Probably safe to assume TT is off at this point.follett said:
It's a shame, as there is definitely a player in there, but we have played our best football and achieved our best results without him.
Our manager doesn't seem to rate him, so if it makes room for other signings, I'm not against it anymore.
Hopefully the loan serves him well and he still has a future here. Proper sound bloke and has a fair bit of potential. I'd like to think he still has a future here.16 -
when we shipped him off on loan to Mansfield, we inserted a clause to stop a recall or them sending him back, after a couple of months they realised why!blackpool72 said:

Something to consider with Taylor is he may be on a first team players wage and it’s clear NJ rates Coventry more highly. We paid an undisclosed fee and gave him a 3 year deal, he wasn’t a free agent who joined for a year or two to add depth. Moving him on will likely free up more budget than loaning Anderson out.5

Yeah if he’s not going to play here give him a chance to play half a season in this league, ideally at Shrewsbury as they’re no threat, see how he does and reassess in summerBraziliance said:

Although I am very keen for him to get some consistent (likely L2) football, I don't want Kanu to go out on loan.Chris_from_Sidcup said:
Kanu in theory should be an easy out as well. He's way down the pecking order now that Chuks is back and given his loan at Southend and number of appearances at league one level, i'd be amazed if we can't find him a loan.Henry Irving said:The "easy" outs ie sending A Campbell back, not extending Hylton's deal, possiby Potts although his contract status may differ, haven't happened or at least not yet been announced.
Asiimwe has gone out on loan but we've got Henry back so no net change.
Whether the plan is to keep Potts, Hylton or Campbell longer term or just until we get others in isn't clear.
But the point about too big a squad was repeatedly made yet we now have as many fit players, with Ramsay, Watson and Mitchell Z back, as we have had all season.
Moving on the fringe/unwanted/in need of a loan players seems to be, from the outside, holding up inward signings, a result of the need, perhaps to balance the wage bill.
On the other hand deals maybe close but negotiations continue as fees and wages are haggled over.
If you work on the principle that we are set up with a big lad, little lad two up front, the priority atm seems like:- Big lad - Leaburn, Chuks (sub, if fit), Ahadme, Hylton
- Little lad - TC, Godden, Kanu
When you look at it like this, Kanu has to be kept as cover, or we will simply have to recall him back again if any of the forwards with any pace/legs get injured.3 -
I think TT has been a bit unlucky in that he's a perfectly decent player, probably a good one but just not fitting into the system and not suiting the manager's style... and he's not THAT good that you'd want us to change the shape and style to suit him.Braziliance said:

If/when he does go I expect he's got a very decent career ahead of him. It never quite worked out at Charlton but I genuinely don't think there's anyone to "blame" for that. Just bad luck.

If we sign a pacy TC alternative then Kanu can go out on loanth0rryy said:

Until then I actually think we should be using Kanu more. TC keeps playing well and then flagging, Kanu should be coming on for him until we sign a more similar TC alternative3 -
My feeling is that Jones doesn’t rate what TT does off the ball..his distribution is first rate but he can lose the ball at close quarters and his tracking back leaves a bit to be desired ...if he gets a role solely as a " quarter back " he'd be great ..in other words I think NJ thinks he's a luxury5

Perhaps he loses the ball occasionally because he tries to move us up the pitch. We have no other dead-ball delivery in the squad, even Edwards, current incumbent, is average.lolwray said:My feeling is that Jones doesn’t rate what TT does off the ball..his distribution is first rate but he can lose the ball at close quarters and his tracking back leaves a bit to be desired ...if he gets a role solely as a " quarter back " he'd be great ..in other words I think NJ thinks he's a luxury0 -
Depends on how bad the injury is and if anyone else in the NL wants him.fenaddick said:Not sure Henry coming back will have a bearing at all as he’s clearly injured and can be sent back out to a NL side as soon as he’s fit
Hasn't set the world alight at Rochdale or during his last loan at Wealdstone.
Regardless, as it stands he's at Sparrows Lane.1 -
I don’t think he’s that wrong tbh. Coventry is the much better all round player, if Taylor played there we’d be much worse defensively. And Taylor isn’t the player for the more advanced roles, his game is all about getting on the ball deep but he’s not good enough defensively for that positionlolwray said:My feeling is that Jones doesn’t rate what TT does off the ball..his distribution is first rate but he can lose the ball at close quarters and his tracking back leaves a bit to be desired ...if he gets a role solely as a " quarter back " he'd be great ..in other words I think NJ thinks he's a luxury2 -
Thought Terry Taylor was poor when he played last season albeit he was often injured.
Better this year and clearly can take a free kick and pass the ball but still not convinced he is good enough.
If he goes on loan and gets a run of games then maybe he'll play his way into a permanent move and we'll get a small fee. If not, we free up some of his wages for a few months.

