I've said for a while this season is feeling like the season Bow took over from Karl Robinson. Started alright but playing some not great football, slump in the middle, before a resurgence (when Bow took over) to get us back in the mix and make the playoffs. I can see what you mean, to me this feels like the first year Bowyer got us in to the play-offs, where we had a skeleton of a team that showed flashes of ability but just lacking one or two in key areas, then obviously he added the next season and we seemed more steely. I hope i'm wrong though, what is beyond doubt however is that Jones has made some unpopular decision and to be completely honest has been proven right, this squad is miles ahead of where we were last season.cantersaddick said:

Nothing like it whatsoever. Bowyer had to make do for the rest of the season with the squad he inherited. Jones has picked this squad. Bowyer only had to make one simple change to start improving the team and that was to stop expecting one player to hold the line upfront on his own. Jones has, after some trial and error, made his changes and got a core team plus squad that can and does win games. Bowyer got a massive boost by THAT Pompey away game and the fan support that followed after that. TBF, I think Charlton punched above its weight on the back of that support to sneak into the play offs when the team wasn’t really ready for it. The current team/squad if and when it gets into the play offs is far better prepared. If there is one factor that still needs some work it’s the fan buy in and replicating the support Bowyer’s team had then. As a fanbase we are not quite there yet. FFS, we’ve still not got consensus on the replacement words for the line ‘and now we’ve got Lee Bowyer’ and so the ‘Allez, Allez’ song just sounds pathetic and unconvincing. We need to sort that out asap so that everyone can join in and mean it when we sing the Reds are going up.cantersaddick said:

A big difference between this squad and the Powell and Bowyer promotion squads is the lack of both a 20 goal talismanic striker and a high end (at this level) keeper.3

Sure there are differences and I don't disagree about those differences, fan feeling isn't the same as when Bow took over (although we did struggle to sell tickets for the home leg of the playoff semi) but there are significant similarities not least having ground to make up after a slump, the squad lacking depth and that little bit of quality to make them real promotion squads.letthegoodtimesroll said:
