Noades was behind the Full Members/ Simod / ZDS whatever else it was Cup. It was brought in during the European ban in the '80s. That was for the top two divisions only.BrentfordAddick said:'Some Scottish clubs' but there's only two that anyone is interested in, and where is the value in sending a full squad to Hibs away in December? The thing was invented by Ron Noades wasn't it?0 -
That's because they couldn't stand the embarrassment of losing to league two English teams.MrOneLung said:The Scottish prem clubs wouldn’t want to play in it

Because we are just way too good for this tournament.SporadicAddick said:
An abomination of a tournament that has no place in either professional football or the match record of any club that has to participate in it.cafc999 said:The EFL sold out
If it were my club and I was loaded, we’d be fielding our U 21’s, taking the fine, and stating publicly that the result would be expunged (great word) from the clubs 1st team records.
(In your dreams).
Meanwhile in the real world the fringe players and the promising youths will get a run out plus maybe some still recovering from injury.
AMB, Mitchell Z, Edun, Small, Mbick, Ahadme, Taylor1 -
In terms of the match against Chelsea, who has been playing Right-Back for the U21s of late.
Wonder if we might give them a run out there, to protect REG0 -
Totally agree, add some Welsh teams in too and we might get another big gate like yesterday 😂blackpool72 said:
League one and Two from England plus some Scottish clubs would certainly add more interest than the present set up.PopIcon said:
It's our only real chance of silverware and i'd love a day out at Wembley.cafc999 said:
Take out the prem U23's and it's a decent cupPopIcon said:

I wonder if the current naysayers would turn up if we made the final?
The U23s do under value it, i think years ago the efl would invite non-league teams. I'd rather see Scottish teams involved.2 -
It’s a fucking minge of a competition and yes that’s where we’re at but playing against u21 sides is beyond patheticPopIcon said:

I’ll go to the final cos the kids will want to but I have minimal interest in this shameful competition , load of shit
Leeds got to a semi final of this shit and I’m pretty sure they had plenty of fans who were embarrassed about it7 -
the prize money is something a lot of the competing clubs see as a benefitfenaddick said:
I just fundamentally think the idea of a cup for L1/L2 is a silly one. Basically no one takes it seriously until the semi’s and players don’t need the extra games. Sure it gives young players a debut but it’s against other kids and peripheral figures so the benefits aren’t greatJohnnyH2 said:
As soon as we were relegated in 2009 we have had people moaning we should not be in it, even when it was just League 1 and 2 clubs.fenaddick said:
that would be because it’s a totally different competition to what it was back thenPopIcon said:

Personally we are at the level we deserve to be and playing in this comp is part of that0 -
Winner receives 100k, runner up 50k, not too shabby for a very winnable competition compared to the FA Cup and League Cup.JohnnyH2 said:

Why not keep the money that goes into the cup and equally distribute amongst L1 and L2 teams though?Braziliance said:

Not sure we will as there’s not a clear first choice. Hobden has played RWB and RCB in a 3-5-2, but we’ve also used Fullah there (more of a winger/attacking midfielder, has also played CM) and Rylah (a winger). On the streams I’ve seen this season I wouldn’t expect any of them to be serious options for the first team at RB/RWB.ForeverAddickted said:In terms of the match against Chelsea, who has been playing Right-Back for the U21s of late.

We did have a sell out at Hartlepool to be fair. Double edged sword, if we win the group we get a path through at home and have to stage the games, 2nd and off we possibly go to Reading or Stevenage again. Not sure what the SP is with players on loan from the Prem clubs in this anymore0
-
Nothing wrong with a solely L1 and L2 cup, as it was. Look at the list of winners, they're mainly clubs of our size and history, many now higher up than us.1
-
Yesterday on the big screen they were promoting Peterborough on 16 Nov as the upcoming fixture. Even the club seem to have forgotten this one!1
-
If Charlton don’t have the Southend tickets to be able to start selling them by tonight’s game then they should ask the FA for a bye to the next round; and they should insist that the ticket allocation for away fans is at least 15% of available capacity.0

The money all comes from the prem teams, if they’re removed then so is the moneyfenaddick said:

5 players made their Charlton Athletic first team debuts in this competition and then went on to gain full international cap(s) for their respective countries
2 of those went onto to play in the Premier League as well
The positives that this competition can have for a player starting his journey (Or getting a second go with the club)7 -
A good tournament to try out a few things.2
