Hopefully Gas gets sent on his way now. Has not worked and we are poorer when he’s playing.
Apart from the fact we were better with him on the pitch tonight?!

WTF is this commentator on? - He's done well, but he mentioned earlier than PNE had a Goal Kick when it was clear from the signalling that it was a corner.

Now he's just done the reverse saying we had a set piece, when it was a GK
Kept talking about Ashley Maynard-Brewer being in goal too
    Wish he had been
Why? Can't blame Mannion for the first and no chance with the second.
Exactly.  Couldn't do anything for both goals

Thought Mannion could have done better in regards of first corner which led to second corner and their goal. 1st goal 100% on Mitchell. I think Mannion is solid League one, the ceiling for AMB is much higher but we can't pin the result on Mannion tonight. I thought we were terrific in all honesty. Need to follow that up on Saturday. We didn't need extra time.

Had a good game but that is 2/3 times this season someone small is marking at a corner scores. A shame as we was the better side

Both defensive errors. Nothing Mannion could have done better.

Can't be too harsh on Alex Mitchell, a rare mistake by him.
Never looked comfortable all night….poor poor performance….saw one of our Millwall friends asked if he was championship standard a few days ago and we got our answer
Crikey, I try not to LOL people sarcastically but I'm  struggling there! Mitchell has been outstanding this season
I think that when the three have played together then they have been hard to beat and really that's what you want from your defensive backline, I do think that Alex Mitchell will have to put in some stella performances in the future though just to keep his namesake Zach Mitchell on the bench. One of the positives of the night, having Zach back.

Very good performance and looked the better side at times, especially in the first half, promising signs in terms of the team and individual players abilities.

Second half they nulled our threat from out wide and with that we struggled, in the league we can get away with being so predictable s bit more but add in someone who can play through the middle and another wide option, that will see us step up IMO,

TC and Small excellent first halves, Ahadme played well (unless you just don't want to like the guy) midfield fine but lacking a game changing option.

Mitchell unlucky but did have a US international coming at him. (Yes, do it)

Watched on a stream which was buffering horribly so only saw bits, but from what I did see, Preston didn't look like a team a division above us, far from it. Small was excellent. Very good performance. Renew his contract please, and Jones, please, and go and win at Rotherham. Feel quite proud of them tonight.

Well played, lads. A lot to take encouragement from there.

He could have tried to block the shot rather than try and fail to tackle the forward. Not brave enough.Between him and Gillesphey they gave an unnecessary corner which led to Preston's second. His kicking was crap and he does not instil confidence when going for high balls.

Poor in the second half in the end, we looked more of a threat with Ahadme and TC up top tbh tonight.
We looked more of a threat when they gave us more space, rather than it being down to our choice of pairing, in my view
I'd argue Ahadme's running creates more space as he's constantly moving. The others tend to stand pretty still when they don't have the ball, they don't press as hard out of possession, or always move about to try and get the ball when we have it. Didn't help TC and Small were more tired and more closely monitored too, but it's up to the front line to create space for themselves and others
We all see the game differently I guess. I think the reason they looked stretched first half was down to their setup, not so much our striker's movement. They defended wider second half and TC wasn't receiving the ball open anymore, they were already on top of him.

Always best to have low expectations - you can then never be disappointed. Usual FA Cup uselessness.

Played really well in spells, We were much better for large chunks of the game. Today emphasised once again the need for more wingers/pace and creativity, however well Campbell and Small did in the first half, they were soon nullifed and knackered in the second half, cant keep relying on them playing 90 mins every game it just wont work.

Very annoyed with the defenders, crap from Mitchell but least he learnt from his mistake and started putting the ball out to touch rather then going back to the keeper, then for that absolute bellend Gillesphie to do the same when he could have headed for a throw was unforgivable.  Shout out to the ref for being an absolute prick in the second half, gave us nothing and didn't let us take the corner.

What a difference to the way we were playing a few weeks ago. We more than held our own against a team from the league above and despite the result I was pleased with what I saw, defensive errors aside.

