Great character2

Wish we had Curbishley on the payroll in a footballing capacity. Such wise insight.2

Absolutely love that accent. Want him to narrate my life.

Jim was class today. Top stuff3

Top man0

Yup. He was great today. Some good stories and obviously knew what was going on with the current squad. Hope he gets invited back.
And I have to say the 3 in the studio today just all bounced off each other superbly. Minto is class and Curbs has a wonderful dry sense of humour. We are incredibly lucky to have these guys.10 -
Thanks for the compliments 😉
@Blucher
Everton were not reigning Champions, Liverpool were, although Everton did win the league that season, making my hat-trick even more impressive.6 -

I only saw him on the screen at half time in the stadium. He looked like he had just eaten the 22 stone ref0

I have met him in the lounges at Spurs when a business contact treated me a few years ago and he was a great guy and was happy to talk Charlton with me.
In fact if Spurs aren't playing he would be a great guest.4 -
Interesting article about Jim in the excellent cult heroes series in yesterday’s programme.
Apparently ,he now slightly revises the narrative about leaving for family reasons. He claims that he was annoyed that having signed for less of a pay check from Manchester City that Lennie Lawrence signed Andy Jones from Third Division Port Vale and gave him a bigger contract than Jim . To make matters worse Melrose was also offered to Vale in part exchange for the Welshman.
Jim claims he was never even offered a new contract after his 17 goal season which was crucial to our survival
Personally I would find it strange that we wouldn’t have given Jim a new contract at that time if there had have been a chance he would stay. Although it would not have been a good move for football reasons Port Vale would have worked geographically.
It is also interesting that his time at Leeds ended badly ( see the article above ) and he moved on to Shrewsbury later that season2 -
Jim scored our fastest ever goal - 9 seconds - against West Ham (away) in 1986. Incredibly, West Ham actually kicked off! Can’t imagine that will ever happen again. I was there.4

Great mates with Chris Kamara, wasn't he?1

I was in home stand next to the West Ham dugout for this game - got some strange looks when I was dancing around celebrating each Charlton goal 😃1

Cried my eyes out when Jim left. Scrawled his face off the poster on my wall. I also remember sending him a birthday card but I wrote the J the wrong way round as I hadn't learned to write very well at that point.
Ah to be 25 again.6 -

I enjoyed watching him and wondered why he left so early0