The fact that Jones thinks that says it all really! The man is deluded and with awful player judgement. Our current squad would come straight back down if promoted.Todds_right_hook said:
Maybe jones should have been provided with the follow up question “if the squad is near championship quality, why are we mid table”Athletico Charlton said:agim said:I can't bring myself to go through all of this but are we actually linked with anyone?
In regards to Campbell I think he's had one decent game vs Birmingham and that's it!
I wrote on twitter after the Preston game that I genuinely think we need to cut our losses with Gas and try and get a fee for him this window as his re-sale value will plummet come the summer. What's he on a 2 or 3 year deal?
Bolton linked with Terry Taylor.
Allan Campbell linked with a raft of Scottish teams.
We have extended contracts of Reid (keeper) and Laquretabua.
NJ has said we have a near Championship squad already so reinforced the message of a quiet window.
So quite a few "rumour/transfer/signing" related things in the last week. Just nothing particularly exciting.
Rumours threads have always been full of guff and people always get upset about it.
I've never really understood it, as if you just want to read about facts, then any sales/purchases immediately spring their own thread, so just ignore/don't bother with this one (sorry, last bit not aimed at you @agim, just a general observation)4 -
Does he really think that or is it part of building up some of players confidence? TC looks a completely different player to the one who played under Appleton for example.thetomahawkkid said:

The question you have to ask yourself, is if we got rid of A.Campbell and Taylor, is there a player out there that can fill that gap in the squad, that's better, and net cheaper? I suspect not, so I would only get rid of 1, and for me that would be Campbell, and keep Taylor4

I think he’ll look for someone in a similar style to Docherty or Campbell that he sees as potentially able to play as either and 8 or a 6. Not easy to find though and a PL loanee would possibly be best in terms of their technical ability. We know Jones isn’t a fan of them though. No coincidence to me that a lot of our top performers (Ramsay, Small, Coventry, Jones) all came through PL academies or our own very high quality academysam3110 said:The question you have to ask yourself, is if we got rid of A.Campbell and Taylor, is there a player out there that can fill that gap in the squad, that's better, and net cheaper? The only thing I would say with a PL academy loan signing is that they're likely to want them to play week in week out.0
-
Getting rid of Taylor, AC and Edun vastly reduces our midfield cover. Anderson, possibly Zach although untried; we need to keep one, hopefully not Campbell. Only Enslin looks capable of a step up from youths.2
-
But both haven't shown that they are good enough

So do I. He is not strong enough to be a defensive mid and not quick or clever enough to be an attacking mid.lolwray said:My feeling is that Jones doesn’t rate what TT does off the ball..his distribution is first rate but he can lose the ball at close quarters and his tracking back leaves a bit to be desired ...if he gets a role solely as a " quarter back " he'd be great ..in other words I think NJ thinks he's a luxury0 -
Abankwah has gone to Watford on loan. Obviously there’s the Udinese link but weird signing given how much he struggled here1

Are you sure you didn’t misread his place of birth on wiki…..Waterford 😂follett said:Abankwah has gone to Watford on loan. Obviously there’s the Udinese link but weird signing given how much he struggled here5 -
I'm sure back in August iwhen some of us stated that our transfer dealings were a bit short we were told to wait to see where we were at xmas & that we could always strengthen in January.
Now January is here we get told that the January window isn't the best time to be signing players & its more of the case of getting rid of dead wood.
Same old same old as usual. Teams around us who are serious about promotion are strengthening whilst once again we miss out on players that are better than what we have.
Said it before.....play offs are a pipe dream with this squad. A 10th place finish is about the best we'll do I'm afraid.

I doubt that. Premier League clubs are well aware that the kids loaned out arnt necessarily going to be first choice at league one clubs. Great if they get reasonable game time but being in and around the first team squad is a valuable learning experience. Any PL academy kids that are good enough to replace seasoned league one players are likely very hard or a lucky find and often headed for loans in The Championship.MarcusH26 said:The only thing I would say with a PL academy loan signing is that they're likely to want them to play week in week out.0 -
Taylor has, in patches. In fact there was a 4 or 5 game stretch (in the Vertu Trophy game and the subsequent league games) where he was one of our best players in the whole squad. Campbell hasn't shown that at any pointRedhenry said:But both haven't shown that they are good enough