Just a shame we miss out on a glamour tie against Wycombe.
  • Can't fault the performance. It is night and day to some of the dross we've had to endure over recent months, but the end product is still the problem. No good creating 10, 15, 20 chances a game if we can't find the net. 1 goal isn't enough to win most games.  We need a finisher and right now, we haven't got one to play 90 minutes (in one game) and most importantly get a goal every other game.

The owners will be under no illusion as to what NJ has asked for. We need a striker to replace rather than add to the current bunch, or if he hasn't then he might as well take up hill farming!

  • May have played well, but I’m worried that the Crawley game being called off and then this game being postponed it may have seriously ruined our flow

I think that's harsh, it was a back pass so understandable his first thought was to go with his feet. I don't remember him flapping or dropping any crosses? Maybe I missed it.

That was the most enjoyable defeat I have seen for a long time. We deserved more with our performance, but we were rightly punished for switching off a couple of times.

Thierry Small was outstanding and watching us in the last month has just been so much more enjoyable. I fear we may have left it too late, but I think we are going to give it a right go to get into the play offs.

Will be interesting to see what he does when Ramsey comes back in as you can't currently take Small out of this side.

Its got to the point for me where even though we are on top of teams you just know we will find a way to fuck it up and lose….and we did

Normal service is resumed: Charlton are out of the cup again. Except it wasn't really normal service, was it? Charlton put up a gutsy performance with no little skill. I think if you compared the teams on a like for like basis, you'd have to concede that Osmajic was better than Adheme, Woodman was more assured than Mannion and Gibson was calmer under pressure than the uncharacteristically jittery Mitchell. Other than that, right across the park our boys were at least equal, if not better than theirs. That's how it so often goes though: best spine wins.

Special mention for Small tonight, if that wasn't his best game for us I'd like to know what was. Back to concentrating on the league now then, at least this year we can do so with our heads held high. I've said some harsh things about Nathan Jones in recent months, but one thing I really appreciate about his management is that he's taken the cup matches seriously. Thank you Nathan.

Finally, a word of advice for anyone who finds themselves out of work at the moment. Get yourself up to Preston and set yourself up as a barber. Looking at their team's collection of truly awful haircuts, you'll be sure to succeed up there with or without experience. I believe the current team barber is a disinterested blind man with the DTs who savages their squad with a strimmer in one hand and pinking shears in the other. I have never seen such a collection of appalling barnets... oh, hang on I'm just looking at Orient v Derby and I see that Sean Clare has got porno bunches. That really doesn't bear thinking about.

I had a close look at it and Mannion can't be blamed. Had to try and kick it. Was poor from Mitchell as he ought to have booted it out if he didn't know where their player was. I think the ref was ok but missed a few too many fouls on us.

Thought that really summed us up tonight, the makings of something good but a few too many frailties throughout.
We really bossed that first half, TC and Small did a great job and created so many dangerous situations, Ahadme is nowhere near it and wonder if Miles had been on from the start we’d have been ahead before Mitchell grabbed an assist
Mitchell’s awful pass for their opener wasn’t the worst of his misplaced passes, about 15 mins before, he played a square ball about 8 yards left of his target 20 yards away. We got away with that one.
Great to see us get the initiative back, what a great pick out by Thierry to find Berry and we should have gone in ahead from a corner not long after. Free header, middle of the goal falls to…Ahadme.
You just knew they’d score once we gave them a corner from another mistake. TC and Thierry will always tire in games given their style of play and were expectedly less effective as the game went on. We don’t have anything to bring on to keep that energy and danger out wide.
In true cup fashion they still needed a great save late on to secure the win, if only!

Lloyd can cut it at this level, Thierry and TC may have just put a few on alert.

A great effort!! All eyes on the league now!

Agree, we need to bring in some cover as we are much better with width.

What we deserve a what we get are not really considerations. We got beat by Preston, who are not exactly storming the championship.  We are Charlton, mid table league one. We prayed for the mighty massive shock result… “winning at Preston” it didn’t happen.  Move back to consolidating our mid table position… yawn, yawn…….
