Jofra Archer isn't in the final list for the IPL Auction. Might mean the ECB could release him to actually play red ball cricket for Sussex for the first few rounds of the CC.0

I'm still confused at why 100 franchises can be worth the sums being mentioned, when it's just 3-4 weeks of the season, and the 100 has hardly been a massive success financially or in terms of profile.
That's not saying it's a flop or a disaster commercially, just that it feels like a bit of harmless hit and giggle in August, rather than something with real financial impact like the IPL.
If I was Surrey for example, what would I rather concentrate on, the 51% of the Invincibles that they will inherit, or 100% of their own side in the other competitions? Indeed from a private equity pov, that 49% doesn't sound very attractive, whereas I can see the financial attraction of the London Spirit, and from the MCC pov they're probably also looking at Middlesex being a bit of a basketcase...0 -
Also, weren't the Invincibles meant to be a Surrey AND Kent based side, with the women originally meant to play at Beckenham, rather than an exclusively Surrey one with them getting the 51%?

The Hundred is losing money which is why the ECB need the investment. Viewing figures were 25% down this year. It will become a T20 comp to bring it into line with the rest of the world with Indian players allowed to play in it and will probably last for more than the current four weeks. What I've posted on the Kent thread to the Women is the forerunner to this. It is rumoured that the Women in Tier 1 are on an average of £30k and with the Hundred plus sponsorship most will earn an average of £70k-£80k (that's not including what those that are in the England set up get). I dread to think, by comparison, what those playing in the Tier 2 counties will receive. That is why we are seeing that 40% of Surrey's squad came through the Kent system. No one should blame the women as it's a "no brainer" for them to move. Effectively, the ECB in making Kent a Tier 2 county, have undone all the hard work over the years of their coaches. Kent have gone from being very competitive to being second class citizens.

I believe that there is a reason why no other county has been able to follow Hampshire's lead. They are one of only three privately owned counties (the others being Durham and Northants) and also the ECB have blocked any new owners of counties from gaining automatic access to the 51 per cent but this made no difference to the talks with the new owners, GMR, because they began before the divvying up of the Hundred franchises was agreed between the ECB and counties.
