Not watched it nor would I
  • Thanks for commenting on the thread about the programme you won't watch.
    You’re a cheerful chappie arnt you ?

What a bizarre comment - can you define a level of cheerfulness through a post about a TV programme?

That said, based on your posting history of political and covid angst, I'd wager I'm a lot more cheerful than you!

This kind of weirdness is the best thing about the forum! Please don't stop it!

    Much obliged 👍

That's the sort of phrase Rees-Mogg would use.
  • So did anyone here actually watch it?

Having now done so, I'm pleased to say that I like him even more.
The bloke is so far removed from the real world, he's a Smuf, i mean he even has a Smurf name.
Unlike the Smurfs, Rees-Mogg is only marginally more fun than an afternoon of chess with you, Golfie and Garth Crooks.

(Talking about the Rees-Mogg documentary, not the Smufs Smurfs).

I started watching it, i thought it was an independent and researched documentary. No, It's Meet the Kardashians only for plebs, well that's for plebs too. It's all smoke and mirrors for the Smurfs, lal la la la la etc.

I doubt it ended any differennt to how it started.  Or was it like the Titanic and the ship never sunk?

The irony of you using the term "plebs" to describe people that watch a documentary about Rees-Mogg is not lost.

But at least you gave the programme a go.
  • By “politicised”, I take it you mean “failed to agree with Rees-Mogg’s weird and toxic economic viewpoints”. Thankfully

Didn’t realise you were so hard and Brexity right-wing. Consider the word “sensible” deleted from my description above😉
Gordon Brown gave BoE independence, meaning they were able to make political decisions to benefit the country rather than fulfil the agendas of right/left.

Couple of things firstly, that isn't ironic, you've just had Alanis Morissette on too long.

Secondly, that's exactly how insults work. Eg if I called you Tory wanker, i don't actually assume you spend all day masturbating.

Anyway, i'm not sure i have much more to add to this conversation. I'm off to watch Meet the Smurfs, in this episode Clumsy Smurf and Brainy Smurf discuss the pros and cons of Brexit - cant wait.
    Oh the irony...
  • Rees Mogg is the perfect recruiting sergeant for left leaning parties. I'd want wall to wall coverage of the man if I wished the Tories ill.
  • Apart from being an entitled, born into wealth snob, his hedge fund and his personal wealth are atypical in that he avoids paying UK tax but claims to be a patriot, standing in front of a Union flag at every opportunity.

The problem with our country is not Unions, immigrants, workshy scroungers, but rich people, often lecturing us with their opinions but not paying their fair share of tax to create a balanced society.

And yet no government of any colour tackles it.
  • Haven't watched it and won't tbh. Should have got Louis Theroux to do a three part doc then I definitely would have tuned in!
  • You're a funny chap. You practically begged him to comment on Brexit then explained this wasn't about Brexit, while telling us you think it was the best democratic decision etc. Your cake is truly meeting all of your needs.
    LOL.

I think you might be misreading this thread a little bit.

This morning I posted "So did anyone here actually watch it? Having now done so, I'm pleased to say that I like him even more".

    No mention of Brexit.

You may be confused by James Seed quoting a post from December 3rd in response to a post from Prague Addick which had brought Brexit into the thread by calling me a Brexity Right Winger (a badge I wear with pride).

So there you go - no practical begging or cake, just your inability to understand the timeline or quoting function of a thread.

I think the EU pledged to tackle it, hence JRM Brexit stance. But considering that many tax havens are British dependencies, their powder has been dampened by our withdrawal from Europe. Something I'm sure Jacob was aware of.

    We aren’t tackling it now.

Tax havens are not the only  loophole / get out.

We have multiple schemes / allowances that are exploited beyond their original intention but few get properly addressed.

But we digress; I haven’t seen the programme as I don’t have the subscription but would watch out of curiosity.

My surprise is he did it at all but it just seems to prove the adage ‘money goes to money’ as he doesn’t need to do it He is thick skinned enough it seems to accept the inevitable ridicule.

  • I think you have to pay him (Rees Mogg) in order to be allowed to watch him because Discovery (plus?) is not a free to air channel as I understand it.
I don't know if it would be money well spent or not, however maybe Discovery plus have a money back scheme if you think the programme is either a rip off or crap and that it is money for Jacob Rees Mogg not well spent.
