I wasn’t even aware there was an animal park in Charlton and I’ve been going to the area for 45 years .15

Shame my daughter has enjoyed seeing the animals there3

Hope this doesn't happen. Apparently shutting it only saves them 70k a year0

I haven't signed (yet), but I'm on the brink and think I could easily be persuaded. As a kid, I loved being taken to see the deer when we visited Charlton. Similarly I took my kids when they were young. I think it’s Important that young children get the opportunity to see, understand and appreciate animals.
I signed haven't yet because there's a few unknowns for me. 1. What are the council's motives? Is it, purely a money saving venture or are there other reasons? (I'm not on tiktok to see) 2. What will happen to the animals? How will they be impacted by the change? 3. Is the park of a suitable size to provide the animals it has with a genuinely fulfilling life?3 -
and yet they spend £85k for Political Assistants, for shame!8

And don't forget their pensions...1

Sometimes, Greenwich Council make it very easy to dislike them. The park is a unique community, council should actually be looking at how to preserve and improve it.23

A little theme of the modern world: nice things cost us money. You can't have nice things. Yours, Those In Charge11

Now you can’t park within 80 miles of the valley, I walk through the park every home game. Be absolutely gutted to see it go. Why’s everyone involved in councils always total and utter wankers?15

Thought there was a caveat on that park passed down from Lord Marion giving that park to the borough on the understanding deers had to remain within. Also, is there not a tie in with the horses and the disabled school at the top?
All very sad. I guess they are not making enough out of the thousands of flats being constructed down by the river.0 -
I lived in Wolfe crescent opposite early to mid 80’s1

Council Tax going up by the max allowed as well0

how about the Charlton Athletic Community Trust zoo, we could certainly supply them with enough donkeys.7

Used to walk through the park most Saturdays before matches as a kid. Would be sad to see it go2

Very sad. I used to work through that park on match days with my dad and brother as a child. Seeing the animals was part of the day out.3

A bit like going to the old Den.Friend Or Defoe said:Very sad. I used to work through that park on match days with my dad and brother as a child. Seeing the animals was part of the day out.11 -
Used to park up the top and stroll down past the animal park every game. It was a lot harder on the way back up though! Hopefully a charitable solution will be found although I believe it was mooted before and failed.0

Was a big part of my life growing up, as I went to the school on the corner Thorntree and lived in Heathwood Gardens at the top of the hill. Use to take my children there and now my Grandson. Really sad and disappointing news should it happen.3

Signed... Need more affordable activities out there for kids etc. not less6

I lived on Woodland Terrace for nearly 10 years. Not content with letting Lovell build horrible blocks all over what used to be the Morris Walk Estate they're going to delete one of the area's treasures? Great0

I guess the occupants of those flats won't need animals to see, they're going to spend their entire lives indoors watching streamed TV and eating takeaway1

My family parked in Flamsteed Road for decades when going to games. Walking through the park and seeing the animals is such a Charlton related memory for me. Be such a shame to see it go. Plus when younger if the ducks quacked on the way down to a game I'd take it as a sign we'd win!1

I spent my childhood between Maryon Wilson Park, Maryon Park, and Cox Mount. We had access to Cox Mount from our back garden, and the old man used to go up there to collect manure from the deer and other animals to put in the compost for our allotment (deer keeper used to dump all the shit over tbere from the animal enclosurs), which was behind our house. We would play runouts between the parks, and as we got older, we'd camp up on the Mount. Eventually, we started a football league and created a pitch, building our own goals etc. The pitch was accessible just opposite the lower entrance to Maryon Wilson.
The teams were Pound Park, Floyd Road, and Harvey Gardens. Later, Kidd Place got involved, and it all ended in a punch-up every week. Must've been the very early days of Charlton getting involved with the community as they got envolved (Pretty sure Jason Morgan was possibly just starting out). Between us all getting older, the league becoming a bit more official with the Club, and the constant fights with Kidd Place, it all fell apart in the end.
Another time, me and my friend were at a loose end, mooching around the park, when someone turned up at the Parkie's office with a chicken in a cat basket, asking if the Parkie could put it over the fence with the other chickens. The Parkie said no as it'd need looking at by a vet first, so I volunteered to take it home. Got some funny looks walking through Charlton holding a chicken (my friend named her Averstair because everyone was 'having a stare,' lol). But the funniest look was my mum's when she opened the front door to find me standing there with a Rhode Island Red in my hands.
We kept her for a while until the old man gave her to his friend who kept chickens. I was always bringing home injured birds (feathered ones) since lorries would hit them on the main road where we lived. I'd try to nurse them back to health with medium success. Good old memories.

What a shame - grew up near both Maryon Parks and they were an oasis for us kids - also the danger of getting into Coxs Mount, fantastic! Was told by a mate a bear had escaped a local circus and lived wild in the Mount - always cacked myself when climbing in there! (what a div I was).
