Don't forget the line about how we fought off loads of clubs (whilst Scott was falling over drunk at the 19th hole). 😉Callumcafc said:
Welcome to Charlton, Collin Aarons from Bristol Manor Farm FC!YannTheMann said:Can't wait to hear about how close we got to signing big players cause we're an ambitious football club and then ending up with 2 players who make absolutely no difference to the ability of the existing squad

There is a break clause in the Campbell loan deal, whether we will utilise it will probably depend on who is the manager.CAFCDAZ said:My understanding is Campbells loan does not have a recall clause. Most recalls are on younger players that clubs want to keep and eye on to either a. Integrate back into there team in January, B. Capitalise on interest, a greater fee and higher level of football. Clubs who don't have 26yr old midfielders in mind, don't usually tend to change that opinion unless in crisis come January.0 -
The window opens 2 weeks today! So not long to wait to see what, if any, recruitment work has taken place.
I'd like to think that we hit the ground running and don't wait until 1/2 way through the window to change things!
However with Scott in charge, I'll not hold my breath!!3 -

" a perm striker on loan" ? I expect you mean a Prem striker on loan otherwise it doesn't make sense.RonnieMoore said:Redmidland said:The window opens 2 weeks today! So not long to wait to see what, if any, recruitment work has taken place.

Then again, getting any Prem player in on loan doesn't make sense......for the Prem team I mean.1 -
If the Prem striker rumour is that daft idea that was going around about Ali Al-Hamadi being available from Ipswich on loan when he's regularly coming off the bench for them.....0

Another Ipswich signing you say...?MarcusH26 said:If the Prem striker rumour is that daft idea that was going around about Ali Al-Hamadi being available from Ipswich on loan when he's regularly coming off the bench for them.....

Why would anyone send us a decent player on loan ? The parent clubs sole aim is to develop the player what does our current style of football offer in terms of development?4

If Scott is not in charge of recruitment as you allude to....why is he still here and being paid? He does fuck all else!RonnieMoore said:Redmidland said:The window opens 2 weeks today! So not long to wait to see what, if any, recruitment work has taken place.

Dan Crowley, so Jones who is in charge of recruitment has decided he wants a 5 ft 9 creative technical midfielder. That raises so many questions around who’s in charge of recruitment, the budget etc.RonnieMoore said:Redmidland said:The window opens 2 weeks today! Good news if true in terms of the type of midfielder he is, but I’ll believe it when I see it.1 -

Crowley is exactly the type of player we need but he's the complete antithesis of what NJ seems to value in his midfielders. Would probably need a tweak in formation again to get the best out of him too3 -
Crowley would be funny considering he was available on a free in the summer of 2023 and we turned him down when his agent came knocking.1

Dan Crowley is currently injured.0

Does that mean we’ve offered him a 5 year dealAthletico Charlton said:Dan Crowley is currently injured.22 -
Love threads like this, nearly 10 pages in and not one real rumour or an actual. Just desperate suggestions on a wishlist
Keep it up 👍🏻0 -
Has Jones had a change of mind, as he was opposed to loaning young players as he didn’t want to develop players for other teams.golfaddick said:

I think it's important to recognise that the nation relating to the Prem player is not mentioned, both Northern Ireland and Wales spring to mind, and not in a good way...guinnessaddick said:

I tried to help fix the club up with Lewis Bate on many occasions over the last few years - johnnie jackson tried to get him when he was unhappy at Leeds but they wouldn't let him go - every window after that he was available and would have jumped at the chance of signing for Charlton, his local team. The last attempt was with Dean Holden interested but Scott blocked it. He's now Stockport's captain and although Louie Barrie wins lots of league awards, Lewis wins the supporters player of the month most times - Stockport are 5th, we're 14th and our midfield is woeful. Whether it was finances or opinion of the player as to why Scott wasn't interested,i think it tells a story.35

The other possibility is that Jones has been told that we tried it his way and it turned out to be a complete load of shit so he doesn't get quite as much power as he used to.MarcusH26 said:Scoham said:

This is purely speculation by me not ITK stuff at all and of course the problem is that if Jones doesn't choose the targets, then Scott probably does instead... not exactly inspiring.1 -
Don’t expect much to happen. I believe Jones is basically content with the squad and any incoming will be stop gap.3
-
If that’s true, which I can’t believe it is, Jones genuinely needs sectioning.ShootersHillGuru said:Don’t expect much to happen. I believe Jones is basically content with the squad and any incoming will be stop gap.7 -
We made a lot of signings last January, I don’t think it would be that surprising to see a few come in. Releasing Potts, Hylton and sending Allan Campbell back could reduce numbers and free up wages before you add any sales to that.
Back in August Jones spoke about improving every window. That should always be the aim and 2/3 good attacking signings could make a difference to this team.9 -
If he's happy with the guano he brought in then he is indeed a nutjob!1
-
No chance it stays the same. Reckon we see as many as 4 out and 4 in. Potts either extended or a new LCB, a CAM and hopefully a winger so we can change shape a bit better. Depending on Ramsay and Watson, a RB won't be out of the question too IMO.
Hylton re-registered as a player, send Campbell back and move on Edun.
Very long shot on a keeper too though I think Mannion has won the battle and will start in goal again soon enough0 -
I'd like to see someone else come in up front if the money dominos align, albeit it's a difficult space to fill anyway, never mind in January.
Chuks is going in June so it wouldn't be too ahead of schedule and I think we need a bit more speed, hustle/bustle, ball holding and laying off than we have now. With Gass, Miles, DK these aspects are nowhere near good enough at the moment.
So Santa - a forward and a ball holding, creative, ball threading guy in the middle of the park.
Arguably Santa, our defense is decent enough for now so if NJ or AS ask you for a defensive player please just ignore them.0 -
I don't see strikers as a priority, as unless we sign a cheat code striker for this level, which is incredibly unlikely, they'll still be feeding on scraps.
How does NJ see us scoring goals, as I don't have a clue based on the first half of the season. Is it from midfield, as than we'll need a classy No 10 to create chances. If it from old fashioned wingers getting to the byline and slinging in crosses? If it from inverse wingers cutting in to score with their stronger foot? If it from attacking wing backs?1 -
