MATCH PREVIEW: Southend United vs Charlton Athletic (FACR1) | Saturday 2nd November 2024 - 3pm KO

I'd go with
AMB
Asiimwe A Mitchell Z Mitchell Small
Coventry Taylor
Berry Doc
Leaburn Godden
We can't risk REG with Watson and Ramsey out
AMB should play cup games to keep it game ready
Z Mitchell deserves a start
Berry & Godden have that bit of quality that will be the difference
Doc needs a confidence boost
Give Leaburn 60 mins and swap him for TC

I’d play Mannion. My point was that I don’t think either are number ones , but Mannion is betterScoham said:
Going away to a club two divisions below us and playing a GK weak on crosses doesn’t sound like a good mix.wmcf123 said:
It’s a trade off - Mannion is calm and collects the ball but I don’t think is a very good shot stopper vs AMB, who is an upgrade on shot stopping but is awful on crosses . I prefer Mannion but I am sure there are better out there and clearly Jones spent the whole summer trying to find one .Southbank said:
Great saves but still did not come off his line. Without Jones at the back I think he could be too vulnerable against an aerial attack .KingKinsella said:AMB for me
1) 4 excellent saves on Tuesday (inc 1 double save).
2)NJ has not given him a chance until last Tuesday, despite the pointless dead games at the end of last season when he could have easily tried AMB instead of Istead. Then he did the illogical thing of retaining the keeper he hadn't tried.
3)He didn't look like a stick insect on Tuesday2 -
Dont start Leaburn........look what happened when he last played against non-league cloggers !
Apart from that I dont care who plays. If we can't beat a team 2 leagues below us then how the hell are we going to get promoted.
I would say comfortabke 4-0 away win but we all know a certain player will get his customary goal against us.
1-4 and we are into the next round.3 -
Reckon team will be along these lines but possibly Ahadme coming in for Leaburnagim said:I'd go with

Southend are more route one than Nathan Jones expect lots of balls pumped into the box and dangerous set pieces, that’s reason enough to play Leaburn
2-0 Southend, Bonne to get one of them and the away end and Charlton life to be toxic
Happy Friday7 -
0-2 the cup run begins.0

Handing out a shellacking to a bunch of children from Chelsea aside we have one win in seven at the moment, including three draws on the bounce. I’d pick a strong side for this, hopefully recapture that winning mentality and take it into the league games to come.0
-
Looking at our injuries I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few fringe players playing rather than risk more.0

5 games on the bounce unbeaten if you include the midweek EFL trophy game. If you want to win promotion in a league season then building a don’t lose any game mentality in the squad is a good place to start.se9addick said:Handing out a shellacking to a bunch of children from Chelsea aside we have one win in seven at the moment, including three draws on the bounce. I mean I’m not including an EFL trophy match against a youth team as an indicator of promotion potential. Promotion is achieved by winning lots of games, not by drawing them, as our league position shows.letthegoodtimesroll said:

Hi all.
Shrimper in peace.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to roots hall tomorrow in what should be a good game. I know our fans will be well up for the game.
We are essentially a league club that has been through hell and we are fortunate to still have a club after our former chairman nearly killed us off with 2 relegations, not paying any bills or players and leaving roots Hall to wrack and ruin.
It's going to take time for us to rejuvenate roots Hall and regain league status. We only just managed to get the away end signed off to enable more tickets to be given to you for Saturday.
We aren't a bad side and like to play keep ball or "Maher ball". Not sure how that style will fair against better opposition but in the national league we certainly enjoy the lions share. We are on a little bit of a run, being unbeaten in 4 games and without conceding. Bim Pebble up front is a handful and our right back has 10 or 11 league goals to his name.
As for pubs etc. Apparently there are now better facilities in the away end, couldnt be any worse tbh. You will have access to better food and beers etc.
If you are coming into prittlewell. The pubs for away fans is limited. The railway usually let away fans in, but may choose not to give your away support.
Your best bet is to get off at Southend Victoria and go to wetherspoons, slug and lettuce or the Alex.
If you prefer real ale then then kraft work, the old trout are better options.
In Westcliff you have the Westcliff tap, craftsman, hamlet Court, plough, cricketers. About 20 mins walk.
If you have time then visit old leigh fishing village. Get off at leigh on Sea Station and its about 5 to 10 mins walk with sea food and pubs etc.
The "fish House" by the ground does amazing fish and chips but gets very busy.
Best off luck and safe journey

Chuks will leave the Club on 1/6/25* and we just think what might have been if he could have played more games.
P106 -G 24 in 5 and a half seasons.
The vast majority of those 106 were just a small percentage of the match.
*Or whenever it runs out.0 -
The question is would you give him another year because he can change games from the bench or has he become a liability with with injuries and his inability to play 90 minutes?soapboxsam said:Southbank said:

Like so many clubs, we've both suffered crap owners, although Ron Martin was something else, repeatedly settling winding-up petitions at the eleventh hour and 59th minute. With new owners, your level of support and a bit of luck, you'll hopefully be back in the EFL in the near future.
I'm expecting a tough game tomorrow and Charlton will certainly have to be "at it".3 -
Supporters worldwide can listen to live audio commentary of Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup first-round tie against Southend United at Roots Hall (KO 3pm GMT).
FA broadcast rules dictate that the club is unable to live stream the fixture, meaning audio commentary is the best way to follow all of the action on CharltonTV if you are not travelling to Essex.
Former Addick Steve Brown will be joining CharltonTV stalwarts Terry Smith and Greg Stubley on commentary duty.
Existing monthly and annual CharltonTV and CharltonTV LIVE (overseas) subscribers will have live audio commentary of this weekend's cup clash covered as part of their subscriptions.
Competition broadcast rules state that the club cannot sell a one-off audio match pass, therefore supporters can only listen to the game if they have a CharltonTV subscription.

I think it’s probably time to cut ties. I love Chuks, and over a really rubbish time for us he’s been one spot of excitement when fit - even in the most mind-numbingly boring League One fixture there was always a bit of a rush when you saw him on the sideline ready to come on.Bedsaddick said:

*Or whenever it runs out.All that said I think that the returns have been diminishing in recent times when he’s been available, which is maybe unsurprising given the recurring injuries as they must take a toll. I’m sure lots of people will say “give him a pay as you play deal” but I’m not sure those really exist in the way people think they do. If/when he does go I’ll have fond memories of him.4 -

Is there extra time or is it straight to penalties if scores are level?0

Hate the Bristols, love the FA Cup. Would really like a big team in the 3rd round but will we get there? Southend have picked up a bit of form and will be tougher than the Paper Mills lot. We love an early exit, Bonne 1 Addicks 0.0

and in other news
Tamworth 1-0 Huddersfield
Freddie Ladapo blazes over after an almighty scramble in the Tamworth area.
