MATCH THREAD [+POST p19]: Walsall v Charlton Athletic: (FACR2): Saturday 30th Nov 2024: KO 15:00
So, the glory trail continues today on our relentless road to Wembley...🙄, with another away trip, this time it's at The Bescot Stadium where Walsall await to try and trip us up...
Walsall, who are having a rather good season so far and currently sit second in the league two table, secured their spot in round two with an impressive 2-1 win at home to Bolton Wanderers, so today ain't gonna be a walkover, and I expect a rather tough watch, where hopefully we are able to progress into round 3 and a possible top table opposition fixture.
We've met on 37 previous occasions winning 19, the Saddlers 10, and the remaining eight fixtures ending all square, we ran out 1-0 victors at the Bescot when we last met back in August 2022, with DJ netting the decisive goal as we progressed in the Carabao Cup.
The Addicks will be wearing their yellow away kit this weekend...
So here we go...
Team news up eventually...🤦‍♂️
Terry Taylor returns to the starting line-up this afternoon as Nathan Jones makes one change to the side that beat Burton Albion in midweek.
The midfielder replaces Miles Leaburn, while Dan Potts and Daniel Kanu are named amongst the substitutes bench following respective injuries.
The starting line-up would suggest that the Addicks start in either the 4-diamond-2 formation utilised on Tuesday, or the 4-box-2 formation that has been used a number of times this season.
It means Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Alex Mitchell, Macaulay Gillesphey and Josh Edwards will start in a back four in front of Ashley Maynard-Brewer.
Taylor will join Conor Coventry, Karoy Anderson and Luke Berry in a midfield four behind Gassan Ahadme and skipper Matty Godden.
Potts and Kanu are joined on the bench by Tommy Reid, Josh Laqeretabua, Tayo Edun, Thierry Small, Allan Campbell, Tyreece Campbell and Danny Hylton.
Charlton:Â Maynard-Brewer; Edmonds-Green, A.Mitchell, Gillesphey, Edwards; Taylor, Coventry, Anderson, Berry; Ahadme, Godden (c)
Subs:Â Reid, Potts, Laqeretabua, Edun, Small, A.Campbell, T.Campbell, Hylton, Kanu
Yipee!!...return of Taylor to the starting line up...still no place for that elusive Dixon though....FFS when will we ever see him NJ...🤷‍♂️

Not got a good feeling on this one - 2-1 loss predicted.Â1

Tough game v one of the best L2 outfits .. I just hope that Jones N & Co are taking this game seriously as a decent cup run would boost morale for all, fans and staff1
-
Kanu and Potts have both made the trip, would be surprised if they were in the squad but we do get a bigger bench1
-
Good if Kanu is fit. We have missed his pressing game up front.

No Leaburn?
Hope he is being rested rather than injured.3 -
Good question0

Hylton over Dixon for a cup game is criminalÂ13

Dixon must have turned up on his first day and made a comment about Jones' wife's bunda or something6
-
Anderson 🤦Â2
-
So Dixon scores 4 goals for the reserves the other night - and some good ones amongst them - and he can't even get a place on the reserves bench.
I struggle with Jones hugely.5 -
Just one change - Terry Taylor starts.

Bizarre squad selection again. Why's Hylton involved over Dixon and 2 left backs on the bench....Â2
-
Bet leaburn is ecstatic being rested but still having to watch some shite football.8
-
No Dixon is criminal in my opinion especially with nine on the bench.5

Perverse not to have Dixon among the subs, at least.5

Imagine Jones sees Edun as a MidfielderMarcusH26 said:Bizarre squad selection again. Why's Hylton involved over Dixon and 2 left backs on the bench....Â
Dont think Edun has played Left-Back under him has he?0 -
There is absolutely no pace or guile in that starting 11. You know what's coming......1
