Playoffs Guaranteed Minimum - Good Friday

A few games ago we were fighting for one place, now it is two and if we continue to put a run together it could be three! Of course it can go the other way if we don't. Wycombe could go on a terrible run for instance. They didn't look like a team of world beaters to me. My underlying impression of them was they were a bit dirty. Also we know the damage losing a player like Jones can do, they lose one or two and they could stop winning. There is still around half a season to go.1

There is still around half a season to go.We're 13 points away from fourth place, we cannot afford any slip ups.It will be fantastic if we carry on this run, every season you see teams who go on fantastic runs, why not us? Although I am not holding my breath.2

Maybe we are in the middle of a fantastic run. Maybe we are at the end of a decent run. We have been decent for four or five games though.0

A lot of dreamers on here.6
-
Yeah, imagine dreaming of success for your football team. Mad.

I can confirm dreams do come true and at the ripe old age of 15 and 3/4 a lifetime for me the impossible happened and we made it to the top flight of English football and that was never going to happen but it did (caveat cos it’s Charlton , we were playing at shithurst park)7

When Bowyer first came in we went on a run that took us into the play offs. These things can happen especially if we are lucky with injuries and Leaburn keeps getting better.1
-
The overall quality of the league is poor again this season so it's possible but I just don't get a play off vibe from the squad. We don't seem to have any real leaders, there isn't much dynamism in the team let alone a player I'd describe as talismanic and I don't trust us to consistently grind out results when we're not on our game.3

The Rotherham v Bolton game seems to be still on today. An opportunity for Nathan Jones to check out the forthcoming opposition.1

I think the key was we beat Plymouth at home which closed the gap and then we beat Pompey away which took them out of the running. It was in their hands until their form cost them.
It would require something similar this season, when we go away to the other top6 or top6 hopefuls (Wrexham, Stockport, Bolton, Mansfield, Orient) we are going to have to beat them. Not only beat them but hope they have a few poor results, cause we will undoubtedly lose a handful or more in the next 23.
A draw away won't cut it, left ourselves too much work to do. We are going to have to win about 16 games minimum and need a few of those wins to be against the teams mentioned (depending on their form).0 -

The autos are going to be high this season. I can see the top two both finishing with 100+ points and the playoff teams finishing between low 90s and 80 for 3rd to 5th place.
It's going to be tough and we'll need to keep our current form going until the end of the season to hit 80 points.
My gut feeling is 1st - 5th will be cut adrift from 6th - with about four teams all in the mix for 6th place come the 46th match.3 -
I think we need 80 points minimum, it looks like that kind of season. So 46 from 23, 2 points per game.
We can probably safely say we will lose at least 5-8 games. So if we got best case and it's 5, take that away from the 23 which leaves us 18 games to get 46.
We'd need to win at least 10 of those and draw the other 8 just to get 38 points. Which leaves us 8 shy of the 80 target on 72.
So realistically for play-offs, we need an absolute minimum of 14 wins from the 23, that gives us 42 points and allows space for some draws with the leftovers to hit the 80 target.
And still have to hope those wins are against the other hopefuls, and those teams above us drop points. When you break it down like that, it just doesn't seem at all likely tbh.1 -
This time last year the thread would have been "can we stay up".progress indeed that we are even asking the question1

I rhink 76 might snatch 6th. But who knows?0

Agree with we’d need a lot of wins, including against clubs in and around the top 6.0 -

I think we are going to need that kind of luck again and do the same in beating those teams around us.
Just to be clear I don't think we were lucky to beat Plymouth and Portsmouth at the time, we were better in both games. Just fortunate they were part of that fixture list, and their forms dipped.

Our final 10 this time is
Wigan (h), Peterborough (a), Huddersfield (h), Mansfield (a), Lincoln (h), Cambridge (a), Northampton (h), Wycombe (a), Wrexham (a), Burton (h)
Nothing too tricky. Wycombe and Wrexham may already be on the beach potentially. Lincoln, Huddersfield and Mansfield the big ones.
You'd like to think we can beat Wigan, Peterborough, Cambridge, Burton and Northampton.
Either way, definitely possible, but we need to have a bit of a mini win run again.1 -
I’m going for 6th spot being around if not lower than 75 points
The league is dross, most teams can beat each other and that will drag it close for 5th and 6th Reading and Stockport have shot their beans early I reckon .
Its all to play for , may the freakiest club win6 -
I think it is important the possibility is for 5th and 6th. You can get a team finding great form and then go on to cement the only realistic target place but with two, it is harder to find two teams doing it.1
-
If we can be halfway lucky and avoid key injuries 5th or 6th is quite attainable. Keep the Wembley playoff date free folks 😜1

Keep the Wembley playoff date free folks 😜You see it too often that teams go on a fantastic run and emerge from nowhere, okay, it could be us.BUT, we cannot afford to have a bad spell as we are on catch up atm as it is.We'll not even get into the play-off positions at any time is my belief.2

We need a good scout to get in some top loan players1
-
Next 4 league fixtures should tell us. All very winnable.
Take 10 points from them and I will start to believe.1 -

Bolton in our last 10 we have won twice, last 8 times away there we have won once, Rotherham will be tough, they've been showing some fight lately, same as Shrewsbury, lost 1 in last 5, as for Bristol Rovers, proper dodgy team for us atm, lost 5 in a row vs them lot.
10 points would be nice, and keeps us on target, but the next 4 are genuinely quite tough for us.
I also think the sleeper team this year is Leyton Orient, I don't know what's been put in their porridge, but they're doing very well recently1 -
4 points from the next two, maybe 3 is important.0
-
No
Brum
And any 1 from 3 to go up in 2nd
Wycombe
Wrexham
Huddersfield
That's the top 4
Barnsley for me 5th
Then we have to overcome
Orient (I mean jesus Orient! 5 wins from 5)
Bolton
Stockport
Mansfield (4 wins from 5)
Reading
I don't see us overtaking them all to make 6th0 -
Barnsley are not that good! Plus we have to play them at home!2
