be running in behind Kanu and Godden with flicks etc. He can also drag players out to allow space in behind for the front 2.
It is strange but after the last game, sounded like we need to change it up.1 -
The CL hive mind can't complain about those changes - Docherty, Berry and Ahadme come out of the starting XI, as does Gillesphey, who is often pointed to as the weakest link at the back.
Deffo looks like a tactical change
Maybe it won't be the slugging borefest we all seemed to expect6 -

Hope to see Edwards and Ramsey able to bomb on with the confidence that Mitchell Jones and Potts can be secure behind them. Both are able to use their physicality well. I am not sure how or whether the Edwards long throw will be employed.
Going to be an interesting watch, even if the football is dreary once again, for me there is interest in seeing if this pick can work out, or give us more knowledge about what might work in the future.0 -
sam3110 said:As I said on the preview thread, I find it crazy he'd rather play TC as the third midfielder than someone like Taylor.
Expect us to line up
Mannion
Mitchell Jones Potts
Ramsay Coventry Anderson Edwards
Campbell
Godden Kanu
Taylor hasn't really got that in his locker.
Anyway, you may yet find Campbell as a wide forward in a 3-4-3.
That's not Taylor either.

I know it is not usual, but I am going to wait until after the game before I decide whether playing TC in midfield is a good idea or not. Sorry 😁🤔6

Happy to see Lloyd Jones captain the team.
NJ obviously feels letdown by some senior pros. Having a go at him for changing it up seems a bit of a cheap shot.6 -
Hallelujah... it's only a bloody 4-4-2!!!0
-
We are paying the price for a combination of not having another 10, or actual wingers at the club, especially if NJ's plan B is 433 or 343.
Leaburn has played as a Winger before, and Dixon is a winger, but it's not enough if it's a serious game plan of ours.
I think, given we've only lost twice this season and kept 4 clean sheets already, Jones has done a bit too much chopping and changing when it's not necessary.
I would have gone
Mannion
Mitchell Jones Gillesphey
Ramsay Coventry Docherty Edwards
Berry
Godden Kanu

Looks like yet another 'sun in your eyes' game coming up.0

Do not like that line up. Not least the inclusion of the 5ft8 Porrs probably playing LCB.

Anyone else finding the background noise is drowning out the pre-match banter?

Think that’ll be more a 343 with Kanu starting from out wider. Good to see Edwards back. Thought we might go back to the back 3 that has been playing so well so interested to see how Potts does. Gillesphey has been the weak link, albeit he’s been better than last season, and his distribution from the back is frustrating.
The midfield needed a shake up. Not convinced Anderson is the solution to our lack of quality in possession but you know you’ll get lots of energy and aggression. I do wonder if this formation might not have been the opportunity to try Taylor with Coventry.
Glad to see TC starting, he’s been lively all season and looks our most creative outlet at the moment. There’s no natural target man and they have that Piergianni (sp?) bloke so got to keep it on the deck more today - hopefully we can do that and Godden and Kanu should offer decent movement and positional instincts in the box to give TC something to aim at.
Coventry might be the key today. If he can get in the ball and start dictating a bit it could be good. If we’re getting closed down well and have to resort to long balls we may not see much possession.1 -
People complaining about Docherty and Berry over the last few games, now NJ drops them, some wants them in. I am mistified.4

We could play with 8 defenders if we had Erling Haarland up front ffs !!

Trying to find the right combination. Not unhappy with the line up but would I think Docherty and Allan Campbell on the bench is maybe a little two similar, so for me perhaps Leaburn or Dixon but Jones see's his players on the training ground and would call their readiness better than me, lets hope it all gels.0
