Typical isn't it... Just as we get three points in the League, on the road no less, and the League campaign throws up the handbrake once more, with proceedings paused for another clash in England's most historic competition: the FA Cup... Our last round encounter at Southend United, a 4-3 thriller requiring a winning goal from an unlikely source was a great way to advertise the tournament - Now just one game stands between forty clubs and a match that can turn into a huge financial windfall, yet one that come the end of this weekend, only twenty can take advantage of.
The Opposition
Name: Walsall - Manager: Mat Sadler
League: EFL League Two (2nd)
Previous Round: Walsall 2-1 Bolton
If you want to look for an cupset this 2nd Round, then I imagine you've potentially come to the right place - Walsall are flying in League Two at present, and sit just three points (albeit with a game in hand) off table topping: Port Vale... The Saddlers have already despatched Bolton Wanderers from this competition, winning 2-1 at the Bescot Stadium, whilst they've beaten Birmingham City on penalties in the EFL Trophy (a 0-0 draw), and narrowly lost to Leicester City on penalties in the League Cup, again another 0-0 draw.
Looking to lead the Saddlers back to the third tier of English Football for the first time since 2019 is the aptly named: Mat Sadler (where is Dave Addick when you need him!!); Sadler spent two spells as a Defender with Walsall in his playing career, before retiring at the club in 2022 - In April 2023 he was named Interim Manager after the departure of Michael Flynn, and a month later was given the job on a permanent basis, with the club having finished 16th and 11th in their last two League campaigns respectfully.
But its the FA Cup that should be the focus this weekend, the focus on Walsall as a League encounter will have to wait until next season - Keeping things simple and our opponents tomorrow have reached Round Three in each of the last two seasons; Charlton and Walsall have actually met in the FA Cup on three occasions, with the latter ending victorious twice, the last of those meetings came at the Valley in 2002; Walsall won 2-1 on that occasion - Charlton though are undefeated against the Saddlers since 2011, with six wins and three draws... However all current form points towards another giant-killing in the FA Cup this season.

Injuries are refusing to go away at the moment, with Zach Mitchell joining the Physio club at Sparrows Lane, its unfortunate for the youngster who was just starting to get some game time with the First Team, and will now miss the next ten weeks or so with a hamstring injury - In his place, surprisingly, in recent matches has been Fijian; Josh Laqeretabua with the youngster making his first League appearance for the club as a substitute on Tuesday night, and could well remain in the squad ahead of Nathan Asiimwe who was selected for the lesser; London Senior Cup in midweek.
One player who should at least appear on the bench from that 9-2 victory is Jamaican: Kaheim Dixon who scored four goals against Wingate & Finchley (I've always wanted to include them in a Match Preview), and with the option to have nine substitutes in FA Cup matches, should surely be involved on the bench at the very least this weekend. Other than that I suspect we'll see few changes this Saturday, as Nathan Jones looks to try and bring the "win by any means" mentality back amongst the main team.

Can I be bold and say, get rid of HYLTON and A CAMPBELL and put 2 in from the under 21s from the other night, and you never know we might get a glimpse of Dixon and Co on the hallowed turf of the Bescot👍2

I'd like to see Small for Edwards. Provides some extra threat, gives Small some game time and Edwards some rest. I'd also swap TC and Godden around in that formation.8

Would be a great time for Dixon to get a start, or at least a place on the bench and some game time, especially after his 4 goal U21 performance in the week...got to be a better bet than Hylton at least ffs...3

Thierry has said himself he doesn’t like playing up the pitch but this place has decided he should be a winger all of a sudden. I think it’s probably just because of a lack of options but it’s not his game at allForeverAddickted said:
