Early days but Takerufuji is looking like he'll be in contention.

    Wow.
Terunofuji will announce his RETIREMENT tomorrow morning.
Now that Kotozakura's blown his chance, Sumo Chiefs will be really hoping Hoshoryu wins the basho and earns promotion to Yokozuna.

It's been coming for a while, lots of pulls out and missed tournaments. Glad he was able to get a tenth Emperor's cup.

I'm a bit of a Terunofuji fan so it's a shame to see him forced to retire after fighting on so long. But time catches up with all of us eventually, and what a career he had.

Usually best not to make presumptions concerning people about whom you know precisely nothing.

    I'm sorry. You're right.

How long did you live there?

Not long enough if they're missing it!

Glad to see Takanoshō finally get a win. He seems to alternate bashos between being in the running to win it and looking very average.

Great Basho so unpredictable. I'm edging towards Hōshōryū and another Mongolian Yokozuna.

The rematch due to a judging error is a silly rule.

No worries. Sorry to get arsey.
4 years back in the 80s, then travelled there 2-3 times a year on business for the next 20 years.
    Love the place.

    Wow, what a day..
Wakatakakage v Takanosho and Midorifuji v Mitakeumi sensational bouts.
January often throws up a winner from left-field and this year may well follow that trend.
    Amazing stuff.
Meanwhile, looking good for Shishi to yo yo up again from Juryo. 8-1 and leading.

Kinbozan and Ura been my highlights so far. Wakatakakage also exciting. No idea what's happened to Kotozakura, looked so good in November

Ura is great, why did he put his dukes up yesterday?!

No idea about Kotozakura. I've noticed he'd changed his mawashi to a black one. Guess he's superstitious.

No spoilers from me after Day 12 but this is going to be one humdinger of a finale.
    Great stuff.

    Sensational finish in store.
day 14 sees Hoshoryu v Takerufuji, Kinbozan v Kirishima and Oho v Takanosho.
Pretty sure that means Kinbozan will likely fight Oho on day 15 as he’s fought the 3 Ozeki and Takerufuji already.
Kirishima’s also fought all 3 Ozeki I think so he’d probably face Takerufuji and Hoshoryu will probably face Kotozakura for the last bout of regular bouts.
    Paly Off anyone?

Kotozakura will have a Kadoban at the next Basho, who saw that coming?

I'd probably love it too if I could have a similar arrangement. When people ask me what it's like, I always say, "Great place for a holiday".

Oh yes. When you are completely in the system, have kids in school and work for Japanese companies, you realise how hard it is.

    Great place to visit, mind!

    Osaka.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of good stuff about living in Japan, but I just get a bit tired on seeing blanket positivity on social media. (A lot of which I suspect may even be state sponsored and bot driven.)
