Isn't that what Harry Ramsden use? I make you right regarding the beef dripping, their fish and chips I had as a child in Blackpool I can still taste now

Believe so, although never tried Harry Ramsden. Elite in Lincoln also tell you the farmer who grew the spuds and the boat the caught the fish. On a little chalk board as you walk in. Elite have two shops in Lincoln, one in Tritton Road has a licenced restaurant and always seems busy even though prices have gone up.

Tried Battered Lemon Sole the other week, was amazing. Plaice next of the list, I believe it is in season at the moment. Before that would only really go for haddock.

    Huge portions and very tasty.

Is that in the small parade of shops between the lights that takes you to Sundridge Pk and the mini roundabout taking you to Chislehurst ? A bit out the way but will try it if passing.

We are off Burnt Aah Lane nr Lidl. There is a kebab shop & a Morley's. Was a fish & chip shop there but closed down in the summer.

Need something that we can grab on the way home from a match. Grove Park area.
  • Vintage Fish at Lee Green is good but not cheap. Gluten free on Tuesdays.

Divert along Manor Lane to Manor Fish and Chip shop on the parade with Simply Corner.
Reputedly better then Vintage Fish and much easier to park outside and nip in to order.

Yes, that's the one.  Not far if you are driving but too far to walk from yours.  Three minutes walk from me and from Greg Docherty

  • Any recommendations for a good chippy in Bromley.......more the Sundridge Park end. There is one in College Road but seems very expensive & shut every time I try there 🙄. Others I've tried are the one in Bromley Hill & another in Baring Road (not far from the South Circular). Around us there only seems to be kebab shops or chicken shops. None do decent chips 😡.
Village Fish and Chips in Shortlands. It's not super close to Sundridge Park, but not a million miles.

Wasn't keen on Beluga when we tried it (was our regular place for fish & chips when the Greek couple owned it prior to changing hands) I don't like the skin left on the fish and they wouldn't remove it for me.

We use Blue Planet at the end of Eden Park Avenue. Their grilled fish as an alternative to battered is lovely.
Used to go to the Blue Planets predecessor as a lad 35yrs or so ago I reckon after Charlton games with my Dad. Not been for years.
Beluga now grill fish too and I have always been impressed.

Frankie's is the best fish and chips I have had this year, but it's a bit far to go to Shetland for an Uber eats driver !
  • Our friends live in West Runton & we always go to Number 1 when visiting them. One of our friends is vegetarian & they definitely use vegetable oil, which is confirmed on their website. Still delicious though !

    El Supremo, I think?
Would go there with a mate after we'd finished delivering the News Shopper and Leader local papers for a portion of open chips and a can of Vimto each. Hands would be black from the newspaper ink, but it didn't seem to matter back then.

Tom Bells near to The Oak pub.

    **Edit, beaten to it.
  • Down my way best fish and chips are Minnie Berthas in Bexhill. Best I’ve ever had is in Camelford, North Cornwall. They are so expensive now these days. Was told since Covid the cost of potatoes has risen more than the cost of fish.

Also had superb chips in Camelford. I think it was called Peckish - opposite a car park.

Lovely town Cromer, shame they built a McDonalds on the Coop car park.
Number 1 is really good for oil fried fish, never had greasy offerings, think the sea air helps too!

Still swear by a bit of dripping though.
  • Kerridges Fish and Chips @ Harrods was simply incredible only £37.
Was that for four people or...

That’s the one I think, must be as there is only the one in town. I liked the fact too that they listed the trawler the fish had been caught from and the type of potatoes they were using that night.
  • In Auckland, NZ we pay around NZ$4.50 (£2.25) for a Hoki and NZ$7.50 (£3.75) for Snapper.
A scoop of chips is approx. $4.50 (£2.25).

This is where we get ours from after Charlton home games when we go back to my sisters , pricey but more than decent
over our way Smiths chippy in Epping are good, open 7 days a week all day for lazy cat funts like me
  • FWIW, Rick Stein's F&C shop (the sit down one, not the takeaway) in Cornwall was nowhere near as good as I expected it to be.
  • Nothing beats the Frying Pan opposite the old Great Harry pub in Personage Manorway
